Precision Series
Review of Dell Precision Series by
MichaelBolton
Advantages: Quality, quality, quality
Disadvantages: Cost
...Precision Series
Intro:
I only review things I like and I like this lots and lots (my mother said if you cant say any thing nice don’t say it at all). Dell quality, quality Dell the word are interchangeable if you want a reliable computer the get a Dell. The Precision range is a high-end workstation system for computer-aided design, digital content creation, geographic information systems, computer animation, software development and financial market analysis. The thing to remember it’s not a desktop it’s a workstation hence the high costs.
It’s very hard reviewing an entire series. There cannot be may people out there with four of the five desktop systems available run within the department is I have. So I can only give you a general feel for the range I will try to use the 350 Workstation is at slandered. The computer I am typing...

Outstanding system
Review of Dell OptiPlex 745 Essential DT by
jph20
Advantages: Excellent bulid quality, reliable and come with a 3 year warranty
Disadvantages: Takes 7 working days for the product to be delivered from purchase date
...The optiplex is an excellent choice of workstation for the home or business user. As standard these machines are preinstalled with Microsoft Widows XP Professional and are supplied with a 3 year warranty as standard. I personally have deployed hundreds of these throughout different companies and they are truely reliable. They most deffinately improve efficiency. Only one two occasions i have had any trouble with these workstations. The first time being a blown power supply, which Dell replaced the following day under the warranty and the second being a fault motherboard, again this was fixed the following day. The customer service and technical support Dell provide is second to none. Dell are produmentatly an irish company so there are no problems with language barriers as with some technical support departments. After both faults Dell...

A competitive performer in the business market
Review of Dell Latitude D630 by
Mac2008
Advantages: Portable performance
Disadvantages: May be difficult in deciding on what spec to have
...supplier. A supplier with an impecable support structure. You are therefore buying in to a brand with heritage.
Got that out of the way, so what laptop to buy? You have to be realistic and decide what it is you are going to be doing with it but you are already looking at this (D630) so how will it benefit you?
The D630, as with any Dell product, is totally customisable so you can build a high end number crunching unit or have a mobile workstation to provide access to the communication tools that are important to you.
The important thng to consider is that this laptop is built for usability, reliability and stability. It features Hyperconnect technologies (Dell proprietary network enablers) and strikezone hard disk protection (just in case you drop your laptop, your data will be safe and retrievable).
This laptop comes with a 14.1" WXGA...

Precision 350 Workstation
Review of Dell Precision Series by
Rookgun
Advantages: Quality build, quietness, guarantee.
Disadvantages: Cost
...the appropriate drivers. W2000 is not offered by Dell on anything less than a workstation, so to some extent my hand was forced there.
There was a minor hassle over payment, initially refused by my bank (I was told by a Dell employee) because the sum was 'out of character' compared to my usual buying habits (excuse me? I wonder how many people shell out two grand every week on a computer), but that was quickly cleared away and the Dell was built and arrived within a week of that phone call.
So what is it like? Brilliant. OK, a lot of folding paper, but worth every penny. There has, for example, been a lot of fuss in the PC press recently about noisy machines, and even in my homebuilt systems I have had to swap out fans to try to minimise the incessant whining. It gets wearing. I had no idea what the Dell would be like in this respect, but I wasn...

A great workstation
Review of HP Workstation xw4600 - Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16 GHz by
davisha
Advantages: Great Build Quality
Disadvantages: none
...Pretty good machine - we use it for graphics work and it handles everything well. Plenty of expansion space for additional drives. quality build with excellent case. Hard to fault it really. we added a high end graphic card ( at £350) and it became a dream machine. Renders video and Adobe Dreanweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator with ease. My colleague swears by it and not at it. Wish I could say the same about my Dell laptop.
There are some other good workstations out there but I would stick with HP. The workstation quality that was so apparent with the Compaq brand has not disappeared with the HP takeover. This machine will run and run - expect no less that 3 years usable life from this. When it eventually does give out don't throw away the case. It's almost worth the purchase price itself:o)...

Good computers marred by support staff
Review of Dell Dimension XPS T450 by
rene.millman
Advantages: Good pc
Disadvantages: Bad support
...I would not hesitate in recommending a dell computer to anyone, not least for the build quality, but I would take issue on the appaling lack of respect shown by their support staff.
A year ago, when i was still mad enough to work an 80-hour week and not complain about it, I used to set these fellows up for a company I worked for, having decided to installed NT server instead of workstation I noticed that the hard disc had only reported 2 gig out of the 17 gig the disc had on it.
Needless to say, myself and my colleagues investigated the computer and with our combined experience we knew that the hard disc was buggered.
However the support staff would not look at the pc until we put workstation back on the disc, even though that would have absolutely no effect on the problem whatsoever, half-an-hour and a serious slanging match...

A DELL OF A DEAL
Review of dell.com by
sandrabarber
Advantages: You're dealing direct with the manufacturers of a successful and established brand
Disadvantages: Component shortages
...In desperate need of a better PC, but with no spare money, I set about searching for an online retailer who could do me a great PC at a decent price and also offer me credit. After several days of ploughing through websites and comparing deals, I settled on dell.com.
The web site
The Dell site is fast loading, frequently updated and easy to navigate. Unlike most sites I visited, ordering a computer to your exact spec is an absolute doddle.
First, choose whether you want to see Dell's home, home office or business models. Then choose the PC type you want. You can buy a complete off the shelf work-station, or configure your own. To do this, select the type you want, and click on 'configure and buy'.
You are then taken to a page where you choose your basic configurations such as memory, monitor size, graphics card, speakers, modem...

Its a daewoo.. but it is not a car
Review of Daewoo TFT 15 by
romybuzzer
Advantages: Good value and good quality
Disadvantages: a bit small and still heavy.
...Daewoo have been thought of as making cars in many peoples eyes. I have seen them on the road and we even had a Nexia courtesy car when my car was being fixed last year.
I was quite shocked therefore when my husband suggested we buy a Daewoo monitor.
I can understand why not that I have used it.
Our old monitor had become tired and was starting to malfunction. It is well outside of its warranty so we opted for an after market monitor, rather than buy another Dell.
The Flat LCD Screen monitors seemed to be a good choice because:
*)They take up less space.
*)Give out less harmful radiation.
*)weigh less (in general)
*)Give excellent picture quality.
After shopping around, we decided on the 15 inch TFT Daewoo.
The reasons being numerous.
Firstly, the monitor is much smaller than a standard one. Our computer workstation has benefitted...

Good overall workhorse
Review of Dell Precision M4300 by
Tizz986
Advantages: Long battery life, good performance, clear screen
Disadvantages: Bulky, lack of SD card reader
...The Dell M4300 is the laptop of choice for my company. The 4300 has proven to be a very stable laptop, but with stability comes size. They are somewhat bulky, but I feel it is a trade off worth making for the better performance over the smaller models. Also the added size gives room for a bigger battery which can last as much as 3 hours at times.
One thing that I do wish that was on the m4300 is a 12-in-1 card reader. I have found it a bit of a pain to not have this simple add-on, forcing me to carry a USB card reader along with me.
I would also opt for a larger hard drive than the 80GB, as well as 7200RPM over the 5400RPM. The 2GB of RAM has been plenty for all of my extensive computing needs....

**512MB memory all on a stick**
Review of Dell USB Memory Key USB flash drive - 512 MB by
1st2thebar
Advantages: A lot of memory 512MB worth
Disadvantages: It can get lost in a brief case
...**DELL USB MEMORY STICK**
-- USB Flash Drive 512 MB --
- Dell -
Dell is now the 25th most wealthiest corporation in the US. Why Dell has done so well is due to the smaller component sales -- such as the USB Flash Drive memory keys, among many other computer components. That is a digital USB device.
Dell was founded by Michael Dell in 1984 and was originally named 'PC limited'. At that time IBM was the main specialists in computer products and components worldwide. Michael learn't his trade by using IBM mainframe computers on processing speeds of only 2MHz. A 'MHz' is a tiny fraction of the kind of processor speeds that are in the market today. Dell's visionary could see beyond the systems he worked with and wanted to find away to quicken up data processing and so got to work on building a prototype. In 1985 he managed...
