Darren Shan - Lord Loss

Advantages: Very easy to read and to get into. very humouress along with gripping.
Disadvantages: you really only get it in its full glory if the sequels are read.

The Demonata is the second series that Shan has written coming after the widely successful Saga of Darren Shan (aptly named I guess). ?Lord Loss? was released June 6th 2005 within the UK. Darren Shan is the number one best seller of teenage horror but I would really like to point out that he is often refered to as a childrens auther but a lot of the material in this book begs to differ and is vey obviously not for the very young but ill go into that more later. The book itself is easily readable with large font and is set out in a very easy to follow way, written in first person it folllows the unfortunate events that surround a teenage boy ?Grubbs Grady?. ...After a very stressful few years for Darren he is finally back with the most amazing album ever written. If you are to buy any album this year this has to be it. Darkness and light is the theme of this album. Which if you are a big Darren Hayes fan, which i am you will know that this is about his life over the past few years. ...I remember remarking, when reveiwing Lord Loss (the first in the Demonata series) that I struggled to believe anything substantial could evolve from it. On reflection i realise just how wrong i was. Those who have not read Dark Calling's predecessors, it will be hard to go into the plot without delving into too much detail. I discovered Darren Shan's works when I was quite young, and now being seventeen, I still proudly call my self a Shan fan. Those that have followed the stories thus far would be aware of the plot, but for those unsure in brief the series is told from the points of view of three characters, in the first person narrative. ...Lord Loss is the first book in Darren Shan's new series called the Demonata. Having enjoyed Darren's previous books in this genre I could not wait for him to begin this new series. The Saga of Darren Shan was written from his own perspective and although this book is written in the first person it is Grubbs Grady who's the main character here. Lord Loss starts off with Grubbs in a normal family situation winding up his sister like all teenage boys do. ...After reading all of the Darren shan vampire saga i was expecting another thrilling read. This i was granted, however Lord Loss is similar to the first of the vampire series. It starts a magnificent line of stories, (the demonata) which i would recommend to anyone. The series is full of magic and a great plot, the first person way of writing really makes it exciting, the sort of read that you'll want to finish in the first sitting, in the case of Lord Loss that is an easy task. It is not a long book, nor is it hard to read. you can finish in a good few hours. Not a vast amount actually occurs in this book, but enough to keep you hooked and looking forwards to the next installments. To being with, I have always been a fan of Darren Shan's books, first reading his vampire saga.This book, as with all in the Demonata series, is brilliantly written so that you read it at a constant pace.Just as you think, "Oh, I think that'll do for now", the book drags you back in.I read it within 3 hours (I do wish it was longer, however!). It begins directly where the last one left off, the problem of the impending fate of of the whole universe, and Dervish near to death. I cannot go into the plot detail's too much, as I do not want to spoil the book for you... The book offer's a brilliant ending - tying up all loose ends, which will leave most avid fans satisfied. There are some minor moans, hence the 4 stars.I feel Darren Shan lowers his writing potential too much for the younger reader.The books, as advertised...

...I bought this book after I first saw Darren Shan at the Edinburgh book festival and since then I've been hooked. I now own all the Demonata and half of the Darren Shan Saga. But back to the book in question. The Demonata is Darren Shans second series and Lord Loss is the first book in the series. I quite like this book. It has a simple plot, easy reading style with quite a bit of graphic horror. It is probably for readers that like to read unchallenging books as it makes for easy reading. The black hard back cover make the whole book feel a little bit creepy. I feel that with this book it is easy to dip in and out of it. Reading litttle bits at a time is easy. It is probably best for 9 - 14 year olds and anything older than that could find it boring. The print is set out in a way that the actual text is very visable unlike...
