Dells Flagship - The XPS M1710

Advantages: More power than your Lap needs, Front Media control, Mood lighting
Disadvantages: Very heavy, poor battery life, gets very warm

...If you always mobile like me and need the processing power of a desktop on your legs than the XPS is for you!! To me the XPS is more light a mobile cinema than a laptop. It features a very high quality crystal clear display, front media control, high quality audio speakers and 16 colour lights, yes that right! the XPS has multi-coloured lights emitting from the front, side and back of the unit, just to set the mood. Unfortuently having lighting fast components , large storage capacity and high quality audio and video does add up a fair bit of weight and heat. And of course the battery doesn't last long. Dell XPS M1530 laptop

Advantages: Great feature set, fast, GFX card, HDMI out
Disadvantages: keyboard/touchpad could be better

...I recently had a motherboard failure on my existing Dell Inspiron laptop and given its age, repair looked a bad move as one could buy a new laptop for less. However, once I decided to see what was available and given my two main criteria - a higher than usual resolution screen and three year warranty, I suddenly found the price spiraling upwards. After much searching I settled on an XPS M1530. The price on the Dell web site was around £1000 but a phone call to Dell resulted in quite a dramatic price cut to reflect my 'loyalty as a customer' and that it was a replacement for a failed (nearly four year old) unit. They probably won't thank me for saying what I paid but it was a done deal and a few days later it arrived. ...I bought this laptop 4 months ago in June 2008 and I have been very impressed with it so far. The design is stylish and sleek and there are enough colour options to please most people. The best thing about Dell is that you can customise your laptop to your own optimum specifications so I opted for the best quality screen for watching video files and DVDs and upgraded the memory and processor to improve the performance of games. So far I have had no major problems although the charger adaptor has recently failed. Heavyweight Champion of the World!

Advantages: very powerful, huge graphics capability, robust

...Spectacular: This laptop has a fantastic set of speakers for a portable machine, and it even has a built-in subwoofer for good bass sound. Very little distortion occurs, even at very high volumes which is impressive for a notebook PC. There are a load of LED lights on the fan vents, the mousepad, the speaker covers and the outer case which can be made to change colour and flash in a huge variety of ways, even in time with Windows Media Player or iTunes, which is cool. The overall look of the XPS is very funky, with a machined aluminium cover that can be replaced with a variety of different colours. A Tool for any Job: The M1710 is covered in USB ports (2 on the left hand side and 4 on the back) making it easy to plug in a whole range of accessories. Dell XPS M1330 = BRILLIANT

Advantages: Excellent Screen, built-in webcam, very fast, never crashed (after 1 year, that's incredible)
Disadvantages: Slightly short battery life (but can easily be upgraded for very little money)

...This is a brilliant machine! I got mine with 4gb memory and a 250gb hard drive. I do all my coursework on this machine, but also use it as my games machine. EASILY runs both iTunes and The Sims 3 (a high RAM demanding game) at the same time. Excellent audio and visual quality with amazingly high volume potential speakers. Also has capacity for a 3G mobile broadband card (sim card like). Also, the design is very cool. I have the Product RED one, so mine is red color. Besides the color, Dell really took care on the design. It is just so pretty. To be honest, I don't really know about the OS and anything like that. But, as far as the speed of the laptop is concerned, it works so great! I never had any unexpected shutdown or close of a program. Since I upgraded to Windows 7, my battery life has increased, and my operating speed has sped up...

...i originally bought this laptop to get away from the desk and had high hopes for the XPG gaming Range of the Dell notebook range.... it doesnt disapoint. the keyboard is nice to touch and easily cleanable due to its chassis material, the design of the notebook is highly attractive, doesnt look bulky or ugly and comes in various colours (IIRC) my one is in silver and looks superb. everything is integrated, from the DUAL (yes dual!) headphone sockets, mic port, webcam, even has a mic included into the body! the accessories that came with it are also pretty cool, screen wipes, creative Ep-630 Headphones, case, a whole bundle of various CD's and the remote control is also a sweet item, being able to control music from the control is awesome!...

A year on...

Advantages: It's a fast and powerful gaming laptop
Disadvantages: It is HEAVY and very expensive!

...Okay, I've owned mine for nearly a year. So, has it lost it's shine? Not in my book! My last laptop was an entry level and struggled with any sort of game. I looked around for something a little more substantial and noticed the XPS. It was just about to be released and I like new toys. The best bit about buying from Dell is the fact you can customise just about everything. I upgraded the processor speed (2 x 2.16Ghz in a laptop!) and got a gig of RAM. It came as standard with 100Gb hard drive and a nVidia GeForce Go 7900GS video card. My only gripe was that it comes preloaded with loads of trial software, but that's easily removed. I actually used the McAfee 90 day trial suite. Hey, three months free? Nice. Onto performance, this is a monster of a machine. The screen is huge and yes, the pretty side lights do add to the cool...
