GOOD POINTS: Michael C Hall is absolutely superb as Dexter and his performance gives credibility to what would otherwise be a completely ridiculous basis for a TV show. Dysfunctional Dexter

Advantages: Very funny throughout
Disadvantages: storyline lacked bite and punch

...Background: About nine months ago I read my first novel by Jeff Lindsay featuring an usual character called Dexter. I was unsure to be honest what I thought of it, so I was keen to try another one and see if the writers? style either grew on me or turned me off his work completely. Admittedly it took me long enough to get round to it. Since then I have even seen an episode of this on television. About the author: Jeff Lindsay was born in America on July 14th 1952. However I should point out this is not his real name, that is Jeffry P. Freunlich. Review of Darkly Dreaming Dexter - Jeff Lindsay

Slow and steady...Gordons Sloe GIN...

Advantages: Taste's sweet, refreshing, very moreish.
Disadvantages: very moreish...lol

...Gin is Gin right ? WRONG !! Recently I was introduced by a friend to Gordon's sloe gin, something I have never come across though brings to mind the Flavoured Absolut vodkas which are also really nice. It's the same kind of thing but Gin. I gave it a try (nope it didn't take much persuasion I like my spirits) and well - it's a really GREAT drink. The bottle is same as your regular screw top Gordon's Gin bottle but clear not green, the gin itself is a pretty deep-purple-red berry colour though still a clear spirit, not cloudy.. There is a faint pleasant smell of fruitiness along with the normal 'gin' smell, yes I always smell drinks before drinking?..still gin taste but there's also the definite fruity flavour of berries, it's sweet with a nice aftertaste?a bit moreish All this yummy tastiness is down to the sloe berries...

"Gordon's Alive?"

Advantages: Brian Blessed's in it shouting "DIVE" alot! And it's got the best soundtrack to a film... ever!
Disadvantages: Maybe to camp and colourful for some. Avoid if you lack a sense of humour or are looking for something high-brow.

...FLASH GORDON "Flash - a-ah - saviour of the universe. Flash - a-ah - he'll save every one of us." Or so the Queen soundtrack goes over the comic-book enriched title credits (something Spiderman 2 would later borrow). It serves to get the audience's toes immediately tapping in anticipation for the film to begin outright and, for some bizarre reason, coupled with the spandex pants, phallic shaped spaceships, an over-developed sense for bright, garish colours and Brian Blessed shouting "DIVE" to his birdman hordes whenever he gets the chance, Flash Gordon comes across as a deliriously brilliant, camp piece of outrageous space opera cinematics. Indeed, with these hallmarks, it's impossible to imagine a movie that's more innocently entertaining (only Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure seems to usurp Flash Gordon to such a title...

Review of Flash Gordon (DVD)

Dexter in the toilet!

Advantages: The price of the book is bound to become very cheap very soon!
Disadvantages: completely ruins the premise of the series!

...I was in two minds about writing this review, on the one hand, I have read the first two books and watched the first three seasons of the t.v. series, and loved every single minute of the whole lot, the stories, the characters, the murders, and Dexter himself, his story, why he kills, why he is a killer, Harry's code, his job etc... the fact that Jeff lindsay got me to do the impossible, which was actually understand and grow to be fond of a serial killer, astounded me. So up until this book, I would rate the entire series and books as high as any mark anything could get, until this book, and I am so thankful that the series did not mirror the book in anyway, shape or form, as this book completely ruined the book series for me. At this point I feel I need to say do not read on if you have not read this book and do not want to know...

Dearly Devoted Dexter

Advantages: Excellent humour and generally a good read
Disadvantages: quite gory in places!!

...Background: A friend of mine at work knows I love a good crime novel, so he told me to try a book by Jeff Lindsay. He told me I would either love it or hate it. So I thought I should give it a try, just to shut him up at the very least. About the author: Jeff Lindsay was born in the USA in 1952. Among his achievements are being a World Champion in Karate and a successful playwright. So far he has written four crime novels featuring Dexter Morgan as its main character. These are: Darkly Dreaming Dexter (2004), Dearly Devoted Dexter (2005), Dexter in the Dark (2007) and Dexter by Design (2008). Dexter - A man with a deadly secret

Advantages: Interesting and intriguing characters, good story, good acting

Advantages: Funny with grown up humour

Gordon Ramsay at Claridges

Advantages: Beautiful food, location and staff
Disadvantages: Expensive

...on Claridges Bar and the Gordon Ramsay restaurant as these were the two that we visited when we went there. Upon entering the hotel I was actually in awe of just how beautiful it is. It has a very elegant, sumptuous look to it with very clean lines and grand features. The Claridges Bar is situated in the Foyer Area. The style of the bar is a modern Art Deco look, think very lounge bar, dimly lit etc. There are quite a few tables to sit at with big comfy leather chairs and then there is also a round leather bar with mirror behind it which you can sit at on bar stools. There is a huge chandelier in the centre of the bar which is truly exquisite! We sat at the bar and immediately there was something offering to take our coats and to serve us a drink. Gordon's sloe gin - smooth and tasty

Advantages: Tasty, easier than making it yourself

...With the weather turning chilly and the first frosts arriving, it is once again the right time of year to go sloe gathering and make sloe gin. But for lazy people like me who don't want to risk poisoning themselves by picking the wrong little purple hedgerow fruit, there is always the option of buying some ready-made. Plus it has the advantage that you don't have to wait months for your hard work to come to fruition. As well as their regular green bottle of regular gin, Gordon's also have a sloe version costing £16.99 for a 70cl bottle, it is rather a lot more expensive than your typical gin. Plus at only 26% vol, it is much lower in alcohol content, meaning that per unit of alcohol, it is pretty pricey.
