...Bose SoundDock Digital Music System I happened to get this as a gift and it turned out to be quiet interesting Summary: This dock is used mainly for ipod and allows you to connet mp3 players to it and listen to high quality music via speakers. It is idle for homes and small gatherings, although I would not run a party off these. Pros: This system has terrific sound and can go very load despite its relative small size. As with almost all Bose speakers the quality is amazing, so long as the source you are playing it from is high quality it will allow the speakers to each its potential. I have a surround sound Bose set up in one of my rooms but now prefer to use this product as it is very simple to operate. Just plug the mp3 player in and press play and your set. Cambridge Audio DVD player with HDMI

Advantages: HDMI Out, DIVX support, mp3 support
Disadvantages: Too many buttons on the remote! Slow eject button response.

...This stylish and reasonably priced DVD player from Cambridge Audio retails for approx £150. For a DVD player with HDMI (Digital) out, that is one of the more reasonable priced models on the market at the moment. The player will take a moment to recognise disks, but once it has found which format the disk is, I have found playback to be flawless. It can play normal DVDs (PAL), also DVDs from the USA (NTSC) and DIVX encoded video. Although I have not tried it, it can apparently play disks with mp3 music on them. If you need to set the unit up beyond just plugging in cables, then the basic on screen configuration is straightforward. You will need to refer to the manual for the advanced configuration of the unit (if you have a complicated or non-standard HiFi setup). I've tried the following: * DVD Video (Original Region 2 and Region 1 / movie on DVD-R) * DVD-R (With movie burnt to disc & DivX / Xvid / MPG / MP3 / JPG / WMA files, Nero Digital Audio DVD) * DVD-RW (With DivX 3.11, 4, 5 / Xvid / MPG / ASF / JPG) * CD-R (with DivX 4.02 / MP3) * VCD (Original / One made with Nero from a bunch of MPG files) * Audio CD * DVD+R (Por...I mean...movie on disc) The DVD-R discs I used were Ridisc DVD-R's with a G03 dye. I listen to lots of audio programs from Nightingale Connant Corporation, courses on Marketing, business and self help etc., and I like to take them out with me so that I'm not tied to the arm chair. Digital, it's the only way

...Last year, before I had my PC, I bought a CD Recorder, so having that I really didn't want to buy a PC CD Recorder, so what to do. Ok so you can plug in your Hi-Fi through the jack sockets on the PC, but you never seem to get the same sound quality, so whilst surfing the Sony website I came across the Sony CAV-U5. The CAV-U5 is a USB Digital Audio converter, this means that your MP3's or any other audio is passed from the USB port into a tiny box, converted and then sent to your Hi-Fi, Minidisc or CD Recorder via an Optical Cable. Now the only thing which is a shame is the cables supplied with the CAV-U5 are quite short, the USB cable is about 1.8m and the Optical cable is tiny about 0.6m, ok so that sounds like a lot of cable but if like me your equipment is over the other side of the room then it's move everything or buy some...

It is a DAW (digital audio workstation) with its own built in synths, drum machines, effects, mixers compressors, you name it its got it. For people not familiar with such terms, its basically a digital "band" in a box. You write music in it, apply effects (such as reverb,delay etc...) and put it all together in one program. It has an awesome look to it, it is laid out like analogue racks are in studios. This takes a bit of getting used to if you're a software only kinda guy/gal. You actually have to plug in the little animated leads into the back of, for example, the drum machine, out into the compressor or whatever. When starting up the camera, it isn't slow like they digital cameras of yesteryear. Its ability to capture anything in an instant is one of it's many advantages.
