Dansai 701 DVD player
Advantages: DVD/MP3/CDR playback which is good and its cheap
Disadvantages: looks a bit cheap but it does the job
...First of all I would like to state that the picture above is quite misleading as the Dansai 701 DVD/MP3/CDR player is much slimmer and stylish than the picture shown on the site here. I believe the picture shown is the first ever 701 model from Dansai and doesn't reflect subsequent upgrades over the years.
I have owned 3 DVD players in the last 10 years and all have been made by Dansai, and all have been the 701 models so I feel qualified to give my opinion on what I consider to be the best value for money DVD player on the market. My first purchase in 1998 was £40 at a time when most DVD players retailed in excess of £100 and since I have paid £35 and then £30 for the most recent. Each purchase has lasted and lasted playing DVDs without fault. The earliest model was passed onto a friend, the second onto my nephew and now the cheapest...

Dansai 1010? Can't be the YEAR it was made..?
Advantages: Cheap in comparison to most other DVD players; fits in with mod cons; plays almost anything
Disadvantages: support (or lack of it); not sure about if it could recover after a knock
...One of my latest expenditures on extravagant new technology was on, funnily enough, this Dansai DVD player. It caught my eye whilst I was curiously browsing through the new electronic goodies in my local Tesco Extra store, modestly priced at just under £70. Please note, however, that this was a special offer price and, although you may find this DVD player costing around the same price as I paid, DVD players have seriously decreased in value over the last few months and prices are continuing to fall today.
Buying
The DVD player came in a sturdy box with appropriate protection surrounding the actual player. As I bought it from Tesco Extra I just picked up the box and took it through the checkout – it was therefore very simple to buy. If you buy this DVD player from the Internet, however, please be very wary and ensure that your...

Dansai 952 Dvd player
Advantages: A very good cheap DVD player
Disadvantages: A bit to wide
...Firstly I have had to put this opinion in the 852 category as there isn't one for the 952, I thought I would point this out at the beginning. The Dansai 950 is a very practical cheap priced DVD player mine cost me £99.00, I have previously had more expensive machines which seem to behave like primadonas and break down at the drop of a hat,They are also very hard to hack for multi region, unlike the dansai I found a multi region hack very easily on the web and after pushing 4 buttons on the remote it was done (I now buy all my films from America) I have had this player for over a year and it is still going strong.
The 952 has all the goodies you expect from the more expensive players.
5:1 Dolby surround sound.
Scart socket.
S.video socket.
Optical line out socket,(to record digital sound to a minidisk recorder or Mp3 recorder).
It...

Dansai 1010 - cheap as chips!
Advantages: Very Cheap! Unlockable!
Disadvantages: Some poor quality picture
...Ok so very expensive chips but thats the best title i could come up with!
When I bought this product it was very cheap at the time £70 from Tescos. The main selling point for me was the price. However there is an extra bonus to be had because the dansai 1010 can be unlocked via the factory settings in your own home to turn it into a multi-region DVD player making the price of the DVD player even better for what you get for the money!
APPERANCE
A nice cool silver colour (noticing a trend in the products that I buy-there all silver!) and the buttons are ergonomically designed to fit in just right to the front of the player. There are all the basic buttons on the front such as play stop etc. but you will need the remote to operate the other functions (see features). The unit is quite big and chunky compared to some of the players...

Dansai 955 Opinion
Advantages: MultiRegion, plays all formats of CD/DVD
Disadvantages: Minor glitches on some DVD's and certain CDR media
...As someone who travels a lot to other countries, I purchase a lot of DVD's from overseas. This saves me a lot of money for starters and also allows me to own the film prior to UK release.
Prior to owning one of these players, I have had numerous others including those which had been 'chipped'. With a hardware chipped player, certain film studios decided to use a seperate encryption process which would mean that the DVD would not play on machines that had said 'chips' installed. A classic example of this is the Region 1 version of "A Knights Tale".
I purchased a Dansai DVD1010 prior to this one, and although it had all the same functions as the 955, it lacked analogue 5:1 output (which I already owned a 5:1 analogue speaker setup). So I returned the DVD1010 to Tesco & exchanged it for the 955.
The 955 is of a much higher build...

Decent DVD player for under 100 pound
Advantages: Cheap, reliable
Disadvantages: Not a brand name
...If your looking for a cheap, budget type DVD player, or just want to get in on the DVD market, then I might have got the answer for you. The Dansai DVD player is a player that seems to have been made specifically for Tesco stores up and down the country. I had never heard of Dansai, but my mate had, which was part of the reason I chose the player.
I couldn’t really justify spending over £200 on a DVD player when I didn’t have any DVD movies in my video collection, however, I wanted to get on the bandwagon and join the DVD era having watched quite a few DVD’s on other peoples players. So I went searching, hoping to spend below £130. I found the Dansai player for £99 in Tesco’s in Newton Abbot, Devon. I didn’t buy it there and then, I went looking, but couldn’t find anything to match this price...

Excellent for the price.
Advantages: Very good value for price and functions, Buttons on remote glows in dark!
Disadvantages: Most controls/function must use remote, which is fine unless you break/lose your remote.
...remote press "setup" to finish hack
I have tested this on mine on region 1 and 4, which works fine, so I'm assuming region 3 will work. Also if you unplug to move you shouldn't have to repeat the above. So, now it's an even better dvd player with all regions at that price!
Plays everything ive chucked at it, svcds ive made, vcds ive made,on all brands and unbranded media, dvdrs ive made, and imports from malaysia. I only bought it because it was cheap, but this is a great DVD player. If your looking for a good cheap player but don't want to pay a fortune (for 5.1.) then i would highly recommend the Dansai DVD955.
I only have one gripe about this player. My remote only works when pointed directly at player. But my friend has the same player and says his doesn't have this problem. So maybe this is an individual case.
I have heard...

A good value DVD player
Advantages: Cheap, lots of features, easy to make multi-region
Disadvantages: Few
...After Christmas I found myself with £100 to spend which I risked on Tesco's "own brand" Dansai DVD player, the Dansai 852. According to the newsgroups these have sold out very quickly in some stores but I had no problem sourcing one in my local Tesco.
The player is silver and good looking. It would not be out of place amongst much more expensive hardware. It has the added benefit of a hidden menu, only four presses on the front panel to access which allows the machine to made multi-region, and believe it or not, to turn off the copy protection, allowing you to make video copies of DVDs.
It will also play MP3 files and the usual repertoire of CDs, audio VCD etc. Audio quality is very good; in blind tests I could tell it apart from a mch more expensive Arcam CD player, but only just.
The remote is a bit finecky and its not...

FIVE STARS TO YOU TESCO
Advantages: good aftercare service and care for customers prompt
Disadvantages: none
...Tesco
~~~~~
It is well worth visiting you local supermarket these days for electrical goods to see what is on offer. They do sell both own branded and popular make products as very good prices compared to other electrical retailers.
We especially wanted to congratulate Tesco?s for their excellent after sales service we received recently??
Excellent Customer Service deserves 5 star rating.
****************************************
We purchased a Dansai DVD 9/4/02 at £99.49 from Tesco local store.
Reasons for purchase:-
1) Recommended by a relative
2) Wanted to up date our existing DVD
3) The colour came in a silver finish which matched out TV
4) This DVD player was able to play multi region DVD?s and not all players will
(i.e. if you purchase an imported DVD for example from cdwow.com they will play on this machine...
