Inspiring Inspiron from Dell

Advantages: Good spec, reasonable price, great processor
Disadvantages: The piano black surface attracts dust and dirt.

...I purchased the Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop back in January for my daughter's birthday. I had a limited budget but wanted to get her something with decent enough spec for playing computer games should she wish to do this, and a large hard drive as she is a big fan of making videos on her digital camera and downloading music - two things which can eat up hard drive space. I did a fair bit of research before purchasing and decided I wanted to get the best spec I possibly could for my money and the Inspiron ticked all the boxes. I paid £399 in January 2009 in Currys for the laptop which was the absolute limit on my budget. The Dell I purchased has a dark blue coloured lid, however the rest of it is a shiny piano black which looks lovely. I would have preferred metal for the mousepad area - it feels sturdier and doesn't seem to attract...

Dell Inspiron 1545 - good entry level laptop

Advantages: Cheap, good brand, lots of features,
Disadvantages: Probably not powerful enough for games, bottom of the market now

...The Dell Inspiron 1545 is an easy to use entry level laptop. Unlike two years ago when I bought my previous laptop, you can now get a number of Dell computers (of which this is one) direct from high street retailers. This is good if you want it in a rush and want a nearby place to handle any issues, but has the disadvantage that you can't customise your laptop to your own requirements to the same extent that you can if you buy it direct from Dell (which takes several weeks). Because Dell are so good at allowing customisation, you need to be very careful when you buy that you actually get the one you need - they are not all the same, so you can't just go into a shop and say "Give me your Inspiron 1545" - you need to be sure that it e.g. has a suitable processor, enough memory and a big enough hard drive for your needs. The dell inspiron laptop is it a good buy!

Advantages: The look of the dell inspiron laptop seems more classy then other notepads. It is simplistic.
Disadvantages: Maybe Dell Have gone too simplistic with this model as the features are nothing to rave about

...The Dell inspiron laptop has an attractive classy look, it has a simplistic stream-line look. When I take it out its case I feel good about it because its not a big bulky embarassing computer thing. However, if your one for keeping everything clean and tidy and no smudges anywhere, then maybe you might be irritated by this laptop. With its glossy look smudges, smears and fingerprints stand out like a sore thumb. You feel like your constantly wiping it. You also have to watch what you wipe the laptop with as it is quite easy to scratch. A better idea for Dell would be to provide a cloth to clean it with, one they know wont damage your laptop. Dell Inspiron 1545 - tried and tested for 6 months

Advantages: Easy to use, perfect for storing vast amounts of data, very big hard drive!
Disadvantages: No webcam, poor battery life when watching films/episodes

A Good Family Desktop Computer?

...The Dell Dimension 5100 is a great family desktop computer, in fact I am using it right now. Mine did not come with the DVD-ROM so it lacks to play the new games so I pay to download them but I?m sure newer versions of the dell 5100 have it in. It comes with SMC/xD, MS/MS PRO, CF 1/11 and SD/MMC card slots. Two Usb ports at the front and five at the back. Mine took a bit of a while but I managed to get it to burn onto dvd-rw disks. It lives up to expectations and it?s designed for a family computer and not just for gaming. My graphics card isn't the best but since it?s not made for gaming so that?s acceptable. I use lots of software on it, manly 3d design software and gaming software and it still works well. If you?re planning on purchasing one I would not advise you to rely on the windows firewall to stop viruses. I suppose...

A sleek looker that Dell makes as customisable as you like online

...I've had a Studio 1535 for about a year now and that's given me plenty of time to get a good idea of how this laptop works. The first thing I really liked about the machine was that Dell allow you to customise pretty much every aspect when you order online. I was able to maximise both the hard drive size (300Gb) and the RAM (4Gb) as I consider these to be essential for me. I also ordered the larger battery pack which, although it makes the machine heavier, does give me 5 hours of battery life for lighter tasks and doubles as a heat sink by raising the machine up and allowing air to flow underneath to cool it. ...My experience with Dell has not been a good one. Encouraged to buy on the basis that if there is a problem, Dell arange collection and return. I purchased a lap top for my 86 year old father who lives 200 miles away. He often had trouble with it, and I must admit that I thought it was him, however, within a few months he was reporting a message regarding a physical memory dump. Dell wanted him to try doing various things on the internet completely missing the fact that he couldn't even get on it. It was collected but sadly, never returned. It got lost. Instead of the week away, it was 6. However I was constantly reassured - but you will get a more up to date lap top now and no one seemed to understand that meanwhile, my father had nothing to use and he had lost all his photos and everything else he had put on it...
