...Of course, it's the wonderful 'Dave'...the artist formerly known as UKTV G2. Not exactly the most exciting of sounding television channels, so they glamourised it...by called it 'Dave'...because everyone knows a Dave. The concept of the channel is simply a station airing predominantly repeats of entertainment and comedy shows. It doesn't air 24-hours a day, instead it tends to broadcast until approximately 3am each night, and then restarts at 7am, with a bit of mind-boggling Teleshopping thrown in there for good measure. But what does it show? Well during the day it plays repeats of entertainment shows such as Top Gear, Ray Mear's Extreme Survival, Trawlermen, Traffic Cops and Fifth Gear; all seemingly quite 'manly' shows aimed at blokes called 'Dave' presumably... As the day's schedule moves on it tends to focus...

...monthly fee is £12.99 ? a bargain by the sounds of it? The web site is easy enough to navigate around once you have found your bearings, and the selection of films is great. The company recommend you have at least ten films on your list, which is not hard to choose from the choice available. I do worry a bit about the posting of the films and them getting lost, but the company are understanding in this worry and inform you that they will not charge and send out a new film if they get lost in the post. If you are going away or have a major bill to pay you can freeze your membership for up to 60 days: This is especially handy if you are going on holiday Overall I would recommend DVDs 365 as they are reliable, offer a good choice and a good selection of packages. Dave's Dystopia

Advantages: Inventive, ambitious, some fantastic ideas and characters.
Disadvantages: Difficult writing style to get into, loses its way badly towards the end.

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. ...If it wasn't for the authorities, Dave Pelzer wouldn't be here today, he would have been killed at the hands of his mother. When Dave was 12 he managed to get out with the help of the police and his teachers, but left behind his four brothers, one of whom suffered his mother's raff. Dave was placed in foster homes up until he was 18 when he became a US Army officer. His first book a child called it was on the US best seller for 6 years and his other books were on for nearlly as many as that. I haven't read a child called it in over a year, but it still chills me to this day to remember it. Advantages: Laugh out loud funny in places, well written

Dave Pelzer - A very brave man

...When I first read this book I couldnt put it down...Dave Pelzer tells his story as a child growing up and how his mother abused him. He leaves nothing out and tells you exactly how it was for him and I honestly feel that he must be an extremely brave man to go through it all again while writing this book and even more extraordinary is that he holds no resentment towards his mother. The book starts in a way you wouldnt expect for the subject it is going to cover. Instead you find Dave Pelzers early life was actually very happy and that his mother and father and him and his brothers lived a normal and happy life. This makes what happens even worse as you find yourself thinking if his mother loved him once why did it all change? Whats even more heartbreaking is that it was only Dave Pelzer who was abused his brothers escaped it...
