Inspiring Inspiron from Dell

Advantages: Good spec, reasonable price, great processor
Disadvantages: The piano black surface attracts dust and dirt.

...I purchased the Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop back in January for my daughter's birthday. I had a limited budget but wanted to get her something with decent enough spec for playing computer games should she wish to do this, and a large hard drive as she is a big fan of making videos on her digital camera and downloading music - two things which can eat up hard drive space. I did a fair bit of research before purchasing and decided I wanted to get the best spec I possibly could for my money and the Inspiron ticked all the boxes. I paid £399 in January 2009 in Currys for the laptop which was the absolute limit on my budget. The Dell I purchased has a dark blue coloured lid, however the rest of it is a shiny piano black which looks lovely. Advantages: Lightweight, easy to use, good battery life, reliable!

...I bought the X3i about 2 months ago on ebay. It was basically "as new / boxed etc" and came bundled with Tom Tom Sat. Nav, Bluetooth GPS receiver, usb docking cradle, car cradle/loud speaker, car power supply lead and leather case. To be honest I bought it more for the Sat. Nav. but having used the rest of the features (Calendar, email, microsoft word etc etc) I now wonder how on earth I managed without them before. Used in conjuction with Microsoft Activesync on my desktop computer, organising my diary and work schedules has become a doddle. The whole package including all the Sat. Nav. stuff was retailing at about £450 - £500 but let's just say I paid considerably less on ebay. Dell Axim x50v

...This is my third PDA and in my opinion its by far the best. The Dell Axim x50v has a fatastic VGA screen that provides a very crisp display. I am using my PDA mainly as an all in one solution to my entertainment and productivity needs. As a result I have found the SD and CF Card expansion slots very useful. I have a 1GB SD card and a 4GB CF Card installed and have a selection of movies, music and games on both. The PDA handles the lot with ease, sound quality via the standard earphone socket does the job and the video playback is good enough for the screen size. The inclusion of wi fi and bluetooth is a great help and allows you to access your email and the internet with ease. My only gripe with the unit has been with some lock ups with the unit which has forced me to reset the PDA, that said I have owned three PDA's in the past...

Dell Axim X30 PDA - 624Mhz Intel PXA.

Advantages: Capable and robust PDA with rich features including Wireless B and Bluetooth.
Disadvantages: Shortcut button does not allow just switch on BT or Wireless networking.

...Dell have produced a great PDA in the X30. The one to go for is the 624Mhz version and it has 64Mb ram. This can be expanded with SDRam cards or MMC.There is a cut down model without Wireless with a 312Mhz cpu but go for the 624Mhz model with Wireless 802.11b and Bluetooth. It comes from Dell with a USB sync cradle that also recharges your Axim. There is an adapter that can be used with the power adapter to charge when you are travelling. Also included is a leather wallet stylus and driver cd which has some extra software and demo versions of some commercial application software. The operating system is MS Pocket PC 2003 SE. ...I just got my Axim about a month ago, upgrading from my Palm device and the first thing that struck me was the overall design - it?s a sexy little beast. The PDA itself is a sleek silver colour, black sides with function buttons that are etched and so won?t fade. ...I bought a few things from Dell for my small business. I realised one product was not compatible with the others when I looked at the email invoice (within 24hrs) so emailed them back straight away to say please can you not ship and can I swap for another product. On the Dell Business website top right hand corner 'view all' drop down menu of the site there is a link to a page where it says this is fine within 7 days although you have to pay £20 admin. I thought not great but its my fault and the other product was cheaper anyway so I could swallow the £20 charge happily. i then had a email response saying a sales rep will call to sort it out. Instead I actually got a curtesy call from despatch rep a few hours later to say they have shipped the product. I told him not to ship but he said its done now. Dell Inspiron 1545 - good entry level laptop

...The Dell Inspiron 1545 is an easy to use entry level laptop. Unlike two years ago when I bought my previous laptop, you can now get a number of Dell computers (of which this is one) direct from high street retailers. This is good if you want it in a rush and want a nearby place to handle any issues, but has the disadvantage that you can't customise your laptop to your own requirements to the same extent that you can if you buy it direct from Dell (which takes several weeks). Because Dell are so good at allowing customisation, you need to be very careful when you buy that you actually get the one you need - they are not all the same, so you can't just go into a shop and say "Give me your Inspiron 1545" - you need to be sure that it e.g. has a suitable processor, enough memory and a big enough hard drive for your needs. well designed little dell that never gets hot

Advantages: cool and quite robust trackpad, good display,64-bit windows 7
Disadvantages: few connectors,dell drivers only, not realy for gameing (most models), finger print prone!

...We got the Dell insperon as a replacement for our trusty old Toshiba laptop we did want a red dell studio but budgetary reality kicked in and we went for this insperon 1545, here's my review for it. Laptop specifications improve all the time, so I wont go on to much about the spec and concentrate more on the laptop as a whole. Now if your new to laptops or computers in general i`ll give you a bit of buying advice. If you want to buy a dell laptop from there website DON'T buy the cheapest £299 model it`s a false economy, there isn't enough memory (just 1GB of ram) witch will mean that it wont be as quick as it could be moreover you will find that it will get slower as you start to fill it up with apps. ALWAYS buy the next model up if you are after a cheap laptop as you get a lot more for your money (as well as sufficient memory). build...

The Axim X30, the last PDA you will ever need

Advantages: 32MB storage space, sd card slot, user friendly
Disadvantages: no wi-fi or bluetooth

...the left hand side of the device which acts like a scroll bar on a computer. There is a stereo headphone slot and a microphone built in as well. Windows Media Player 9, whilst being a bit dated still works well for mp3 files but is hit and miss with video files. MPEG files work well but other files don't, it's best to check if the file type is supported by doing a google search online. The cradle that comes with it is also good, allowing you to charge the PDA and sync with the pc at the same time. There's even a slot for a backup battery. I pushed it to the limits and got eight hours out of it on heavy use (by which I mean I spent eight hours with the device on without it turning off and on the most energy inefficient settings), so it is more than capable of lasting the entire working day and beyond.
