Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. WAter LIke a Stone didn't sink like a stone

...After reading and enjoying 'The Dark House' by Deborah Crombie I decided to read another of her Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James Series. 'Water Like a Stone' grabbed my attention for two reasons, firstly the title comes from my favourite carol, In the Deep Mid Winter, and also I know the area in Cheshire that the novel is set in very well. Deborah Crombie was born in Dallas and grew up in Texas. She immigrated to the UK with her first husband, Peter Crombie, living first in Edinburgh and then in Chester. Although she travels to England several times a year she now lives in McKinney, Texas. ...My recent quest for FREE DVD hire I visited and many DVD web sites that offered a free trial. Now call me tight (no that wasn?t an invite), but I like bargains and freebies and am not ashamed to say so. My quest took me to enough sites to hire DVDs for about four months so far (with plenty to come too). My latest free DVD site also happens to be the best I have tried for several reasons (see rest of op); the site in question is Blockbuster.co.uk. Other sites that I have had free rentals from and then cancelled have all been similar, two weeks free trial with two DVD?s per time ? which in effect gives you about four free DVD?s. With Blockbuster?s things are different slightly ? which add a great deal of benefit to us the customer. Deborah Crombie has a wonderful way of hooking you into the story in just the very first sentences, and while even though it was very late into the night I was desperate to learn the fates of all the characters concerned. The story flows along at a steady pace, and each chapter ending in such away that you can't stop to you've read the next and the next, get the picture? I can honestly say that while reading this novel, I couldn't find a single thing to fault about it. While some readers may feel that Crombie is over descriptive at times, I found that to be in her favour and didn't feel she over did it in the slightest. Books for me are away of escaping from the day to day hustle and bustle of life, and this one is perfect for doing so. Many a time I felt as if I was in the book myself, as I could smell the food on the table at Christmas...
