Dassia, Corfu
Advantages: Nice Quiet Resort, Very Friendly Locals
Disadvantages: Not much in the way of Kids Attractions.
...The Resort
Dassia is located at the Northern end of the Greek Island of Corfu. The resort is about 1 mile long, through which travels a very busy main road. All the bars, tavernas, restaurants and shops etc are fronting this main road, most of them being located to the right hand side of the road, heading north.
Most of the accommodation is self catering studios and apartments, most of which have a pool, very few have a bar and reception.
There are three big hotels: The Corfu Chandris, The Dassia Chandis and the Magna Grecia.
The Beach
To the left hand side of the road, heading north you will find several dirt tracks, these all lead down to the beach. These dirt tracks are very hard to travel when you are attempting to push a pram, so I presume the same would apply for those accompanying wheelchair users and those who...

Corfu Chandris Hotel, Dassia Corfu
Advantages: wonderful hotel
Disadvantages: drinks cheaper at pubs over the road.
...My husband and I went to this 4* thomson platinum hotel last October for our anniversary and we loved it.
There are 2 sister hotels next door to each other and have wonderful panoramic views from the restaurants, you can use the facilities of both hotels but I would say The Dassia Chandris caters more for the children.
We stayed in the Corfu Chandris it also as apartments and bungalows set in well manicured grounds, the other hotel is the Dassia Chandris both set on the beach and views are beautiful!!
The weather was glorious apart from one day rain.
Bedrooms were large and airy with lovely 6ft size bed,tv,lounge area, mini-fridge(though drinks were expensive from here and the bar).
Plus point was the safe was free.
Bathroom wasn't that big but had all the usual, shower over the bath, vainty unit, tiolet and all...

Telemachos Hotel, Dassia, Corfu
Advantages: Quiet ( usually!)
Disadvantages: Some people may find the (small)hills a chore/problem
...a flat bit, then a steep bit at the hotel end. I am athsmatic and overweight, but I coped. It's not well lit, so if you go out at night, take a torch.
10.The resort. Dassia itself has a very pretty beach, but lots of the shops and bars were closed. Whether this was because it was near the end of the season, I don't know. The best gift shop was almost opposite the bottom of the Telemachos hill to the left - lots of belts outside. And Parasol Bar is really good - we managed to get to see some English football in there and the owner was great when I started calling the ref. of the game we were watching, some less than charming names!
All in all, we had a great 2 weeks, Too many people are and were prepared to moan about this place - we were bothered by the internet reviews - but we were pleasantly surprised. One couple we met even moaned about...

Magical Island
Advantages: peaceful to relax in the sun
Disadvantages: Dassia is based on a busy road
...I felt I had to comment on the Island of Corfu after returing from amazing holiday, I decided to choose Corfu as I have travelled around Greece and been to most of the Islands but id never been to Corfu. When arriving we were taken to our hotel and I have to say I have never seen such a amazing hotel. We stayed in the Corfu Chandris in a little town of Dassia. The hotel was spledid with carpeted floors in the bedroom, which was a totally new experience. the meals were amazing. I would definatley recommend the Corfu Chandris to anyone whose up for a relaxing holiday in a amzing place.
The resort of dassia itself was a little quiet to what ive experienced before however it was the best holiday ive been on in along time. Dassia is based on one strech of road with plenty of shops and restaurants, and a club for the more lively. The bus...

H IS FOR HONEYMOON - GETTING MARRIED OCTOBER!
Advantages: nice quite time after wedding
Disadvantages: longish flight, its half-temr week, aagh!!!!!
...there!
We have had to request a room with a double bed as we are on honeymoon. You know what these hotel rooms are like, always twin beds. Back to nudge-nudge, wink-wink now I know!
The only slight downside of the holiday is that it is half-term week on 24 October so we have been advised that the first week could be very busy, but should calm down again in the second week.
This is only the 3rd sunshine holiday that I have been on, going to Dassia, Corfu for 2 weeks in 1990 and Portinax, Ibiza for 1 week in 1999. It is the first time that hubby to be has been abroad so he is in for a shock.
He is already shocked as I have spent loads of money on clothes as I had nothing suitable for a beach holiday as we usually go to Cornwall or Scotland in the rain!!
Anyway, this is just a bit of rambling on about my forthcoming honeymoon...

Kosmar Money Doesn't Grow On Trees
Advantages: Easy to navigate website, Great Customer Service in resort
Disadvantages: They only go to Greece
...details and nightlife etc. There is a map of each resort
Following the resort description are the accommodation choices. Each accommodation on offer has a detailed description, including the board type, the room sizes on offer and whether there is a pool, bar, reception etc; there is also a map reference. This refers to the map as described above
For each accommodation, there is a photograph and a price box, which we found very user friendly.
At the back of the brochure is a section giving all the flight times and supplements from the various airports in the UK.
***The Website***
We decided that Dassia sounded like a nice place (See separate review) and from the brochure we selected two choices of accommodation, the Christina Apartments being the first choice, the Artemis being the second choice.
Now rather than going back...

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday
Advantages: Spending time with my little girl
Disadvantages: Only 1 day more before work starts again
...arrives to go food shopping, as she does every Saturday and after packing half of the house in the changing bag, off we go to Morrison?s.
1.20pm
Get to Morrison?s and first stop is the café. I have a very nice Cheeseburger and not so nice chips my mum has a Hot Beef roll and Evie happily munches on a banana.
Then proceed to walk around Morrison?s, buying things I don?t really need, but buy simply because they are on special offer. Spend ages choosing a birthday card for MIL, and then the bit I hate. Unloading the trolley to load it all to unload it again in the car, it irritates me.
3.00pm
Arrive home and once again unload the shopping and out it all away. Have a quick brew and another ciggy and whilst David watches Evie, Spend half an hour on the internet with my mum looking at websites showing Dassia in Corfu where we all...

FROLICS ON CORFU
Advantages: see opinion
Disadvantages: see opinion
...born.
We also visited a large and beautiful house which my memory is calling The Achillien Palace, but I'm not utterly convinced of that. It was set in gorgeous gardens, with loads of statues to Achilles, but the house wasn't open during the day. At night it was a different matter as it was operating as a Casino, but we never visited it then.
Dassia was another beach resort close to Barbati, but it was much more upmarket and very quiet, and for some reason we didn't like it enough to go back for another visit.
We did visit Benitses, but only for a brief time. A brief, brief, brief, time. We parked up by a splendid looking roman harbour wall remains, took one breath, and swiftly got back in again. The smell was appalling. I don't know whether this was commonplace or what, but it was overpoweringly sulphurous, and we got out of there...

Kalami - a jewel in the Ionion Sea
Advantages: Beautiful and relaxing
Disadvantages: Not for people who want an active night life.
...seemed to be the only scenery in sight. The hour long journey to our destination soon left behind the urban outskirts and we found ourselves on a coastal road travelling to the North East of the island.Things suddenly looked very different!!
The sun shone down on to the incredible blue sea as we travelled along the main coastal road . We soon came to Dassia with its shops, café bars and long strip of pebbly beach .The road then left the coast and travelled high in to the mountains passing lots of little grottos where offerings were left along the way.
Now we were looking down to the incredible coastline below us, passing places like Barbatti and Nissaki. After some hair raising moments on the bends of the mountain road are coach came to a stop, and the passengers for Kalami had to descend.
Out of the coach we looked down...

A greek nightmare with a bit of sex on the beach!
Advantages: urm....not many, it's remote and clean!
Disadvantages: read on for there are too many to list here!
...guest but she was rude and unhelpful.
On an upside the pool was lovely and there was a separate shallow pool for children which was the only child friendly aspect to the hotel.
The town of Dassia was basic but Ok, there are plenty of tavernas /restaurants/supermarkets and gift shops. The local tavernas /restaurants were reasonably priced for food about 4 euros for a full English breakfast or 2 euros for a toasted sandwich with salad though drinks were quite expensive everywhere, about 9 euros for 2 drinks.
The walk to the beach was about 15-20 minutes which on a hot day is extremely tiring and then you have to walk up the hill back to the hotel. It's worth a visit to the beach if just to sunbathe though it's a pebble beach not a sandy one. Lots of water sports are on offer but I found them to be over priced. I took my son out...
