Davos has everything for young and old!

Advantages: Too many to mention! Davos is aimed at the tourist, yet has a homely feeling about the place. It offers everything you can wish for.
Disadvantages: When it rains, it rains! Remember to bring your plastic mac.

...I've been to Davos on three separate occasions, all lasting three weeks. The first time I went I was just 14. The last time I visited Davos was this summer (2000) at the age of 19. Davos offers so many things to the tourists. Fantastic transport services, free use of transport within the area for all tourists, and they always run on time. There is a huge sports centre, which includes an ice rink which is also open during the summer. There are many tennis courts, a golf course and many other sports facilities available. For those not so interested in sports can shop at their hearts content. The main shopping street connects Davos Platz with Davos Dorf. It offers shops ranging from designer names to the more local high street names. There is also a cinema which screens many films, often dubbed or subtitled, recently released...

Review of Davos (Switzerland)

Not only for Gates and Clinton

Advantages: Great slopes, great views
Disadvantages: Can be pricey

...Davos may be best known for the trade conference with Bill Gates, Clinton, etc. But it is also one of my favourite snowboarding resorts in Switzerland. So much so, that I have been there about 15 times. The slopes are suitable for everyone from beginner to very advanced. There is usually good opportunity for powder snow, just off the pisted slopes. If you want, you can ski all the way down to Klosters and then catch a free bus or train back. Good, reasonably priced restaurants on the slopes. Good nightlife and restaurants in town, although some can be rather expensive. Just make sure you don't miss the last gondola back from the bottom of the long red run... it's a long way back to Davos if you do!...

A Summer to Remember

Advantages: Beautiful scenery; great pubs; delicious food; mountains; like-minded souls.
Disadvantages: Expensive

The idea of a mountainous land where cheese, chocolate, clocks and boy scout knives are the main exports and there are no less than four main national languages is perhaps difficult to picture, but I can assure everybody that Switzerland does exist, and that it's the most beautiful and tranquil place in the world! In 1997, at just 19 years of age, I decided to bite the bullet and spend a summer working abroad. I managed to get a position as a night porter at a Swiss hotel in the resort of Davos. Arriving there was an amazing experience: the railway ran through hills and canyons, past gorgeous valleys and flowing rivers with wispy white clouds floating above them, right through the Eastern Alps via Landquart to the town of Davos Platz. Who's Got the Craic? The Moldy Peaches i'd say...

Advantages: Charming, hilarious, touching, heartfelt and passionate
Disadvantages: Always leaves me wanting more!

...the meaning in tracks like "These Burgers" (about child psychiatry), and "D.2. Boyfriend" (which should be an album of empowerment for loners and outsiders everywhere). It's not all ballads and happiness set to acoustic guitars however, The Moldy Peaches also know how to rock, and do so with skill. "NYC's Like a Graveyard" harks back to the Ramones hey-day (or should that be hey-ho-day?!), all buzzsaw guiitar work and choppy drums. Similarily "Downloading Porn with Davo" has a tempo that would get most OI! fans pogoing, but doesn't lose that undeniable, unique tongue in cheek charm of the band. Probably the bands "biggest" hit "Who's got the crack?" features half way through this album is a campsite favourite, bellowed at the tops of voices at 3a.m, beer in hand and acoustic guitar in the background. So when Dave Gorman wrote a book about Googlewhacking he combined the Internet with humour to produce an intriguing and must read book that I simply could not ignore. As Dave Gorman skipped through his inbox one morning little did he know his life was about to change dramatically. Amongst the offers of cheap Viagra and even cheaper Ink cartridges was an intriguingly titled email from an unknown sender, the email was titled ?Googlewhack? and that word alone was enough to intrigue Dave as he went against basic email etiquette and opened and unknown email from an unknown sender. A class act all the way

Advantages: Complete flexibility; The company motto is: "nothing is too much trouble"; It has a large following of guests who come back year after year; Reps are experts on their resort, speak the local language, and are available 24 hours a day.
Disadvantages: Expensive; Switzerland is not much of a party nation, so ravers are better off in Ibiza.

Who's got the crack? Addictive listening.

Advantages: Clever, moving, satirical, silly- many things rolled into one.
Disadvantages: Might not be to everyone's taste due to offensive language.

...melody brings about a feeling of familiarity and the repetition of the lyrics by Kimya adds a lovely touch. Whilst you could delve into the deeper meaning of the lyrics, it's possible to just see it as a simple love song between too lovers. Catchy too, try not to find yourself "do do do"ing along! 3) What Went Wrong- An introduction to the Moldy Peaches' more eccentric side and could be a place in which they loose appeal for some people. Still, a funny track and captures a sense of what it may be like to see them live i.e. chaotic. 4) Nothing Came Out- Another slower song which makes full use of Kimya's unique and touching voice. The melacholy guitar and self-depricating lyrics makes this a heartbreaker. Weather: Spring/Summer: Switzerland is a few degrees Centigrade cooler than England, except the region next to Italy ? Tessin. In all other counties it is between 12 and 24 degrees during this seasons, in Tessin it is between 14 and 28 degrees. Autumn/Winter: This seasons are quite cool, especially in the skiing-regions (Davos, Arosa, Verbier, Nendaz are some of the biggest ? and dearest). Temperatures vary from minus 10 up to 10 degrees Centigrade. Languages: Switzerland may be very small, but it has four (!) official languages. So it should be no problem to speak English to everyone, as well as German and French. The fourth language is dying, so you want really find people...
