...I am definately not a techno type of person but can certainly recommend this data cable. It is a useful, functional piece of equipment which allows you to link your Sony camcorder to any kind of PC. The main thing I would say is, that if you find yourself in need of this cable then the best thing to do is to shop around. There are bargains to be had and quite big differences in the prices charged for it. Amazon is quite a good place to look, as not only do you get an Amazon price but there are other offers to be found there for new cables too. When I was looking the best deal available was £7.99 (plus shipping). Or of course you could order from Amazon when you are buying other items and then be eligible for free shipping if you spend £15. Disadvantages: Confusing at times

...I got my data cable to add ringtones, logos and unlock it. You know, I actually never did any of these. I got bored of it after about 10 minutes. You have to fid somewhere decent to get the rigtone/logos from, then discover you have to pay somehow alot of the time. Then there's the trying to connect it to your phone. Don't buy this without instructions! You need to remove the back of the phone, and insert it down the side of the SIM, and hope it's in right. the cable has 6 little pins that touch 6 metal bits , and they have to touch, usually with you pushing dow o the cable to keep them touching! In fact, you're probably better off just buying the ringtones out the back of Hello Magazine or something, it's so confusing. I must have spent a good couple of hours trying to find some program that works to unlock. They all failed...

An expensive cable but well worth it.

Advantages: Great pictures and you can connect it to a number of devices.
Disadvantages: It is expensive and the cable is quite short.

...The Sony male VMC 15HD Video / Audio cable is very cheap for the thing it does which is transfer images. This cable is the future of HD TV I paid £25.00 for this cable. The UK Sony website sells it at £29.00 but there are plenty of other suppliers out there. This is a great piece of kit for transferring pictures from HD DVD players to HD TVs and still leaves the pictures with a very high picture quality you on the screen with its high rate data transfer "which means it loses very little detail." Sony states Gold-plated terminals for much improved signal transmission. This cable has gold plated connectors "The connectors are the gold bits at either end of the cable that go into the two devices e.g. TV to DVD. ...The 3210 has a data connection port built in to the circut board that allows you to connect the phone to a PC. The data cables allow you to unlock your phone with unlocking software to use different network's SIM cards in a phone locked to a particular service provider. Unlocking with a data cable is now not neccesary as there are websites that provide the unlocking codes for free, calculated from the phone's IMEI number and the network code. The cables are still useful as they allow you to activate features hidden in some models, such as the hidden games; react and logic, plus you can activate the line 2 facility and enable the vibrate function, with the Nokia Profile programme. To allow your phone to vibrate you still have to fit a vibra motor. The cable also allows you to download operator logos, picture messages and ringtones...

...To transfer files such as images, music, games, applications and more between your nokia phone and a PC you will need a connection between the two. The best ways to do this are through bluetooth, infared or using this data cable. Using this data cable i have put music onto my phone, backed up images onto the psp and much more. Also unless you have a PC or laptop with built in compatable bluetooth or infared the cable is the cheapest method to make a connection with the PC and phone. The data cable works with nokia PC suite and the drivers are included in the PC suite if you cant find them. The downside to this cable is that even though it is for nokia phones it is not for all nokia phones. For example the 6600 phone is not compatible. For this reason you should check Nokia's website for information unless you know you phone works...

Worth it?

Advantages: Many Capabilites (with alternative software)

...I bought a DCU-11 off eBay a few weeks ago. I can safely say I'm not happy! Why? Well, the cable has huge compatibility issues and I seem to be no the only one having problems with it! The cable itself is compatible with all Windows operating systems from 98 upwards including XP and 2003, however the software supplied, and the most recent software on the Sony Ericsson site are both outdated and at the moment do not support Windows XP Service Pack 2. This seems to be a problem, and I cannot find a fix for this at the moment. There are 3rd parties providing better software though, that is compatible with the cable provided the correct drivers are installed. These do not require the Sony Ericsson synchronization software. The best software for the phone I have found are MOBILedit! and floAt's Mobile Agent. These are compatible...
