Reviews of dermablend
As approved by the Red Cross
Review of Dermablend Leg and Body Cover by
mrswombat
Advantages: Covers - completely
Disadvantages: not great on very dry skin
...This stuff is quite simply the best range of concealers on the market - and the leg and body cover is my favourite of the collection. Dermablend *covers*. It's used by organisations such as the Red Cross to help people cover operation scars and port wine stains as the like. It will cover the darkest tatoo - so you can be certain it will obliterate a little spot or dark circle! Although this product is called 'leg and body' it's also the best in the range for the face for people with normal to oily skins - the face products are just too greasy for my liking. The blurb on the packet tells you that you must use their own sealing powder - that's rubbish unless you do want it to be absolutely waterproof (like for hours of swimming). Otherwise any old face powder or even talc (on the body) will do fine. There is a knack to applying this - you...

Pass me a jumper
Review of Dermablend Leg and Body Cover by
AlexW
Advantages: covers scars, tattoos, birthmarks
Disadvantages: expensive, not suitable for all
...of your hand and then press onto the area to be covered, you then press on the powder.
SO does it work? Well as I said before I used it on my arms which also happen to have a number of moles, once applied you could not see the moles so yes it does give a good level of cover. Unfortunately for me as my scars are quite old they have faded to white, dermablend is not suited to covering white scars as they still end up visible, unless you put a 2 inch thick layer on (which lets face it attracts attention and defeats the object really).
If you have keloid scars (still in the red, itchy stage) then yes this will work wonders but for my type it was useless.
I also found that it is quite thick and your skin needs to be well moisturised beforehand too. It does mean that it stays put very well though, easily lasts the full day and through...

Remember to pack more carefully
Review of Estee Lauder Eye & Lip Make-up Remover by
unixgirl
Advantages: shifts all make up even coverage make up for scars etc
Disadvantages: not exactly cost effective
...!
Well the real test of it came not long after and I was at a job interview and having been in an accident a few months previous I was still a bit embarassed about the scars and bruising I had (not exactly the look you want to project when going for an interview for a job with a top company!). I had to travel to my interview and thought I had packed things carefully as I would have to stay in a local hotel overnight before returning home. I put Dermablend over the bruising and scars which disguised them beautifully and went off to the interview. I came back and fancied a swim but knew I should take the Dermablend off before swimming, Dermablend sell a separate remover for their stuff which is quite powerful (the make up can withstand, heat, sweat, and even getting wet if set properly). Well I'd forgotten the special cleanser, I had a few...

Vitiligo
Review of Everything that starts with V ... by
Tickly
Advantages: none
Disadvantages: see op
...there is no pigment on the scalp - no colour in the hair. Rather than being grey, it's an extremely bright white! Eyelashes are the same, I regularly have to dye them to stop myself looking like a six foot rabbit!
Think about how this affects people of multi-race, it's distressing enough for me as a white woman, but it's easier to disguise for me. Don't even think about going out in the summer without a sun block/decent SPF cream on. This is like throwing petrol on a fire and expecting it wont light.
***camouflage - Dermablend Cream***
Were back to the begininning again, where I went to the hospital to see the specialist. The two specialists I seen that day were not at all patronising and keen to help me get the hang of applying this camouflage cream. This is a bit of an art, and a lot of practice! First of all, they recommended I use two...

I LOOK 10 YEARS YOUNGER (Steamy mirror?!!)
Review of Max Factor Colour adapt Foundation by
Louizalass
Advantages: Looks natural
Disadvantages: The pump dispenser
...amount of Dermablend Reflections foundation, applied with a brush, over my cheeks. But the Colour Adapt is light, creamy and brightens the skin-tone. I wouldn't swap it for anything else! Those of you who don't suffer with facial thread veins will find this foundation has perfectly adequate coverage.
My only 'con' comment is I don't like the pump dispenser. I found with my first bottle that I probably had enough for at least another 7 applications but once that plastic pump stops sucking up up the foundation, nothing, but nothing will let you at the contents. Also, because you need so little, it's a bit of a science trying to judge the correct pressure on the pump, otherwise you load up too much and either have to waste it or put more on the skin than you actually need, which rather spoils the effect. Also, with the pump dispenser, when...

I'M ALL LIT UP!
Review of Boots No.7 High Light Illuminating Lotion by
Louizalass
Advantages: Softens flaws. Complexion glows
Disadvantages: The pump dispenser
...on the light', because I used it under my foundation yesterday when we had a dark, miserable day and really, I couldn't see my usual glowing complexion. Light certainly seems to play a big part in the success of this product.
So today, with the weather still rather dull, I decided to use the lotion on its own (very brave). This I did, and I didn't succumb to overdoing it. Whoever said "less is more" was absolutely right. For mature women in particular, a natural glow with light coverage is the target.
For some time now, I have been troubled with broken capillaries on my cheeks, and usually try to cover them up with an extra dollop of foundation on that area, and have even used Dermablend (too thick). Something strange happens after using High Light lotion … the redness on my cheeks, somehow looks natural rather than, well, broken veins! I...

FLAWLESS SKIN - JUST A BRUSH STROKE AWAY?
Review of Lily Lolo Mineral Cover Up by
Louizalass
Advantages: Easy to apply. Good coverage with a natural finish
Disadvantages: Matte finish which is too dull for mature skin
...associate with over-indulgence in gin but as I don't drink I can only assume it comes with the territory after exposing my English Rose complexion to a harsh and unforgiving Scottish climate for the past thirty years, despite daily smotherings of moisturiser and foundation. Oh yes, and age! Trying to cover up those little red veins with an extra layer of foundation just wasn't working. I've tried other specialist cover ups like Dermablend but found them to be far too thick and heavy.
Because Lily Lolo offer very reasonably priced samples I reckoned that at 99p for a quarter teaspoon sample packed in a little Ziploc bag (which is enough for a good few days experimentation) then I wouldn't break the bank if the product didn't work.
***What Lily Lolo says about Cover Up***
Conceals blemishes and gently smoothes away imperfections. More...

Rimmel cool matte mousse - its not a dessert!
Review of Rimmel Cool Matte 16Hr Mousse by
miss_d_bus
Advantages: doesnt make my skin greasy, no transfer, great texture, nice smell
Disadvantages: coverage not enough
...it felt clean. I have yet to see whether or not this product breaks me out but so far it seems to be living up to the claim of "pure complexion".
* texture and coverage - the mousse definitely felt light and soufflé like and the skin felt silk like. It blended in perfectly and gave a good flaw-less coverage up to a point. Being realistic, its not possible to cover up spots with a foundation unless its a specialist make-up like Dermablend and even that can't flatten out bumps! The product is marketed as a light coverage foundation though so one should not be surprised if it does not go on opaque. Being a light coverage product, its not going to cover big skin imperfections and give a flawless look. However, when it was applied, it did not look heavy like I was a 13 year old just discovering make up and plastering it on with trowel. It did...
