David Cook
Advantages: Current American Idol winner, a musician
Disadvantages: None
...This...... is the current American Idol Winner.
David Cook is the American Idol that nearly never was. He actually was not initially going to try out for the television talent show, he was at the auditions to support his brother but, after some pushing from his brother, decided to audition too. A good decision, because he became the winner of the seventh season of American Idol in 2008.
David Cook is classified as a Rock, singer-songwriter. His sound is definitely very rocky, but in my opinion quite soft rock. He has a very deep, raspy voice that lends itself very well to this type of music. What I really like about him is that he can actually play an instrument, unlike a lot of the new pop stars out there today who are just manufactured. He plays the guitar and actually used it quite a lot when he was performing on Idol. If you look...

FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

David Tua, Hard hitting
Advantages: Hits hard, brilliant chin
Disadvantages: Pretty unskilled
...David Tua, arguably one of the best current boxers never to have held a "proper" world title (WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO) and most certainly one of the most entertaining of the current crop of heavyweights (not saying
much I admit).
-*-Early days-*-
Born Mafaufau Tavita Lio Mafaufau Sanerivi Talimatasi (according to wikipedia anyway) the man we know as David Tua was born in Samoa to a man and a woman (who'se names I do not know). At an early age he moved to New Zealand and thats where he picked up boxing.
-*-Amateur days-*-
As an amateur Tua quickly rose through the national ranks becoming a champion in 1988 (at a juniour level I think) in the heavyweight category. 4 Years later he proved he was pretty good as a "man" (as opposed to a huge 15 year old "boy") winning a bronze medal in the 1992 Olympics fighting at the -91 KG category...

Another Great Singer from American Idol (David Cook - David Cook)
Advantages: Great album from start to finish most of which David had a hand in writing
Disadvantages: None
...I am a very big fan of the reality TV shows, X Factor, Britain's Got Talent and most of all American Idol, I think these show are a great way of giving people the chance to make it. I think American Idol seems to produce some incredible talent, it seems each year they have that one person who you know is going to make it big, for example Kelly Clarkson (who I am a massive fan of) and now David Cook (winner of season seven in 2008).
From the very first show I loved the sound of David Cooks voice, it just had a completely different sound from the other contestants and he made every song his own, he didn't seem bothered about how big a song was, he would change it to suit him, sometimes it didn't work but most the time it did and it was amazing.
After he won the show I thought that I would get his album as soon as it was released but then...

Great album by David Archuletta
Advantages: 12 out of 12 great songs
Disadvantages: none
...To be honest when he sang in American Idol he was not my favourite singer but since hearing his song Crush I decided to try and risk spending my money on getting his album and I Surprising liked it he sings so much better than his time idol.A little info about David he came second in American idol in final with another David cook a rocker,He has released to songs off the album crush which is track number one and in the song he is asking the person do they really love each other or is it just a crush and maybe it won't last. The latest single from his album is called touch my hand and was released on 9th December. It really good song and is about him at a concert and he is trying to get her to try and come to him before its to late and they don't see each other again.the song is not a ballad and is a song people could actually dance to...

David Gray
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...David Gray's first album 'White Ladder' was advertised on TV prior to release and the advert built it up in the same way Radioheads 'The Bends ' was touted as the best album ever. I first heard the album at a freinds and was taken by the strength of Gray's vocals in what is a melodic and soulful range of tracks. His distinctive style is like no other that I have heard and coming from a Metal/Thrash background, I was surprised that I liked this album so much. I would reccommend that everybody should listen to this this album and not just rate on the one song that has entered the charts....

Blemish - David Sylvian
Advantages: darkly personal challenging adult electronica
Disadvantages: hard to listen to at times, plus Derek Bailey's atonal guitar
...David Sylvian, the velvet voiced ex singer with Japan, and a solo artist since the early eighties is most well known for his often lush, romantic music.
Blemish is nothing like the neo-classical Secrets Of The Beehive, nothing like the ambient rock of Dead Bees On A Cake, nothing like the proto-world music of Words With The Shaman.
Blemish was written and recorded very quickly, as Sylvian was in the throes of a very painful separation from his wife and children, and predominantly features just Sylvian himself on all manner of electronica, which buzzes and fizzes most disagreably. Shards of angular guitar crop up courtesy of jazzer Derek Bailey but these are even more atonal than the electronics.
The opening title track is a hard to listen to reflection on his break up, lasting 13 minutes! If you can survive this, then...

The many sides of David...
Advantages: Well written, fascinating subject
Disadvantages: -
...King David is hailed in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament as the greatest of the kings of the Israelites, the model of kingship, and the forerunner of messiahship. Later ideas of the messiah often focused upon David; most who claimed to be the messiah in later times would look to the military and political aspects to support their claim; even Jesus, who eschewed the idea of an earthly kingdom, nonetheless had David as a primary image.
Some see David as a mythological figure. Certainly the image projected of him and the shadow this character casts over subsequent Israelite and biblical history is one of mythic proportions. Partly the constructs around David have become so strangely skewed that one asks the question, as the literature both in the biblical texts and later developments can lead one to asking the question, 'can any one man...

David Gray
Advantages: Very mellow
Disadvantages: Couple of terrible tunes
...White Ladder sees David Gray make something of a departure from his usual style, a more modern sound, adding differing beats and electronic sounds to his more traditional acoustic guitar and piano in a successful attempt to widen his appeal. A very mellow album ideal for chilling out to. He has a great voice and is a very talented singer/songwriter.
"Babylon" is the track most people will recognize, but the album has better tracks such as "My oh my" and "We're not right" and other beautiful tunes. There are a couple of dissapointing tracks such as "Forgive Me" and "Say Hello..." but overall the quality is excellent. Not quite as good as the current Coldplay & Toploader releases but definately worth buying....
