Reviews of dell vostro 400
Performance, Value for money, Ease of use.
Review of Dell Vostro 1700 by
Jackoh
Advantages: Cheap, Fast, Stylish, Reliable.
Disadvantages: Heavy, Large.
...I was bought a Dell Vostro as an alternative to an Apple Macbook Pro, the initial advantage being a significant difference in cost, My vostro came with 3gb of RAM, a 160gb Hard drive and a 2.2Ghz duel core processor. Since I am studying for a degree in graphic design, The vostro is a tool I could not live without. Seamless use of photoshop, illustrator, flash, quark - you name it! The vostro performs all tasks with ease.
Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and excellent battery life are another brilliant set of features that make the vostro a great computer for a mobile lifestlye, despite it being rather large at 17", It is relatively easy to transport in a laptop bag designed to do just that. I would heartily reccomend the vostro to anyone who requires a great looking performance laptop on a budget. I love mine, and it's yet to let me down. 3 year Dell...

The Dell Vostro 1000
Review of Dell Vostro 1000 by
Chuckles1987
Advantages: price, durability, look, speed, memory
Disadvantages: N/A
...I bought the Dell Vostro 1000 for starting a Degree last september. The Vostro 1000 is marketed at businesses and as such is installed with Windows Vista Business. The laptop came with 2GB of RAM which is ample to run vista comfortably.
The fact that the laptop is marketed for businesses has made no difference to me. In fact it has probably helped me with my degreee as it doesn't come with all the extra unnecessary rubbish that others do (e.g. solitaire, hearts etc)!
The Vostro has been able to handle everything I have thrown at it; every game I have installed, the microsoft ultimate 2007 package, etc.
The Dell Vostro 1000 is amazing quality for money and I would thoroughly recommend it, expecially for anyone on a limited budget.
The battery once charged does not last for ages but it is not too bad at all; as with most laptops...

A personal and business use laptop.
Review of Dell Vostro 1500 by
Jetlaw
Advantages: Small, lightweight, cheap, efficient.
Disadvantages: No use at all for games or graphic intensive applications.
...The perfect portable notebook/laptop for all your personal and business needs.
The Dell Vostro 1500 doesn't come with all the latest and greatest peripherals, but just like the notebook itself the price is also down-to-Earth.
Shipping with a reasonable 1.86ghz processor, 1gb of RAM and a fairly low-spec integrated graphics card the Vostro 1500 is a simple laptop not suited to gaming in the slightest. That being said, this is a powerful and portable notebook perfect for everything personal and business, from powerpoint presentations to word processing to accountancy. The 80gb harddrive is large enough to store a vast collection of music, pictures and documents.
Being fairly low-spec, the battery life is exceptionally impressive. On power-saving mode I was able to squeeze between 4 and 5 hours of life out of the battery working...

Dell Vostro 1000
Review of Dell Vostro 1000 by
hackzilla
Advantages: Cheap and well spec'd
Disadvantages: No disadvantages when priced at £352
...I bought this laptop for myself early on in August 2007 after researching many laptops.
For my perfect laptop it had to have the following features:
- Price ( Under £400 )
- Graphics ( 3D )
- Ample Memory ( Ideally 2GB )
- CD/DVD Writer
- Wireless (G)
- More than 2 USB Ports
- Not too Heavy (Not more than 3KGs)
The main reason I wanted to get a laptop was to be able to do my own computing projects from anywhere in the house.
One of my projects involves using a service called Second Life, which is basically an online 3D chat environment. The laptop that I got had to be able to run their application.
Most laptops I looked at contained 512MB or 1GB ram which is not enough to run Windows Vista comfortably.
This is a fairly tall order for a cheap laptop. Especially as I am a Pro Computer user.
The specifications of Dell laptops always...

Dell Vostro 1700: the dark horse of notebooks
Review of Dell Vostro 1700 by
Aquillyne
Advantages: Built-in webcam, huge number of ports, clever function buttons, media button panel, nice screen
Disadvantages: Basically none except that it is slightly heavy because it contains a lot!
...The new Vostro series from Dell is a dark horse. Despite not getting the attention of Dell's mega-high-spec machines such as the XPS, these laptops designed for small businesses are actually probably the best to buy for any purpose.
As usual, the Vostros are customisable so that you can pay more for better components. A standard configuration will include a dual core Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 2GHz - a very fast processor indeed - alongside an nVidia GeForce separate graphics card, 1GB of RAM and 160GB of hard-disk space. They also come with Windows Vista (or XP if you prefer). Combined, what this provides is an extremely smooth Windows experience. The graphics card handles all the new visual effects in Windows Vista effortlessly, and the large amount of RAM also speeds up programs a great deal. All of these features can be upgraded...

Great Laptop Great Value Loads of features
Review of Dell Vostro 1700 by
lcharm
Advantages: Value, features, price, options, large screen
Disadvantages: delivery time, big and heavy , only available for businesses
...I recently purchased my Vostro 1700 laptop for business and pleasure purposes for an amazing £572.00 excl. VAT direct from Dell's website!!!
Incredible!! but what did I get for that price...?
2.2ghz Intel Core Duo processor
3GB Memory
360GB HArdDrive
Integral Webcam, Bluetooth, Wireless
17"Widescreen monitor
Windows Vista
The price also include certain discounts at the time amounting to about £130!
All i can say is you will have a hard time finding a Desktop PC at that price with the same specifications, let alone a laptop!
Performance is great and does everything I require including really quick start ups. Vista takes some getting used to from XP but once I got the hang of it it was great and has so many useful features. Vista does use quite a bit of memory so I would recommend 2GB upwards.
I am actively using the bluetooth...

A Cut Above The rest
Review of Dell Vostro 1510 by
Baz047
Advantages: Decent Battery life. built with care, won't fall apart any time soon.
Disadvantages: A little hevy for some. Limited customization
...There are many mini laptops on the market right now, such as the Asus Eee PC (which I have reviewed previously). A while ago I started looking for the best one. As stupid as it sounds, the 15"inch Dell Vostro has to be my pick of the litter. Why you might ask? Because it is a budget laptop with no signs of cheapness.
The build is sturdy enough, nothing feels like it is about to snap off, I would go as far as saying that it has been carefully and thoughtfully designed. The keyboard is also magnificient, which has hardly any flex at all.
Like all Dell products, this can be customized to have light energy use and large battery life or vica versa. So it can be as portable as you want it to be, as long as you can lift it, which I don't find too bad at all, my 5ft tall girlfriend tells me otherwise though. So please take into account on how...

Good solid business laptop
Review of Dell Vostro 1500 by
supermushroom
Advantages: Cheap, mean little machine
Disadvantages: Heavy, non-linux compatable
...This seemed to be the only Laptop that came with Win XP (i wasn't very keen on vista) and also with respectable ram (2 gigs) and hard drive space (120 gigs). For the price, it's just the best buy and Dell are known to be a respectable no frills brand which helped.
It's worth noting that my Dell came with a lot of bundled software, slowing it down slightly. It was a litttle trouble to format a new laptop and install the drivers again, but the machine has been satisfactory ever since! The ram seems to work well, the hardware (bluetooth, wireless, DVD, Webcam etc) are top quality and are well integrated to work with each other.
It's worth noting that this Dell is not fully linux compatable yet, since i tried booting it up with Kubuntu, and unsuccessfully tried to get all the hardware to work for 4 months. It was okay though, just double...

Dell XPS R400
Review of Dell Dimension XPS - P4 540 3.2 GHz by
bigdoug
Advantages: Great build, value and support
Disadvantages: Obsolesence as with all PCs
...I purchased this my first PC from DELL online in April 1998. The Dell Dimension XPS R400 had just been released and this was first purchase online at around £2000.
I was able to order slight changes to the base specification without being penalised for having a bespoke PC system rather than a mass prepared one. The order fullfilment was easliy tracked online. I could tell at what stage the PC delivery was, Construction, Testing, Awaiting Dispatch and finally delivery.
I upgraded the 3 year service with the first year onsite to 3 years onsite for the measily sum of £75, which would not even subscribe you to a PC magazine for the same period. I had problems with Windows 95 as I was new to the operating system, the telephone support offered was patient, expert without falling between these two stools.
Later, I had a problem...

DELL DIMENSION E520 - The Basic Guide
Review of Dell Dimension E520 by
bossy01
Advantages: Built to your Spec. Godd Value
Disadvantages: None so far...
...I have just brought my Dell Dimension E520, directly of Dell's website. The reason I decided to go for Dell was that I could pick and choose what spec I wanted and i knew from previous experiences with the company they offered great reliability and value.
I was looking for the cheapest PC I could find. So after searching Dell's site I found this dimension for just under £400. For that I got a 19' flat panel monitor, 2.8 GHZ 160GB hard drive 1024mb RAM, DVD ROM drive and DVD rewriter (2 Seperate Drives), 13 in ! card reader, Keyboard, Mouse an dspeakers. It also came preloaded with Windows Vista Basic. If your after the exact tech details then have a look at some of the other reveiws or the Dell website. The aim of this reveiw is to give you the basics, a guide for those who don't do computers.
So all in all I though...
