In the book he describes how different empires can use different strategums to retain power, and which are the most affective. "There'll be no morning for us" - Hopefully not Helen.

Advantages: Christopher Lee, great imagery
Disadvantages: Lots of boring dialogue

DVD The DVD had an hour long documentary called The Changing Faces of Christopher Lee which involves Christopher Lee sitting in his living room talking about himself and his films. He seems to have a prop from each one he talks about and has a story to tell about each. He confirms that in Prince of Darkness he refused to talk because the lines were terrible and also shows us some behind the scenes footage taken during the making of that film. He also gives us a demonstration of sword fighting when talking about the musketeer films and how to draw a gun when talking about his westerns. He even still has a piece of the actual wickerman from The Wickerman . It?s a very good documentary with lots of information...

Advantages: wasted an hour when i was hungover
Disadvantages: a waste of an hour i could have been doing something else

I have tried various brands from the cheapest to the most expensive, but I always stick with Princes Corned Beef nowadays as it is the best I have found by far. ~The Product~ Princes corned beef is the tastiest corned beef on the market in my opinion. It is sold as a block, not sliced so you can slice it as thick as you need to yourself. The corned beef is tinned and comes complete with a key which opens the tin from the bottom. The Prince Of Tides : A glimpse into a tortured childhood

Advantages: Very well acted, absorbing, intense, shocking in parts
Disadvantages: A little mawkish at the end

I watched this film on the recommendation of a friend, and I was a little apprehensive because my friend's and my own tastes in films, music etc. doesn't always coincide, but when she told me this was about delving into the history of a deeply dysfunctional family, I decided to give it a watch - at the time I was going through some counselling myself, dealing with a few of my own childhood issues, and I thought it may be something I could perhaps identify with. ...John Carpenter's 1987 horror outing 'Prince of Darkness' crept out quietly onto DVD much like it slipped apologetically into cinemas on its original release. Certainly the last work of any great quality from the once highly regarded director who these days seems entirely unsure of how to put together a decent film. ...I love horror movies, I live horror movies and I never, never spook. Its been like that for years, for as long as I can remember. However back in 1988 two horror movies sent a shiver down my spine and I suspect that they made me skip a heartbeat; one of these movies was Italian horror shocker Alien Terror, the other John Carpenter's Prince Of Darkness. John Carpenter has always been on the top of the wave when it comes to trends; when Hollywood played with Westerns, Carpenter took the western genre to a modern time, and into New York ghetto's. The Dark Place

Advantages: PI character, Belfast setting, a cast of potentially interesting characters
Disadvantages: Characters not really developed enough

...mostly felt quite detached from the story. Millar makes an effort to establish his detective as a sympathetic character ? a dark past, a father, an ex-wife and teenage daughter, a current romantic interest, thwarted literary ambitions, a sense of humour and regular discomfort from his piles ? but he stays a fictional character. Millar uses a lot of quotations from other literary works, Irish, American and English, 16th and 20th century, but for me the references to Raymond Chandler only made me feel disappointed that Karl Kane isn't really Belfast's answer to Philip Marlowe. The most emotionally moving scenes in the book involved Karl and his father, and these are not central to the main story. I would probably try another book in this series if I came across one, but wouldn't actively seek one out. I am more tempted by the author...

Review of The Dark Place - Sam Millar

The Dark Knight returns

Advantages: Still to the high standards of the first film
Disadvantages: 152 minutes in length!

...Gordon off to a tee. Gordon as a character has a destiny and I hope that in the following films that this plays out to entirety. Oldman's performance in The Dark Knight is spot on. The saddest part of the cast is the late Heath Ledger; we all know that Ledger passed way earlier this year. His input into this film is staggering. His take on The Joker is what the cinema just hasn't seen for years and I think that it is this film that Ledger will be remembered for as he effectively grounds the character and totally rebuilds him into a totally different type of villain that we haven't seen before in this genre of film. His Joker has all the trademarks of the comic character in appearance such as the green hair and build, but what Ledger has done is to take his attitude towards life and increase it by 200% so that the character in the film has...
