A decent but basic 2 star hotel near Bournemouth Pier

Advantages: Good value for money and good location.
Disadvantages: Based on the price, none.

...heating radiators, but also had openable windows which looked out on to the sea. Good wardrobe space, a dressing table and draw space. The bed was comfortable enough and the linen and pillows were of a good standard. The restaurant/bar was reasonable and the staff on reception were polite and helpful. I did not have a car but there was some car parking space outside but I don't know if this would incur an extra charge. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from Bournemouth pier and a similar distance from Bournemouth town centre. Its abour 2 Km from Bournemouth Railway Station. Hotel stays in Bournemouth are quite expensive so I'd recommend The Russell Court as one of the better value 2 star hotels to stay at....

Top class hotel in South Devon

Advantages: great rooms, nice staff, fantastic food, lovely gardens
Disadvantages: can be expensive and surrounding roads v.narrow

...OVERVIEW: I recently returned from a week long trip to Cornwall. To breakdown the amount of continuous driving that I would have to do we decided to stop overnight in Devon on the way back. The Buckland Tout Saints Hotel is situated in Goveton in the heart of the south Devon countryside, two miles from Kingsbridge. The hotel itself is a sixteenth century manor house, containing sixteen bedrooms. The original building is over 300 years old, but the hotel and rooms have been modernised several times and the décor is sensational. It is set in 4.5 acres of grounds and is said to be one of the top 200 hotels in Britain. We booked the hotel through lastminute.com and believed it to be a three star hotel, we were therefore very surprised upon arrival to have the main doors opened for us and our cases sent straight up to our room. The hotel is...

The Star Hotel - An absolute Gem!

Advantages: Food - Staff - Location - Everything
Disadvantages: NOTHING !

...Just back from a wonderful stay at The Star hotel in Kingussie. We stayed for a 5 night break in Sept. and cannot find fault. We were welcomed by the owner, and shown to our room. Good size, with large double bed, nice dressing table & warbrobe with plenty of space for all our walking gear. Tea & Coffe making facilities aswell as an iron & hairdryer. You can have the option of having a bath or shower, we chose bath, which was huge! Ample car parking behind the hotel which also doubles as a little beer garden. Breakfast & dinner included in price...and to be honest we have never eaten so much in our lives!!! Absolutely amazing especially for the price! A full range of choices for breakfast, fruits, cereals & of course porridge! Orange juice on tap! Once you've devoured that, a full breakfast menu to choose from...from the full...

Lego Star Wars- The Video Game, for ps2 - Fun for all ages!

Advantages: Good WHOLESOME Family FUN - ITS Star Wars !! simple and addictive
Disadvantages: none really - my be a little tame for more serious/grown up gamers??Thats all

...I think my son was a pretty late starter when it comes to video gaming . I bought a ps2 for the house in 2007 when my son was 6 years old and part of the deal was that I got to choose two free games with it. ...Knowing my son has a ton of lego which he plays with all the time! and Star Wars being WELL, Star Wars! I chose Lego Star Wars the video game as one of the games for my new family console. Before that moment ,my son knew very little -if anything about star wars but that was about to change! Now lets get to the game. The game begins in Dexters Diner. Dexters Diners is where you begin the game each time you switch it on. Here you choose which episode you want to play a scene from, providing the door to the scene and episode has been unlocked. You will see that there are 6 doors leading from Dexters Diner. 2...

The Star Hotel, Kingussie

Advantages: Great Value for Money
Disadvantages: Nothing

...My Husband and I have just returned from The Star Hotel, the hotel while being old fashioned it is extremelly clean and the staff very helpful and pleasant, the food is excellant I defy anyone to find better value for the money, the day before I arrived I injured my back and the girl on reception called Tanya kept heating my back pad in the microwave oven for me, she is a little treasure, on our second day we booked to return in March 2009 and we are looking forward to it, yes the hotel has no lifts but that is no problem, the portions of the food given are exceptional I'm sure I've put a stone on in the four days we were there. It is in a great location for seeing all other local sites, I can really recommend going to see the Reindeers just outside Aviemore a truly great experience...

Six star service from a 4 star hotel.

Advantages: Close to all the sites and sounds of Venice.
Disadvantages: It is a bit on the expensive side.

...Hotel Al Ponte Antico. Venice. The hotel Al Ponte Antico is a four star hotel in the centre of Venice. It is situated on the Grand Canal near the Rialto Bridge and has spectacular views of the bridge from the balcony. The hotel is part of a 15th century palace which has been lovingly restored by its current owner to its former glory. Each room is individually decorated in Louis XV period style elegance to a very high standard. There are only 9 rooms in the hotel which means that service is very personal and informal. The rooms contain the usual facilities such as minibar, Wi-Fi access, although we did not use it on this occasion, direct dial telephone, flat screen television and a superb bathroom with bidet and a multipoint shower. The bed was very comfortable. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by Oliver who made us most...

Two star hotel with one star service

Advantages: Location, decor
Disadvantages: Lights not working, no plugs for sink or bath, grumpy staff, noisy, poor food

...closed so that I could sleep. The fact that my only neighbours in the other room decide to have an argument at 3am in the morning also kept me awake, but I suppose these things happen even in five star hotels!! When I got up the next morning I made a bee line for the shower, only to find there was no shower, only a bath. It was then I found out there was no bath plug, there was no sink plug either, so with the prospect of having no ablutions, I had to 'cobble' together a make shift plug out of the soap packet they supplied!! On my way to the breakfast room I asked the lady in reception if she could organise two plugs & fix my lights. 'No problem sir, consider it done' she said. Breakfast was due to start at 7.30am, pity no one told the staff!! As I had a taxi booked for 8.15am I was a little anxious that by 7.45am they just starting to lay...

Old Macdonald had a 5-star Hotel - eee ai eee ai oh

Advantages: It's spectacular and surprisingly quiet and the best location in the city
Disadvantages: Parking, high prices.

...As a student at Oxford University in the late 1980s, the Randolph seemed like the physical embodiment of the class divide that afflicted poor kids like me who came from state schools from the much wealthier students who took the affluence and grandeur of the city's finest hotel entirely in their stride. I'd never been in such a grand hotel and the closest thing to a grand building in my home city was the local branch of Lloyds Bank. My flat mates' parents would arrive each term and take us out to the Randolph for rather staid Sunday lunches in the spectacular high ceilinged dining room where we'd sit and watch the world cycle by through the tall windows. By contrast my parents would visit bringing a bag full of fish and chips or a Chinese take-away. I can't really say that we enjoyed the Randolph that much more than a take...

Britain's Most Glamorous 5-Star Hotel!

Advantages: Super high-gloss telly drama, great cast, funny
Disadvantages: Nothing at all!

...Keith Allen, to Lisa Faulkener. But for me, it is the main cast of Outhwaite and Beesley which make the show so good, they're completely believable in their roles and have a great on-screen presence. The remaining cast are also superb, and together create a great ensemble cast. Its great entertainment which lets you escape into the world of five star hotels and its high-glos opulent feels makes it perfect escpist television! The first series of Hotel Babylon on DVD is available on Amazon for the price of £23.98. You get all 8 episodes which runs for a total for 471 minutes. Each episode is 1 hour long, so you can quite a lot of viewing for your money. The DVD is released by 2 Entertain Video in March 2007. It has a certificate of 15 due to some themes and language used. The second series is now also available on DVD. For more...

Appledore - a jewel in the Devon crown

Advantages: Friendly people, lovely views, quaint cottages, summers
Disadvantages: Bit of a ghost village in the winter

...I can hear you all saying 'Appledore? Never heard of it.' Well, neither had I until just over 5 years ago. How I came here. My family have always favoured North Devon and Cornwall for UK holidays and we had all spent many happy weeks in these areas relaxing and wishing that we didn't have to go back to our humdrum daily lives. Like many we'd trawled the local papers whilst on holiday, checking out the job and housing situation, and like most we'd return home with regret and dream of our next holiday. Well, everything changed for the whole family within the short space of 18 months. In that little time slot my husband, both my parents and my grandmother died leaving only my brother's family and my family to carry on. It was a devastating time for all of us and one which made my brother and myself take stock of our lives...
