Disadvantages: Take forever to arrive, go somewhere smaller and you can take your suite away

...My partner and I purchased a three piece suite plus footstool from here. It is a lovely suite in a really nice blue, very comfortable. When we went to the store (Cardiff) we were free to wander and try out all the suites we wanted. Once we had decided on the one we wanted we paid cash (£1400, a lot of money but good value for it, we thought) and the gentleman who served us was polite and friendly, and even did a little test with a mug of coffee to show the stain resistence of our suite! Since buying it I've spoken to several people about the good quality of their DFS suites. However, despite all this praise, I do have one problem: We were told the suite could take 12 weeks, when my partner asked 'what if it doesn't arrive within that time' the assistant said, to cover his back, he would write 14 weeks on the receipt! DFS - Somewhere in the Middle

Advantages: friendly staff, decent quality stuff
Disadvantages: No good for First Time Buyers

...or there is a requirement for a new one because the current one is battered and needs to be replaced. I've used DFS once, nearly twice and I wouldn't consider them to be a great company, however I would neither consider them a bad company they are somewhere in the middle. The first time I nearly used DFS, I was moving into my first home, I had picked a new three piece suite which I was so excited about, I feel that what sofa's you have in a room can either make the room or break it. We had been given a date to move into our new house and succesfully managed to secure a date with DFS for delivery of the new sofa, as things never run smoothly when moving property our date had moved back because the people we were buying the house off were dragging there feet. ...Where to start with DFS..... Just over three years ago I visited DFS with my wife because our sofa at home was coming to the end of it's extremely hard working life. We wandered around the showroom and were approached by extremely friendly salespeople asking if we knew what we were looking for. Many people don't like this I know but I personally prefer this type of approach. We found what we thought was a sofa that suited our needs and completed the relevant paperwork. Dfs Furniture Store

Advantages: Reasonable prices nice people
Disadvantages: Nish so far

...Now that my son is has grown past playing with plasticine and slopping food everywhere into playing with girls and slopping beer everywhere, and my dog is too old and fat to jump on the furniture, it is with a certain sense of irony that I regard my latest purchase in the suite department. DFS great value and good selection

Advantages: Lots of choice and flexible finance

...I am currently sitting on one of my two seater DFS sofas which i love. Its a modern design and is quite square and chunky with big arms. It keeps its shape well and always bounces back to the origional shape even after 4 years. I bought this set about 4 years ago, its cream leather and it also came with a footstool. Its really comfy especially if you use the footstool and after 4 years it still looks quite new. What amazed me was the choice in colours on this sofa, i think there was at least 10 differnt choices eg black, green,dark brown and a really bright red colour. The dark brown looked the best but i was out votted by my wife and the cream colour won. The leather seems to be hard wearing but still feels quite soft. It has a couple of scratches on it but these have been caused by our dog who seems to think its ok to sleep...

...Having recently purchased a new home I needed a couch, for me comfort is far more important than appearance, I need to feel like I can sink into the couch, not like I'm sitting on rock. After visiting a few sofa stores such as SCS, Furniture Village and Harvey's I was no better off, I found all their sofas either too expensive for what you got or too old fashioned. The appearance of many was also strange looking in some cases and offered very little colour variation. Luckily however DFS were at hand, I visited their Milton Keynes store hoping they would have something that would take my fancy. ...Looking for a sette for the conservatory so thought we'd pay DFS a quick visit, saw a lovely looking leather job in the local store, "yes that'll do nicely" we thought. It was one of the range of "natural" leather suites as opposed to the more common processed, polished plastic looking ones, which, the salesman pointed out, may mean, and I quote,"colour flaws in the leather", which was fine. 6 weeks later and off the lorry the lorry drives, leaving behind a suite bearing little or no resemblance to that shown in the store (yes we did query the quality of the goods, but the drivers absolutely avoided letting us inspect it until it had been bought inside - then told us to contact the store manager if we had a problem). Sitting Pretty

Advantages: stores all over the country, always a sale on, not too pushy, payment and delivery
Disadvantages: those annoying adverts, having to pay extra for everything

...I had been trawling through the various furniture stores and dedicated sofa shop since last summer and out of desperation even looked at the Argos catalogue. As I could only afford to pay a set amount of money I was limited to where I could ultimately shop. Also, I live in a modern flat which means small rooms and not a lot of room to place large pieces of furniture. In the end I made several trips to two DFS stores, the one in Watford and the other one in Brent Cross. The company, as annoying as they are for their adverts on radio and television, must be doing something right as they are currently celebrating their 40th anniversary.
