Home Security
Review of First Alert Digital Plug In Timer LS570 by
linda-christine
Advantages: lots of features
Disadvantages: instructions not very clear
...I recently purchased a couple of timer switches, as I was going away on holiday and for security wanted some lights to switch on.
I previously had some timers but they were old and the type with the little pegs that go in the time segments. I found that many were missing so decided it was time to buy some new ones.
I purchases some First Alert Digital Timers (model number LS570UK)- I chose this brand as I was impressed with the smoke alarm I had purchased also manufactured by them.
The timers were £15.99 from my local Toolbank store, (also know as Curtis Holt) but a friend of my purchased one from Great Mills, so I assume they are widely available. The timers have a 1 year guarantee and a CE safety mark.
The timer has loads of functions (probably more than needed) but I was very impressed with two of them- The random time programme...

Cheap and not so nasty!
Review of KODAK DC215 Digital Camera by
Donns
Advantages: Easy to use interface.
Disadvantages: Uses up batteries very quickly.
...This digital camera came along with my computer package, probably the reason i was persuaded to purchase my PC. It is just a great camera you can edit, frame, delete, magnify your photos at the touch of a button using the small screen at the back of the camera. The only disadvantage is, that it uses batteries up very quickly. The camera is very user friendly the menu clearly shows you what to do, it also has a timer so that you can take photographs of yourself.
I would recommened this camera to anyone, from a novice to a professional photographer....

Not for me
Review of JENOPTIK JENDIGITAL JD C 350 by
Nelly43
Advantages: credit card size
Disadvantages: batteries go falat quickly
...I had always wanted a digital camera, it was almost like an obbsesion with me, i would go shopping and gaze longingly at all these wonderful cameras that were way out of my price range, until that is i found the Jenoptik JD 350 Digital Camera.
It was in my catalouge for £99.00 in the sale so i bought it.
It was a very compact and attractive little camera and also very easy to use so for a first timer like myself it was ideal. It has a self timer so that you can get a picture of yourself if you so wish, you can set the resolution for the type of picture you want, it also has a delete mode to remove last picture taken if required and it also has a web cam feature. The image resolution is 640x480 and the instruction manual that comes with it is very easy to understand also software easy to install. It takes 2aa batteries which i found didnt...

expensive and now obselete
Review of KODAK DC25 Digital Camera by
zef
Advantages: easy to use, good software package
Disadvantages: expensive batteries
...This camera cost £200 when new and the package included just the camera, cable and software. The software was quite extensive and included the excellent Photosuite and Kai's Powere Goo. The camera can take 14 high resolution and 22 standard. I recomend only to use high resolution. You can icrease its capacity by buying a seperate memery card though. We have no problems with it the pictures are good and clear, but batteries are expensive at £13 a pair.
Also there is a hand timer function so you can photograph yourself. Technical support from Kodak website is good but the DC25 has since been discontinued....

Pace Twin PVR
Review of Pace Twin Digital Terrestrial Hard Disk Recorder by
MartinImber
Advantages: Bit stream recording, ease of use
Disadvantages: Price, hard disk capacity
...This device is an excellent piece of kit, it is the first PVR on the UK market without a subscription.
Reviewed with October 2003 software.
It is a digital terrestrial device with two tuners and a 20GB hard disk. It is used for Freeview.
It can be used as a normal Freeview box while recording another channel, it is possible to watch a recording while recording a new one, or to pause live TV. It is great with commercial channels as you can start watching 5 minutes after the programme has started - then skipping through the adverts.
The box is very well featured, and has plenty of connections. It supports digital text - it is not quite as fast as the Pace DTVA but is much faster in use than a Sony IDTV and especially old Ondigital boxes. I have not yet filled up the timer list, I have repeats for weekday and weekly, timer settings can...

DX-10
Review of Fujifilm DX 10 Digital Camera by
BeckyAvery
Advantages: No processing
Disadvantages: None
...This is a fantastic little camera. I first bought it cause i was sick of pictures not coming out and not finding out until the films came back. With my little wonder box i was able to see straight away if my pictures were alright using the groovy little screen on the back. The best thing about it has to be the lack of film it make life so easy and i don't need to buy new ones all the time. It's got some great features including a timer, great for taking pictures of ones self!!!wink wink I would highly recommend this as a cheap but useful digital camera...

Hey good lookin', what ya got cookin' ?
Review of Sharp R654 by
cootuk
Advantages: does as it says on the box
Disadvantages: painted interior, 'cheap' build quality
....
The main thing that annoyed us was the timer.
This uses a digital timer, but limits you to timing to the nearest 10s. Our baby milk takes 45s to be perfect. So do we do it for 40s, or 50s, or stand by the machine and manually stop it?
Apparently only a few microwaves at twice the price can have the timer preset to the nearest second....to me this is a major step backwards-after all these are digital timers.
The timer is set by pressing up to three time buttons....10s, 1min, 10min.
My old microwave needs only four keypad presses to time any amount up to 99mins59s, but you can see the new one can need lots of key presses. In these days of digital timers it seems just really cheap to include three time buttons when a keypad can give you much more controllable times with fewer key presses. To us this was a major pain in the backside. Why have...

Close but not quite perfect
Review of Canon EOS 350D by
Calexcon
Advantages: Light and Easy to use
Disadvantages: No spot metering and irritating design flaws.
...The 350D is almost the perfect camera for the money but it has some irritating flaws which can be a little irritating
The absence of a Spot Metering option is a bit of a mystery as this is standard in smaller and cheaper models. It can be overcome but it is a specification flaw that canon should address.
The design of the sensor means that lens focal lengths have to be multiplied X 1.6. This is only a serious issue if you are an exponent of wide angle shots.
Not withstanding the above the most irritating issue is the position of the shutter option button. It sequentially selects single shot, multiple shot and timer. Unfortunately it is positioned just where my thumb rests even when using the Battery Grip. I have missed a few shots by accidentally setting the camera on timer mode. Even when familiar with this problem it takes a few...
