Paul Mitchell, an overview
Advantages: Environmental friendly, good values, products not tested on animals
Disadvantages: Results not satisfactory, not a good outcome
...At one of my trips at the saloon, I was recommended some products from Paul Mitchell for my daughter, who has a frizzy and curly hair which seems to have gone in a very bad shape over the last year.
I have to admit that up until this point I have never heard of this brand, so I have decided to give it a try and see if it will help getting my little daughter?s hair back in shape. Since I normally do not buy products I don?t know I have looked up on the internet to see what information I could find about Paul Mitchell products, even if it was a bit late by this point.
Who is Paul Mitchell?
Paul Mitchell was a hairdresser who, together with John Paul DeJoria, decided in 1980 to create a brand designed especially for hair care professionals. The company wasn't a big success in the beginning and they struggled not to...

David Cook
Advantages: Current American Idol winner, a musician
Disadvantages: None
...This...... is the current American Idol Winner.
David Cook is the American Idol that nearly never was. He actually was not initially going to try out for the television talent show, he was at the auditions to support his brother but, after some pushing from his brother, decided to audition too. A good decision, because he became the winner of the seventh season of American Idol in 2008.
David Cook is classified as a Rock, singer-songwriter. His sound is definitely very rocky, but in my opinion quite soft rock. He has a very deep, raspy voice that lends itself very well to this type of music. What I really like about him is that he can actually play an instrument, unlike a lot of the new pop stars out there today who are just manufactured. He plays the guitar and actually used it quite a lot when he was performing on Idol. If you look...

Paul Mitchell - Great Products, Great Ethos
Advantages: Products smell absolutely divine and are great for your hair
Disadvantages: Can be expensive so save for a treat
...I think we all have certain products or ranges of products that we seem to rate very highly. Some of mine include - Heinz, Cadburys, Loreal, Dior, and Lancome.
Don't get me wrong I also love own brand products and am in no way a label snob. Basically if I like something I buy it no matter what the label but there are certain things I must admit I do prefer to others.
For those that know me you will already be aware I adore my health & beauty items and am always trying out new stuff. I must've tried hundreds or haircare products over the years but one brand I always trust and seem to like is Paul Mitchell.
Paul Mitchell was set up 26 years ago by two friends who had a vision of founding a company by hairdressers for hairdressers one that would provide tools of success for hair care professionals, their salons, and the entire...

Its hard to map out!
Advantages: Epic in scope, a section for everyone, brilliantly written.
Disadvantages: Segmented, fractured style. Not all sections will appeal. Heavy read.
..."Cloud Atlas" by David Mitchell was nominated for the Booker Prize; received rave reviews and has been touted as one of the greatest reads of all time. As such I delayed reading it for many months. After all, I was bound to be disappointed. "Cloud Atlas" is a novel told in six parts. Telling the tale of six radically different, yet undoubtedly linked lives it is a disjointed mish mash of a book. Rather than a novel this book reads like a collection of short stories combined by a loose connection and this is its strength and ultimately its weakness.
Covering six lives in vastly different times and places is daring, unique and refreshing as it moves away from the writer's obsession with structure, chapters and linearity. Instead Mitchell offers the reader a variety of writing styles as each of the six sections are told from different...

"The hardest of all worlds to make real.."
Advantages: Wonderful use of words, intriguing style and really drew me in.
Disadvantages: A bit odd and disjointed in places.
...I am always pleased when a book is recommended to me by a friend. Often people think that, because I work in a library, I have mysteriously read every book in the world. Therefore, they expect me to tell them about titles and which authors to read. This time I am happy to indirectly claim all the praise and pass on Cloud Atlas, by David Mitchell, to you.
~~~THE PLOT.
This is actually quite difficult to summarize, because Cloud Atlas is a series of six stories. These stories are separate but also linked ~ sounds weird, but it works because the individual tales overlap and interlink. The narrative takes us through the ages and around the world, spanning both the past and the distant future.
Through the years we see a lawyer crossing the Pacific Ocean in 1850, a young British composer in the 1930s who writes the Cloud Atlas...
Bold Book
Advantages: an ambitious book
Disadvantages: too ambitious
...Browsing through amazon I chanced upon the novel ´Cloud Atlas´ by David Mitchell, a British author (born in Southport in 1969) hitherto unknown to me, the word ´bizarre´ in one of the critiques made me order it although the number of pages was not given as it usually is. Shock, horror!, when the book arrived, 529 pages in small print!
Without any introduction I find myself reading ´The Pacific Journal of Adam Ewing´, an ´American Notary of Letters & Law´ written on his return trip to San Francisco from a South Pacific island where he was on business. The language is quaint (we´re in the first half of the 19th century), ´I hurried thitherwards´ . . . ´awakened me wide-eyed & affright´. . . I wouldn´t be surprised if some readers decided to put the book into the box for the next bazaar after reading the first pages, I was fascinated...
FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included,new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...
Sunt Lacrimae rerum. (Tears are everywhere)
Advantages: A big bold book, full of subtle meaning
Disadvantages: May not appeal to some.
...I read a few ciao members' reviews a while back on Cloud Atlas and the book appealed to me so since then I've been looking in my library for this particular book. I could have bought it from Amazon but money is tight and my bookshelves are overflowing so I only buy a book when its one I really want to own. I finally had to order the book in from the main library and at 529 pages even I couldn't read it in one sitting, in took me two days to read it and then a further day to make the connections that are so necessary to understand what Mitchell was trying to say with this many faceted opus.
I had never heard of the author before and to introduce him would take up a large part of my review so briefly: David Mitchell was born in Britain educated to degree standard and spent eight years in Japan before returning to Britain. His previous...
"Souls cross ages like clouds cross skies"
Advantages: One of the books of the decade.
Disadvantages: Mind blowing.
...the French philosopher Michel Foucault:
"History is not a predictable mechanism, but a site of often random struggle in a cruel world of master-slave relationships!"
That could almost have been David Mitchell's blueprint for this book.
The fifth story (An Orison of Sonmi) presents a vision of a future ruled by 'corpocrats' where cloned workers called 'fabricants' serve 'purebloods' in some MacDonaldsized Brave New World which is threatened by 'Abolitionists' and 'Union terrorists'.
"How is it some men attain mastery over others while the vast majority live and die as minions, as livestock?" That's the question we are asked by one of our six narrators directly, and by all six of them in one way or another. Are slavery and exploitation inevitable parts of human society, or shall we overcome them? Quite profound stuff. Must the selfish...
The Mitchell and Webb Situation
Advantages: Great tireless comedy
Disadvantages: Not enough of it perhaps? I dunno
...Okay so first of all I'm a big fan of Peep Show and was quite looking forward to watching this after discovering it in Virgin Megastores (I'd never heard of it before) Can't say I'm too big a fan of sketch shows though I hate Little Britain and Jon Cussacks stuff but this was really good.
It stars both David Mictchell and Robert Webb from Peep Show and is also written by them, and it is basically I rather unheard of but brilliant comedy show. Unlike other shows it doesn't rely too much on one or two jokes being repeated in everysingle episode it works on a series of similar sketches and places throughout one episode like a small serial. For example in episode one there are a few sketches all about a servant trying to poison his master but after that Mitchell and Webb had the imagination to leave that joke behind and move on not like...
