Dysfunctional Dexter

Advantages: Very funny throughout
Disadvantages: storyline lacked bite and punch

I was unsure to be honest what I thought of it, so I was keen to try another one and see if the writers? style either grew on me or turned me off his work completely. Dear Dark Dexter...

Advantages: Interesting concept, unusual writing style
Disadvantages: Perhaps a bit slow at first

Intro Having decided that I needed some more books to read I consulted the charity book list at work (books for the bargain price of 25p) and came across "Darkly Dreaming Dexter". I was aware that there is a TV series called "Dexter", so consulted Amazon to see if this was the same thing, and found that it was! I haven't ever seen the TV programme but have heard good things about it and decided to give the book a go, as I'd found that "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" was the first in the series (I didn't want to come in having missed something) which is what the first series of the TV programme was based upon. Review of Darkly Dreaming Dexter - Jeff Lindsay

Dexter in the toilet!

Advantages: The price of the book is bound to become very cheap very soon!
Disadvantages: completely ruins the premise of the series!

...I was in two minds about writing this review, on the one hand, I have read the first two books and watched the first three seasons of the t.v. series, and loved every single minute of the whole lot, the stories, the characters, the murders, and Dexter himself, his story, why he kills, why he is a killer, Harry's code, his job etc... the fact that Jeff lindsay got me to do the impossible, which was actually understand and grow to be fond of a serial killer, astounded me. So up until this book, I would rate the entire series and books as high as any mark anything could get, until this book, and I am so thankful that the series did not mirror the book in anyway, shape or form, as this book completely ruined the book series for me. At this point I feel I need to say do not read on if you have not read this book and do not want to know...

Dearly Devoted Dexter

Advantages: Excellent humour and generally a good read
Disadvantages: quite gory in places!!

...This show has one of the most simple but exciting and unique premises for any programme I have seen in years. Originally based on a series of novels by Jeff lindsay, this was bought to the televsion by James Manos, Jr, who was writer and co producer for the first season of the Sopranos. Like the Sopranos, Dexter has a rather morbid plot. Meet Dexter Morgan, a blood splatter anyalyst that by day helps to track some of the worst serial killers in Miami, yet by night is serial killer himself. SUPER Dexter

Advantages: Fun for all audiences

...Yes, I admit it, I watch cartoons....sometimes. I'm not really into shows like 'Pokemon' or most of the junk out on today's TV. But when I happened to be channel surfing and stumbled onto Cartoon Network, I paused at Dexter's Laboratory. The thing that grabs me about this cartoon is the way it is funny for kids, yet has appeal for adults as well. I would say this is the modern day 'Rocky and Bullwinkle'. I find myself actually rolling around in mirth watching Dexter's antics to prove he is the smartest boy alive, and Deedee's accidental blundering that never fails to spoil Dexter's work. Dexter is a boy (about 6-8 I think...I never checked) who has a secret laboratory where he invents the most wonderful things. Dexter: Series one.

Advantages: great story, solid acting.
Disadvantages: more extras would have been nice.

...Micheal C Hall makes this series plain and simple. No other man could have done the Character of Dexter so well. His versatile acting skills have seen him through on this one. I heart Dexter

Advantages: amazing acting and special effects
Disadvantages: only 12 episodes - could watch it forever!

...do you like blood? no? do not watch this! luckily for me, i am not of the faint hearted so i did not miss out in this darkly delicious treat! Dexter works for the miami police department (along side his foster sister Deb, a cop) as a forensic blood spatter analyist. interesting huh? even more interesting is that Dexter is a serial killer, but not your average killer - he only disposes of people who are evil, this is the code he lives by - Harry's code. Harry is dexter's foster dad, all will become clear if you choose this box set - and you really should! the series follows Dexter in his emotionless life as the above. the acting in this is absolutly superb, the story lines begin unpredictable but do become a little easier to work out as the episodes go on - but not dissapointingly so as you will probably work them out so close to...
