Reviews of dell axim
Dell Axim X30 PDA - 624Mhz Intel PXA.
Review of Dell Axim X30 by
wealthsaver
Advantages: Capable and robust PDA with rich features including Wireless B and Bluetooth.
Disadvantages: Shortcut button does not allow just switch on BT or Wireless networking.
...Dell have produced a great PDA in the X30. The one to go for is the 624Mhz version and it has 64Mb ram. This can be expanded with SDRam cards or MMC.There is a cut down model without Wireless with a 312Mhz cpu but go for the 624Mhz model with Wireless 802.11b and Bluetooth. It comes from Dell with a USB sync cradle that also recharges your Axim.
There is an adapter that can be used with the power adapter to charge when you are travelling. Also included is a leather wallet
stylus and driver cd which has some extra software and demo versions of some commercial application software.
The operating system is MS Pocket PC 2003 SE. Bundled applications include Pocket Word, Excel, Notes, Media Player, Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger. Games include Solitaire and Jawbreaker an adictive game in the line of Tetris.
Uses for your PDA...

Very powerful Pocket PC
Review of Dell Axim X51v 624Mhz by
brianbadger
Advantages: Looks great, big bright screen, WiFi connectivity
Disadvantages: Expensive accessories, needs ROM upgrade for CF cards
...I bought the Dell Axim X51v 624Mhz to replace my ageing Palm Tungsten. Its the first time I've used Pocket PC and it makes things a lot easier when synching with my desktop PC. The screen is big and bright, with a good resolution. The built-in speaker is adequate for the job and through earphones the sound quality is very good. I use it with a bluetooth keyboard, which was a bit fiddly to set up at first but works very well. I have no problem connecting to my home wireless network via the built-in WiFi. Bluetooth connections are fast and reliable. The included software is adequate for the job and there is a huge amount of freeware and shareware software on the internet which can be downloaded. Unfortunately the pre-installed calculator is very basic, unlike the fantastic calculator that comes with the Palm OS. But the rest...

Dell Axim x50v
Review of Dell Axim X50v by
jaddingt
Advantages: Screen Image, Screen Size, Processor and Memory, replaceable battery
Disadvantages: Battery life, bugs, button layout
...This is my third PDA and in my opinion its by far the best. The Dell Axim x50v has a fatastic VGA screen that provides a very crisp display. I am using my PDA mainly as an all in one solution to my entertainment and productivity needs. As a result I have found the SD and CF Card expansion slots very useful. I have a 1GB SD card and a 4GB CF Card installed and have a selection of movies, music and games on both. The PDA handles the lot with ease, sound quality via the standard earphone socket does the job and the video playback is good enough for the screen size. The inclusion of wi fi and bluetooth is a great help and allows you to access your email and the internet with ease.
My only gripe with the unit has been with some lock ups with the unit which has forced me to reset the PDA, that said I have owned three PDA's in the past...

A fabulous product - highly recommended
Review of Dell Axim X30 by
katstreet
Advantages: Looks great, works flawlessly, has wireless AND bluetooth
Disadvantages: Dell customer service isn't great when buying...
...I bought my Dell Axim X30 just over 3 months ago, and I absolutely love it. I did a lot of research in order to choose this particular model, and in the end I opted for it because I could get a 624MHz processor with bluetooth, wireless and a cradle for a similar sum as a lower-spec X50. It's considerably cheaper than many similar products produced by other companies.
The only downside is the Dell customer service. It really isn't as good as it should be. It's impossible to speak to the same person twice, so if you have a query you can rarely resolve it. Dell uses foreign call centres, and there is a definite feeling that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
However despite that my PDA was delivered extremely quickly, perfectly packaged and with everything I ordered.
Another positive feature of the X30 itself...

Dell Axim X3i
Review of Dell Axim X3 by
biglox
Advantages: Lightweight, easy to use, good battery life, reliable!
Disadvantages: Have yet to find any.
...I bought the X3i about 2 months ago on ebay. It was basically "as new / boxed etc" and came bundled with Tom Tom Sat. Nav, Bluetooth GPS receiver, usb docking cradle, car cradle/loud speaker, car power supply lead and leather case.
To be honest I bought it more for the Sat. Nav. but having used the rest of the features (Calendar, email, microsoft word etc etc) I now wonder how on earth I managed without them before. Used in conjuction with Microsoft Activesync on my desktop computer, organising my diary and work schedules has become a doddle.
The whole package including all the Sat. Nav. stuff was retailing at about £450 - £500 but let's just say I paid considerably less on ebay. I am not sure Dell are still producing the X3i but there are various retail sites still offering the basic PDA for around £200.
Bluetooth and wifi...

Power without price
Review of Dell Axim X5 by
chrispitts
Advantages: Cheap, powerful, versatile
Disadvantages: A bit bulky. Not as "cool" as an IPaq
...wanted full colour screen, I wanted mp3 playback, and video, and photo storage. I wanted easy storage upgrades.
Looks. Less important, but, hey, it has to look good too, right?!!
And so after looking through websites and magazines endlessly, I settled on the Dell Axim.
Why?
If you compare raw power/memory, like for like, you'll see that the Dell Axim X5 Advanced is on a par with the top of the range Pocket pcs, such as the Ipaq. but it's less than half the price!! In fact, it's the same price as most machines with 1/3 or less of the memory/power capacity.
That was the main draw. It also has support for Compact Flash/mmc and SD memory, so I could swap cards from my digital camera (SD), and also buy a cheaper CF card for permanent use in the Axim. Which reminds me - one slight low point of being a technophile is that you tend...

PC, MP3 & Video Player, Games & more in one
Review of Dell Axim X51v 624Mhz by
damionh
Advantages: Large Screen, Fast Processor, easy to use interface and more !
Disadvantages: Battery life not as advertised but still beefy enough
...Dell Axim X51v 624mhz
The Dell X51v comes in different forms, this review is based on the X51v model with the 624mhz processor, I have had my PDA now for little over a month, its primary use is as a GPS Satellite Navigation device when it is coupled with my GPS device by Bluetooth. My original idea was to buy a Sat Nav system, however after looking at the ever falling prices and raising specifications of PDA's I decided to go down this route. Whilst more expensive, the PDA provides lots more abilities than just buying a Sat Nav device. For those who are unsure of what a PDA is, PDA stands for Personal Digital Assistant and is basically a palmheld watered down PC. Ive added the full specifications to the bottom of my review to compliment the details given by Ciao and to give a greater understanding of what is available
PDA's have so...

An all round easy to use piece of kit!
Review of Dell Axim X3 by
Vistrix
Advantages: Thin and lightweight.
Disadvantages: No backup battery. Can accidentally be wiped when battery runs out.
...I evaluated the Dell Axim x3 for my workplace for various tasks such as a using it as a personal diary and installing work applications. I found it was extremely easy to use (I was a first time PDA user) and I was soon using all the features of the software it provided.
The PDA is extremely easy to use and set up. I almost didnt need a manual for reference. I did not have an SD card and so the memory on it was very limited. I would recommend buying an SD card to go with this if you are going to be storing large files on it. The large screen is very clear to view applications and can be adjusted for brightness and power saving options.
The built in WiFi (Wireless network card) was very reliable as I used it to connect to my office network. I could then view websites with the PDA which was extremely fast. It also formated each page...

My Palm Tungsten E was beginning to show its age after a couple of years and I started looking at a replacement. I am not confident about the future for Palm units so thought I'd look at Pocket PC models. After initially looking at HP iPaq models I felt that the Dell range offered better value for money. My criteria included straightforward compatibility with MS Outlook and other MS Office applications...

A top of the range pda
Review of Dell Axim X50v by
gamtab
Advantages: 624MHz XScale processor, 64 SDRAM 128mb ROM, 3.7" VGA screen, wifi & Bluetooth, 16mb video memory
Disadvantages: Button arrangement and size
...The X50v is the latest in the Dell Axim pda range. To make things confusing Dell has 3 different X50 models, the low end X50 416MHz, the mid range X50 520MHz and the high end X50v 624MHz.
The X50v differs from the other two by having a 624MHz XScale processor, 128mb ROM, 3.7" VGA screen, wifi and Bluetooth enabled and an Intel 2700G multimedia accelerator with 16mb video memory.
This all adds up to one powerful little machine.
The large 3.7" VGA screen has a 480x640 resolution with vibrant colors and excellent brightness. Once you see the X50v VGA screen you'll wonder why you've been using a 240x320 QVGA screen. The VGA screen allows for greater detail which can reduce the font size on screen, to compensate for this there is a font size setting.
The level of brightness can also be adjusted for optimal viewing depending on the ambient...
