...of Dell laptops always seem to be getting better. I made the decision to buy. The snag I found was this Dell Vostro 1000 was a range that is only available to business customers. This wasn't really a major problem, as I could just buy it as a business. Purchasing as a business has a drawback, but it also has a pro point. The drawback to buying as a business is that the distance selling regulations only apply to consumers, so you cannot send it back within 7 days if you change your mind. The pro point is that the laptops tend to have less rubbish installed on them, than their equivalent consumer models. The Dell Vostro 1000

Advantages: price, durability, look, speed, memory

...I bought the Dell Vostro 1000 for starting a Degree last september. The Vostro 1000 is marketed at businesses and as such is installed with Windows Vista Business. The laptop came with 2GB of RAM which is ample to run vista comfortably. The fact that the laptop is marketed for businesses has made no difference to me. In fact it has probably helped me with my degreee as it doesn't come with all the extra unnecessary rubbish that others do (e.g. solitaire, hearts etc)! The Vostro has been able to handle everything I have thrown at it; every game I have installed, the microsoft ultimate 2007 package, etc. The Dell Vostro 1000 is amazing quality for money and I would thoroughly recommend it, expecially for anyone on a limited budget. The battery once charged does not last for ages but it is not too bad at all; as with most laptops...

Dell Vostro 1700: the dark horse of notebooks

Advantages: Built-in webcam, huge number of ports, clever function buttons, media button panel, nice screen
Disadvantages: Basically none except that it is slightly heavy because it contains a lot!

Disadvantages: Gamers might regret buying device that's not as performing as they might want

...This Laptop is a good value for it's money's worth. Equipped with a Intel Duo chip going at 2.0 Ghz speed, this laptop also has the advantage of 1 Giga Ddram (expandable up to 4 Giga DDRAM), a large 17" screen, a 150 Gigabytes Samsung HDD (it is also equipped with internal space for an additional HDD). It's a very light device, not as heavy as most of his class. As for the video board, it uses a 512 MB ATI video board, making it possible to see movies decently, if You are connected to the electrical power (battery lasts only 3 hours maximum). All in all, if You are not a gamer and do not require maximum visual performance, this device is one of the best of its type and I definitely would recommand it to all friends....

Advantages: Great all rounder, fast, durable and good pricing, value for money
Disadvantages: Some minor problems like power cable sometimes not recognised

...The dell Vostro 1700 is a good piece of technology. It have used it now for 6 months roughly and the thing i find great about dell's computers is their durability even when kept turned on for long hours (sometimes a couple of days in my case!!). This laptop is powerful and has a good quality screen that does not get marked easyly, unlike the other new laptops from dell, where the screen gets marked easyly due to the ultra clean and shinyness of it. I reccomend this product if you need a laptop to go, with a wide screen, full keyboard (includes the extra numbers like on the normal keyboard) and you will be using it for things like word processing, internet browsing, website development and more! All types of home and small business uses are covered with this decent laptop. However i do not reccomend this if you intend to use...

Dell all in one

Advantages: Scanner is eay to use

...I got my laptop from dell which has served me well for about 3 years now. Since I bought my computer from dell, I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to buy a printer as well. Besides it was quite cheap and I felt it was a good bargin being an all in one printer which could scan, print and copy. The good side is that the scanning features are user friendly and work quite well. However, the down side which really makes this product a bit of a let down is that the print quality is poor, much worse than a photocopy. I couldn't use it for any of my school work. The ink finishes quickly and in a day I had bought two cartridges which are not available in most shops. The tri-color single cartridge is actually a disadvantage because the printer mixes the three colours to produce a 'black' print which doesn't really appear black. Also...

All you'd want from a business class laptop

Advantages: Fast, good value for money, robust, professional looking, quiet

I snatched up the vostro 1720 in a dell sale, with the free TPM module and Wifi upgrade. So it was a delightful saving for me and gave me an extremely powerful machine. With 4gb of ram and a dual core processor I haven't had a single time where the computer couldn't handle having publisher, excel, word and powerpoint open at the same time. The graphics card handles some basic CAD files I'm sent from time to time without an issue, and excel calculates things really quickly I must say. Inspiring Inspiron from Dell

...The Dell Inspiron 1545 is an easy to use entry level laptop. Unlike two years ago when I bought my previous laptop, you can now get a number of Dell computers (of which this is one) direct from high street retailers. This is good if you want it in a rush and want a nearby place to handle any issues, but has the disadvantage that you can't customise your laptop to your own requirements to the same extent that you can if you buy it direct from Dell (which takes several weeks). Because Dell are so good at allowing customisation, you need to be very careful when you buy that you actually get the one you need - they are not all the same, so you can't just go into a shop and say "Give me your Inspiron 1545" - you need to be sure that it e.g. has a suitable processor, enough memory and a big enough hard drive for your needs.
