St Deny's, the clean hotel for my dirty weekend!

Advantages: Polite and helpful staff, clean hotel.
Disadvantages: Bed a bot on the small side for my husband.

...After an incredible weekend away with my darling husband to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary, I have now decided to do my first and quite possibly my last hotel review! Our destination of choice for this excursion was to be a place new to us, so of course the hotel had to be in a prime location at a price we could afford?fortunately we seemed to fall on our feet so to speak on both of these points. Our destination, to be exact was York, and due to the sheer number of attractions available to us, we wanted a hotel reasonably central, or at least within walking distance of the few sights we wished to see. After some extensive research, mostly through the designated York tourist board site, we came across the perfect hotel. Advantages: You'll laugh til it hurts
Disadvantages: erm, your sides will really hurt......

...This 2 disc set comprises of 2 live shows, 2 song videos, a 'the making of' and alot of crude, disturbed and sometimes down right nasty rants by the most amazing comedian ever, and i absolutely love it!!!!!!!! A Food Lovers' Paradise, whatever the Season

Advantages: seasonal recipes, lovely writing style, great pictures
Disadvantages: you still have to do the cooking yourself! perhaps a little expensive

A quote from the Guardian describes the cafe thus: "Here is a restaurant which treats food with wit, knowledge, spirit and enjoyment...it just happens to be vegetarian". The same could be said of Paradiso Seasons. The cover of the book reflects its contents- it's a gorgeous green cover that perfectly coveys the simplicity of the concept and the freshness of both the idea of the book, and the ingredients Denis Cotter uses. Never believe anything until it's officially denied

Advantages: The truth is out there
Disadvantages: But you have to want to find it

...Burchett's reporting on the effects of radiation on the Japanese just after Hiroshima, what he clearly didn't grasp because he too marched into ground zero soon after, but soon realising by looking at the survivors and desolate carnage something was very wrong. The Americans denied for years after that the blast radiation could cause cancers and catastrophic genetic failure, which it clearly did, but the bomb a human experiment for just that reason, no different to Dachua in Burchett's eyes. Edward R Morrow has a piece on the infamous McCarthy hearings in the book, portrayed superbly in the film 'Goodnight and Good Luck' by the excellent David Straithern. Jessica Mythords piece on Vietnam is interesting because it draws comparisons with Iraq on how America started that war by claiming their destroyers were attacked by the North Vietnamese...

...I found this item a couple of days after one of the most disappointing dinners I have made. I had bought what appeared to be a lovely piece of braising steak, cooked it - as I have on numerous occasions - only to find that I could probably have used it very successfully to mend shoes! The Deni Meat Tenderizer is a small utensil, approximately 15cm x 11cm x 3.5cm (6" x 4.3" x 1.4") - as it is an irregular shape it is impossible to give exact measurements. It is made of white plastic and stainless steel and for a small item is quite heavy. It has 48 very sharp stainless steel blades which are protected by a frame and there is a plastic case which covers this. To use, you remove the cover (of course) and gently press the tenderizer over the piece of meat or fish. When you press it down, the blades emerge from the housing...
