Advantages: HDMI port, Speedy pc, reliable, good value for money
Disadvantages: Battery life, DVD drive burning speed, no firewire port

...Since i use this every day i have become used to it's speed, reliability and how it fares all round. The Dell inspiron is a fairly average sized laptop, boasting 2gb RAM, 15.4" screen, dvd drive, 120GB Hard drive and of course a 2gb core duo processor. Firstly bootup and speed. With full battery and windows vista i counted that it took me approximately 20 seconds from on to log on screen which is very impressive for vista or even a laptop. To log onto an account with widgets it takes a further 30seconds to a minute for the laptop to load all the start upitems on a laptop with apps such as iplayer, veoh, 4od and itunes. Surfing the web or browsing files is quick and responsive, with firefox loadsing almost straight away so you can click away at the internet. Browsing through files is average due to the restraints of the hard drive...

Advantages: Relatively Cheap
Disadvantages: Cheapness comes at a cost.......

...laptops have been stored in cases every night and treated with care. Both daughters have subsequently got laptops out in the morning, only to find the screen cracked and unusable. They haven't kept these in either cold or hot conditions, they haven't been dropped, had drinks spilled over them or in any way ill-treated. Both machines, at less than 1 year old (but, of course, screens are not covered under warranty). This apparently is not uncommon, (simply google the issue for more info). The issue seems to be a result of manufacturers constantly seeking to lower the weight and width of laptops - screens are now so thin that they are incredibly susceptible to damage even when treated with extreme care.... As a result, both girls have replacement laptops and Dell are no longer on our Christmas card list!!...

Advantages: Looks good, fairly fast processing speed

...easily switch the wireless on or off at the flick of a switch which is also pretty useful. The processing speed on this laptop is pretty good for a laptop of this price but could do with a boost. Its certainly not a laptop for gaming but is a good laptop for streaming music and videos. The built in webcam isn't of the greatest quality and the video's that you can take with it often jump instead of streaming like a high quality webcam should. There is also a 8-in-1 card reader on the front of the laptop so you can easily upload pictures from your camera or mobile without a lot of external cables. However, the touch sensitive media controls are often a little slow at turning the volume up or down and it is usually faster to go into the volume control menu on the taskbar instead. ...This is one of three Dell laptops i currently own. This is the best. This laptop is very fast and powerful for what you pay, the intel 2-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor drives this laptop so fast. go for a large memory option when buying, svaes a lot of money in the future Sound can distort at higher levels, grapics are bright and colours are bright. Unlike earlier inspiron model the webcam is a good addition, Wifi seems to get a slightly better reception, not sure why WIFI card is the same in Both. Glossy 15.4 screen looks amazing, Dell have learned from the Inspiron 1501, go for a longer life battery still quite short with WIFI on. My best bit advice is pay for a mid range model, your get about the same spec off sony for about £800 more...

...Having recently purchased this laptop, I have been generally very pleased with it's performance. It's not too heavy to carry around, the battery life is much better than I expected although obviously the screen brightness must be turned down. The running speed of programs is also good (and I only choose the basic parts, it can all be upgraded). The sound is loud, not great quality but this seems expected on a laptop. Finally, the body can be coloured giving it a more personal and fun touch. Everything else seems to be in good working order, and the basic windows programmes were already installed when it arrived so it was ready to go pretty much staright away. Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop

Advantages: Competitive price, good performance, well made machine
Disadvantages: Battery life could be a little longer but is fine for general use

...Having purchased this laptop back in April 2008, I can say that after just over a year of owning and using this model every day for work and studying it has been a great performer and done everything I have wanted it to in a timely fashion. I upgraded the RAM to 3gb from the standard 2gb and went with the 250gb hard drive. So far ive been able to work with Sage Line 50 Accounts, VMware test labs and use large powerpoint documents with no problem in performance at all. The only issue I did have recently was that the hard drive seemed to be a little more audible at times and a little warmer to the touch that normal. I ran the dell diagnostics and found that there was an error with the hard drive. I called Dell support the next day, gave them the error code and they had a courier change out the hard drive for a brand new bigger drive (a...
