  Shopping West Yorkshire Style

Advantages: A great fully enclosed shopping centre
Disadvantages: no M and S (yet)

...WHITE ROSE CENTRE We recently found ourselves on the M62 heading back towards Manchester near Leeds and in need of a long break. Although not totally clear what it was, we saw the brown shopping basket signs and the arrow off the motorway to the White Rose Centre. Within minutes we had gone round a few roundabouts and an entrance to the White Rose Centre was on our left. Not knowing which was the best car park for the site we followed the car in front, which took us into Car Park 6. This also happened to be a good car park for the disabled as there were a lot of reserved disabled spaces and the entrance to the centre had a large shop mobility office. A first impression of the White Rose doesn't compare with the Trafford Centre in Manchester or Meadowhall in Sheffield, but this could be because the local road network doesn...

...the north and other big ones like the Meadow Hall; Sheffield and Merry hill; West Midlands. Why do we need all these shops, yes its exciting to visit them but they soon become exactly the same of all the other shopping malls, with the same shops repeated over and over again and when we get use to them we search for other new shopping centres and while we do we return to the traditional famous high street shops we are all use to. If the truth be known, most of us tend to drop the idea of big malls and enjoy the high street shops like Stratford upon Avon; Shrewsbury; Nottingham; Birmingham and Derby city, to name a few. Yes these towns do have the additional indoor shopping centres, but we only tend to shop indoors during the winter weeks, which we do not get anymore. London has got to be the role model of the popular high street shopping...

The Standing Stones of North West Wales

Advantages: Well-written, well-researched

...The Standing Stones of north western Wales by Michael Senior is, at 96 pages, a relatively slim volume. But what it lacks in size it makes up for by the breadth and depth of the knowledge that Michael Senior manages to fill this book with. Unlike far too many people in this field, Senior does not make unwarranted assumptions or presumptions. He gently chides (with good humour, it has to be added) some of the other researchers and writers. He cites, as an example, a notice erected by the ancient stone avenue at Avebury, in distant Wiltshire: "'This monument', states a notice at the stone avenue of Avebury, 'was erected in about 3,000 BC, for a unknown religious purpose.'" But Senior remains unconvinced by such guesswork. He goes on to say: "If un know, one immediately wants to ask, why assume it was religious?" Senior argues...

The store is located on Eastcote High Street which is a quite posh and upmarket area of North West London. I have visited this restaurant on a number of occasions including birthday and ordinary family celebrations at this venue. Located to the right of this shop is painting and decorating shop and to the left is a stationery shop. The thing other than the local and convenient access for myself in Eastcote is that I have really been taken in by the high standards of service throughout the meal ordering and serving process. Wanted - Ancestors in the north west of England!

Disadvantages: Not fully comprehensive, otherwise none

...with a simple map of the county demonstrating that Lancashire once extended to Liverpool in one direction and north towards the Lake District in another. For those who would like to get actively involved, the next link on the list is headed Volunteer Opportunities - I did attempt this once and discovered that transcribing records just wasn't amongst my strengths, but it might suit some people better than others and I think it's a good idea to encourage visitors to interact with the site and help to increase the number of available records. ...Advantages: Loads of stuff available, good prices Disadvantages: can get busy at christmas time so much so people abandon their shopping I am a huge Asda fan, it's where I do most of my shopping and I know where everything is which makes it easier when dragging 3 kiddies along with you! In my local Asda we have a photo centre, cafe, George, electricals, homewear, toys, bakery, pizzaria, rottisary (chicken place lol), fresh meats counter and all the usual foody aisles plus we have a petrol station, cash machines and bus stop. It's the largest shopping store we have although we do have a Tesco, Lidl, Aldi, Co-Op, Farm Foods and Iceland. I have never had a bad experience with Asda and the stock is usually replenished quite quickly! They have such a huge range that I know I can do my weekly shop and more there. Everything...
