Haven's Devon Cliffs - Not worth the money

Advantages: pools, adventure golf, good choice of food
Disadvantages: disgusting beach, too far from decent seaside town, accomomadation, too hilly

...For the last 3 years we have been to a Haven site, the previous 2 years we went to Golden Sands in Mablethorpe and thoroughly enjoyed it so this year we thought we would try somewhere different. As Devon Cliffs is Havens "flagship park" we thought we would try it. It looked spectacular in the brochure and we were really looking forward to it. What a disappointment! The park itself is far too big, too many caravans for the size of the entertainment complex. The pools were excellent however although the outdoor pools are so much smaller than they look on the website although the lockers cost you a £1 which is non refundable so if you leave something in the locker it will cost you another £1. The beach was absolutely disgusting, We are very much a beach family and there is no way on this earth we would use the beach on the site. It was...

Devon Cliffs

Advantages: cheap, clean
Disadvantages: not much entertainment

...This is a Haven holiday park near Exmouth in Devon. Some friends invited me there, and I thought, yeah, OK, I would go because it was cheap, but I wasn't really expecting it to be that good. However, when I got there, I was pleasantly surprised. We were staying in a caravan which was surprisingly comfortable and well furnished, and overlooked the beach. There were plenty of shops and restaurants on the site, so I didn't go hungry! The only real drawback was the lack of entertainment there. However, it made a good base to go out and visit other places and theme parks in the area. Good places to visit are The World of Country Life, which is just outside the front gate, and Escot House, which is about 20 minutes away by car. Crealy Adventure park is also good for kids....

Haven Holidays Devon Cliffs

Advantages: Good views - close to the beach
Disadvantages: not camper friendly

...We have recently returned from a camping trip to Devon Cliffs, the setting is wonderful, the camping field overlooks the beach with views stretching to Dawlish and beyond. Myself and four children arrived at the camping field to be greeted with around a dozen full 1100L wheel bins at the entrance, overflowing with waste and attracting a very large colony of wasps. The car park was a free for all as each family tried to park as near to the fields gate as possible as no cars are allowed on the camping field. This means that all the items in a very overloaded car have to be carried to the pitch. The whole excercise of setting up took me well over two hours, with countless trips to the car and back, exhausting!! Once set up, the view from outside our tent was wonderful, we enjoyed our stay, we made use of the camps entertainment...

Review of Haven Holidays

Riviera Bay Holiday Park, Brixham, Devon

Advantages: Active pensioners and seagulls will love it
Disadvantages: No help if you're disabled

...hundred yards from the entertainment complex. Most nights as we lay there trying to get to sleep, we had to endure the rowdy sounds coming from the nightclub, which went on until after midnight. This would then be accompanied by the drunken sounds of people tottering out of the club and walking directly past our window, laughing and singing noisily. Too bad if you wanted an early night, especially as we weren't getting much sleep on the uncomfortable beds. We've stayed at several caravan parks in Devon over the years, and have also stayed at the sister sites owned by the same company that runs Riviera Bay. We've never had complaints before about any of them. But the basic accommodation on this site can't be recommended. Most of the people staying in the cheaper chalets were elderly, perhaps because these are a cheap option if you have to...

Appledore - a jewel in the Devon crown

Advantages: Friendly people, lovely views, quaint cottages, summers
Disadvantages: Bit of a ghost village in the winter

...I can hear you all saying 'Appledore? Never heard of it.' Well, neither had I until just over 5 years ago. How I came here. My family have always favoured North Devon and Cornwall for UK holidays and we had all spent many happy weeks in these areas relaxing and wishing that we didn't have to go back to our humdrum daily lives. Like many we'd trawled the local papers whilst on holiday, checking out the job and housing situation, and like most we'd return home with regret and dream of our next holiday. Well, everything changed for the whole family within the short space of 18 months. In that little time slot my husband, both my parents and my grandmother died leaving only my brother's family and my family to carry on. It was a devastating time for all of us and one which made my brother and myself take stock of our lives...

Saltram House, Devon.

Advantages: Lovely parkland and gardens, house.
Disadvantages: None.

...I live fairly close to Saltram House which is a property owned by the National Trust. It is great being so near as it is possible to visit fairly frequently for a short period, or spend longer depending on mood. The house is impressive, the gardens are beautiful and there are lots of walks around the grounds. Location Saltram is situated in Plympton which is in Devon. It is high above the River Plym, surrounded by woodland. The address is Saltram, Plympton, Plymouth, Devon, PL7 1UH. I would use a route planner if unfamiliar with the area as it is not on a main route. It is not far from Plymouth itself though being just on the outskirts, it is 3 and a half miles East of Plymouth City Centre. The entrance is in Plympton and there are brown National Trust signs as a guide and the entrance has magnificent pillars. Parking...

The Leas Cliff Hall

Advantages: Lots of shows to choose from, excellent security
Disadvantages: None

...I have been to the Leas Cliff Hall on several occasions to watch bands such as Embrace and Pink Floyd tribute bands. I have also attended the musical Fame at this location. The Leas Cliff Hall There is one main arena at the Leas Cliff Hall and this consists of a large stage, with an open hall area in front on it. At the back of the hall, there are stairs which lead to upper stalls although the seating is fairly limited with only two rows all the way round. During the concerts that I have attended, there have been no seats laid out and visitors are left to stand in the large open hall area where they can view the band on stage. The only seating available is the higher seating around the outside of the hall. When I attended the musical Fame, the Leas Cliff Hall had been laid out in a completely different style. Rows of seats had been...

haven at devon cliffs

Advantages: all on the park
Disadvantages: very hilly park

...July of this year I visited Devon cliffs Holiday Park in Exmouth. As we entered the park I was pleasantly surprised how much it looked like the brochure, wow!!!! We proceeded to the reception to get our keys ( a slow process I have to say, but they were very busy so we will let them off!!) THE CARAVAN... Very nice... 3 bedrooms, nice size kitchen and a balcony with patio table and chairs. There was plenty of car space too with room left for the kids to play ball. THE PARK..... So much to do where do I start, we start at the reception and work our way round ( you get a map, but its a little hard to understand). So... we have a reception( very nice), a well stocked shop ( very expensive),a launderette (boring, but essential),a joke shop, sweet shop, photo shop and a place to buy various tickets for tours etc. There is 3...

Bempton Cliffs, East Yorkshire

Advantages: A lovely natural wonder, lots of wildlife
Disadvantages: Not fully accessible for disabled visitors, admission charges

...Bempton Cliffs can be found on the east coast of Yorkshire just outside the small village of Bempton, which is off the Bridlington to Flamborough road. This whole area is now a nature reserve that is owned and managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). There can be few people that have been here that can deny that Bempton Cliffs are a spectacular sight. They are characterised by their chalk-white appearance and they rise vertically from the sea to the cliff tops. They are just as impressive from the top of the cliffs looking downwards as they are from below looking upwards. These limestone sea cliffs stretch for over 3 miles (5 kilometres) and have an average height of 86 metres above sea level. They are the highest sea cliffs in England and they are home to one of the largest sea bird colonies in the British...
