To start with, they work every bit as well now, as they always did Yes they have the annoying habit of having the exhaust airflow pointing forwards, so if you are trying to suck up something light, like dust or feathers, you have to draw the cleaner backwards over the floor instead of pushing it forwards, otherwise you end up in a blizzard! My solution to this is to tape a piece of card to the front of the cleaner which forces the airflow upwards, much to the amusement of my children, and ridicule of my wife, but that's a small price to pay. Part of the reason for their longevity is the cleaners are practically indestructible, there's only three moving parts; the motor, the belt and the brush assembly. If your motor burns out, there isn't a lot you can do, you require special tools to get inside the housing...

DC01 is it DEAD CUTE

Advantages: It does a very good job,nuff said.
Disadvantages: initial price, remembering to change filters.Treading on the power cable

The Truth - DYSON DC01

Advantages: No bags
Disadvantages: Can't cope with brick dust, bad value for money

...The DC01 is the original Dyson vacuum cleaner. You needed no bags and it had a reveloutionary spin cycle system allowing giving it more power. I bought mine after seeing the advert. I paid £200 for it - a lot more than my old hoover was worth. At first I was very pleased with it, however I realised you still needed to change filters regularly, which I saw as a drawback. I used my Dyson for hoovering the house as I had done with all vacuum cleaners but we were having building work done at the time and the DC01 could not cope with the brick dust, which led to some problems with it. I do not consider the Dyson DC01 to be that much greater than my old hoover because due to not having bags; the brick dust clogged up the Dyson and it needed to be thoroughly cleaned out for it to work - a horrible job. The great DC01 con

Advantages: Cheapest Dyson
Disadvantages: Not reliable, losses suction, gets blocked

...One of the first, if not THE first Dyson, with its claim of "no loss of suction" Yes it does lose its suction! It gets blocked up very easily, especially with pet hairs. As soon as I got it out of its box, and plugged it in, I had to telephone the Dyson helpline, as the thing would only work if my finger was pressing on the switch. The helpline told me to unscrew the plastic plate at the side of the power switch and screw it back up, but not as tight. Remember, at the time, this was a very expensive cleaner and already I am having to repair it. When the DC01 is used with the "wand", the cleaner is unstable and will fall over easily exposing the rotating brush, so be careful how you pick it up again. The rotating brush still looks as new today as it did when I pulled the cleaner out of its box. Thats because it never has touched...

Advantages: No bag.
Disadvantages: Watching the position of the mains cable.

...We have owned a Dyson DC01 in blue and grey for nearly four years now, having found it to be very good at picking up all sorts of dust and powders, I would like to recommend to reader look for a new hoover. The only fault we have had is that one day when using the wand to gain access to hard to reach place the Dyson rolled over the main power cable and chewed it up, cutting almost right through it resulting in a new mains cable being fitted which we had lengthen by 1 metre just to give more of a range than the original cable from the mains power socket. This could have happened at anytime with any hoover I think. Other than replacing the filter about every 2.5 months (the recommend time is every 3 months) when it is noticeable that performance of the Dyson is beginning to decrease in terms of picking up dust and dirt. MANY OF MY CLIENTS HAVE A DYSON OF SOME DESCRIPTION.ON THE SURFACE THEY ARE QUITE ATTRACTIVE AND HAVE A GOOD REPUTATION FOR 100% SUCTION ALL OF THE TIME. I HOWEVER HAVE FOUND THAT AFTER THREE MONTHS OF USE THE SUCTION DRAMATICALLY REDUCES.REASONS FOR THIS MAY VARY FROM FILTERS NEEDING CHANGING,FAN BELT SNAPPING , BLOCKAGES IN MAIN HOSE OR EVEN NON APPARENT REASONS!!!(USUALLY TIME FOR A SERVICE COSTING £25) WHEN EMPTYING THE HOOVER DUST FLYS EVERYWHERE ESPECIALLY IF THE MAIN DRUM GETS STUCK FROM DUST AND THEN THE WHOLE PART COMES AWAY FROM THE MACHINE. Christmas killed my DC01 but DC04 saves the day

Advantages: Not very good at disposing of Christmas tinsel
Disadvantages: Excellent vacuum cleaner

...Well it was the wife really! I don't want to knock Dyson at all because I have found this vacuum cleaner to be one of the best purchases we have ever made. We killed ours hoovering up some tinsel (by mistake). Our old hoover (did I give away the manufacturer?) would not have been able to suck up such wonderful stuff. Unfortunately, the tinsel trapped the belt and blew the motor. We were just outside our warranty as well. My wife rang the helpful helpline at Dyson only to find that it would cost £50 callout plus parts. Regretfully we packed the DC01 into the garage in preparation for waste disposal. We immediately went out and bought the new DC04 Absolute (saving £50 plus callout?). Brilliant (not referring to the very bright purple and green colours. Lifetime filters etc. My wife was delighted to have such a new toy...

Dyson Vacumn cleaners - DC01

Advantages: The best thing about Dyson is the service, the fact that it's a British company and if anything goes wrong they come and pick it up for you.
Disadvantages: If you suck up any liquids - easy to do accidently if you have messy kids like mine - it won't work well for a few days.
