Darlington
Advantages: great for all the family
Disadvantages: non
...I live in Darlington so i thought i would write a review about this town for anyone planning a visit here. I hope this helps you make up your mind.
Firstly Darlington is mainly famous Railway, the Darlington to Stockton line which was the first railway line to be built. There is a nice railway museum in Darlington which holds different exhibitions. The next exhibition to be held at the museum is A Day Out With Thomas which is great for the kids. There is rides on Thomas the tank engine train, face painting, balloon sculpting, art and craft activities, food stalls, craft stalls, live music and many more things for the whole family to enjoy. The price to enjoy this is family - £35, adults - 8, chldren - 7, and under 2's are free. This great weekend is on the 7th and 8th of July from 10am till 5pm.
For more information on this museum...

Hotel Bannatyne, Darlington,
Advantages: Very reasonable price, well located for town centre
Disadvantages: Only the odd little thing that didn't quite match the image they want to present
...This is a 60 room hotel close to Darlington Town Centre and owned by Duncan Bannatyne - one of the Dragons from the "Dragon's Den" TV Show. It is based on a 1820's house with recent, tasteful extensions. On arrival my first impression was a bit of a thumbs down as car parking was congested but I managed after a couple of minutes. Things improved from there; you ring the front door bell in a gracious period entrance and a person comes and opens it (as opposed to a squawking voice saying "push the door"!).
Reception is in a room off the hall and is a desk on the corner of a room with soft chairs and newspaper. The staff have clearly been given all the right sort of training to make the right noises and stay calm when services required are rattled off - ironing board, paper, internet connections (yes to all). I was slightly surprised to...

Aston Hotel, Darlington
Advantages: Large Rooms, Power Showers, Free Wifi...etc
Disadvantages: None!
...Before I start this review I would like to point out that this hotel is no longer called ?The Sleep Inn?. It has (I?m assuming) changed hands and is now called ?The Aston Hotel?.
I have stayed at this hotel on many occasions, my most recent trip there was at the beginning of May 2007, where I stayed for 4 nights.
Every time I return to this hotel the standard never slips. I searched for a long time trying to find a cheaper hotel/deal in the same area, and this was consistently the cheapest for what you get.
The Location: ?The hotel is two minutes drive from the A1(M), ten minutes from Darlington Station on the East Coast main line and 15 minutes from Durham Tees Valley International airport. Middlesbrough, Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle and Gateshead are within 40 minutes by road, and York within an hour?
The hotel is right...

Darlington, The New Season
Advantages: Exciting players - too good for their division
Disadvantages: Still in the 3rd Div
...Things are looking up this season. Last season George "Safecracker" Reynolds said that he didnt need to spend money on players !!! How wrong he was proved.......
This season has seen several new players come to the club, the highest profile player being Neil Maddison - Thank you God for making him a Darlo fan ;)
The team are playing with a new found spirit reminiscent of the days of Brian Little, and we have already had the best result of the season - teaching the Poolies how to play the game ;)
With the advent of a new era at Darlington, I feel it is only right that Feethams is relagated to reserve team pitch next year - The new Stadium looks fantastic - when it is finally up and running it will definitely rival 1st Div clubs.
Things are looking up for Gary Bennett and the boys - Keep it going lads.
Gary Bennett has been...

Narrow dog to Carcassonne by Terry Darlington
Advantages: A great story, very well told
Disadvantages: It ended!
...This is the tale of Jim, who is a whippet. And his two companions (the humans who mistakenly believe that they own him) Terry and Monica Darlington. And their "brave" decision, on retiring, to take a canal narrowboat the Phyllis May, all the way from Staffordshire to Carcassonne in Southern France.
Everyone told them that they were mad, or brave, or stupid or brave in a madly, stupid way. The upshot of this advice was that they were more intent on making the trip.
Jim has bad habits. The kind of bad habits that endear dogs to people who are not their owners. His habit of begging in pubs is told by Terry in a fashion that is both highly amusing and original in tone.
Terry's sense of humour that shines through the telling of this tale has brought a unique voice to the fore of British writing and it is to be hoped that Terry will...

Darlington's new stadium
Advantages: .
Disadvantages: .
...I recently drove past the new stadium for Darlington Football Club, to be apparently named 'The George Reynolds stadium' after our illustrious leader and benefactor.
It is a few weeks since I last saw it and it has come on in leaps and bounds. The steelwork is up, work has started on the main entrance, boxes and lifts and there is even a vistor centre and club shop at the site to see how things are going.
GR has been on a spending spree in London at a recent 'Stadium equipment fair' (No, I didn't know these things existed either). He managed to spend a few million pounds on fixtures and fittings, so that probably means £1,999,000 on his private suite and a grand on the rest of the site. He is planning to stay at the ground after matches, although this may have more to do with the fact that he has to get out of the area without being...

Reema- Contemporary Indian restaurant Darlington
Advantages: Upmarket Indian Restaurant in Darlington
Disadvantages: Service not great
...very substantial indeed. Feelign already rather full, we moved on to the main course when I had chicken malayan which was creamy and very very mild, ideal for anyone not used to spicy food, and my fiancé had chicken tikka masala which was delicious. we were far to full after that for dessert!
Sadly the service did not really improve throughout the meal, one waiter in particular was quite surly and another one did not bring us the extra drinks we asked for. However the restaurant was very busy at the time as there was a large party in, so we have decided to visit there gain soon when it may be quiter in the hope the service will be better.
In summary: Delicious indian food, but service needs improving.
Location: Restaurant is on Coniscliffe Road, which is in the 'nicer' part of Darlington
Atmosphere: Very noisy due to the large...

Darlington good for everything except football
Advantages: good choice of shopping
Disadvantages: looks dull when approaching the town
...I live in the North East and visit Darlington from time to time whilst on my travels.I find it a very pleasant place to shop and I have picked up many bargains there.
Near the train station there is a very good branch of JJB sports . I have picked up Mitre girly trainers for a fiver brand new and other such bargains their over the years .
Then moving into the town centre their is a fine market offering a wide range of essentials at a good price.
The High street has all the big names you 'd want Currys , Argos ,Woolworths and such .
There are also indoor shopping centres to go in when the weather is bad.
All this adds up to a very impressive shopping town .
The pubs and nightlife I can't comment on but I have heard reports that it is pretty good.
The place is easy to get to by rail being on the main London to Scotland route and is...

The sky's the limit
Advantages: Good financial backing
Disadvantages: The Pitch is not conducive to their passing game
...Darlington were unlucky last season finishing fourth in the league, narrowly missing promotion, and then losing out in the play-off final at Wembley after dominating most of the game. Despite the disappointments of last season ater having played by far the best football in the division things are looking very good for the Quakers. The starting of the new development of a new football ground and the football academy certainly make the Quakers the envied club of the Division. They start this season as preseason favourites and who could argue that they won't do it this time. The backing of the multi millionaire George Reynolds is a major plus for the quakers. He has the drive and the ambition to take this club into the First Division and even the Premiership. Thus far he has yet to open his cheque on new signings but this is only...
