Carry On Spying

Advantages: very funny, well acted, entertaining, good story

...Carry On Spying is one of the best Carry On films, nicely balancing a good plot with some hilarious moments. It is also the first Carry On appearance for Barbara Windsor & one of her best. This spoofs all the usual James Bond, Mata Hari kind of genre, but with a reverence, so you are laughing at it, but it does not detract from the continuing plot of the film you are watching. The cast are excellent throughout, with Bernard Cribbins, Jim Dale & Dilys Laye making welcome reappearances. It is interesting, exciting & entertaining, as well as being very clever & funny. It basically has everything you could wish for & stands out as one of the best Carry On films ever made....

Carry On Cruising

Advantages: entertaining, well acted
Disadvantages: some of the regulars are missing

...Carry On Cruising was made in 1962 & was the last one to be written by Norman Hudis & the first one in colour ! This one is set - you might have guessed ! - on a boat, captained by Sid James. Kenneth Williams & Kenneth Connor form part of his crew, but many of the other regulars - Hattie Jacques, Joan Sims, Charles Hawtrey - are absent for this one. Instead we have Lance Percival as the chef, fitting in well with the rest of the cast, with the glamour aspect fulfilled by Liz Fraser (her second Carry On) & Dilys Laye. For me, the friendship & rivalry between these two women is the core of the film & they both play their roles excellently. Esma Cannon again has a captivating & memorable role, this time as Bridget Madderley. The film is entertaining & well worth watching....

Carry On gang all at sea

...I love Carry On Cruising! But it could quite easily have been another Sergeant clone like Constable, had Norman Hudis chosen to send up the Navy. Instead he chooses to place the crew on a cruise ship which obviously gives scope for plenty of interaction between the crew and the civilian passengers, or the boys and the girls as it transpires! Again we have a collection of misfits, this time a bunch of new crew members on Sid James well established cruise ship. Sid doesn't like new faces, they make him nervous. And so they should, the scrapes they find themselves in. Kenneth Connor once again finds himself romantically entangled. This time with Dilys Laye. The difference this time is that he isn't burdened with neuroses and superstitions, his problem lies in the fact that she's just not interested! So the comic situations arise from...

See Harry's Fireman Sam Impression!

Advantages: Great fun!

...nest down the chimney, a dangerous situation arises. 'Twitchers in Trouble'- in this episode, Trevor takes Norma's mum, Dylis, on a date(note the way she gets dressed up thinking she is going to a posh restaurant, only to find shes going bird watching!). But when someone leaves a lemonade bottle in the sun, a fire starts. I love the way Dilys always gets her words mixed up. PRICE I bought my copy for £5.99- great value. MY VIEW I love Fireman Sam almost as much as my children. My daughter is only just two and she sings the theme tune! My son, Harry, loves pretending to be Fireman Sam- he pretends his police hat is a fireman's helmet-see the picture below!...

Carry On Camping

Advantages: the whole thing is excellent
Disadvantages: some continuity errors, but - hey - so what ???

...Carry On Camping is one of the very best of the Carry On films & when most people think of them, they will picture Barbara Windsor's bikini top flying off in this one. It is hilarious from start to finish, as the characters battle with their own foibles, the problems in their relationships & then an invasion of dancing hippies !! It is hard to pick out a particular actor or actress in this one, as they all work so well together, that the film is almost faultless. Yes, there are continuity errors & when you know they had to paint the grass green, it spoils a few illusions, but it is wonderful & a timeless classic. Terry Scott & Betty Marsden are great as a couple, sharing their tent with Charles Hawtrey. Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Joan Sims, Dilys Laye, Barbara Windsor & Hattie Jacques all excel too, with Peter Butterworth's aptly...

Carry On Doctor

Advantages: very funny

...It's back to the hospital setting for the Carry On team of 1967, as they star in Carry On Doctor. This gives Jim Dale a chance to shine, as the wonderful Dr. Jim Kilmore whose incompetence & silliness leads him to be constantly under the scrutiny of Dr. Kenneth Tinkle, played very effectively by Kenneth Williams. Frankie Howerd appears in his first Carry On as Francis Bigger & provides many of the laughs, along with the rest of the cast members such as Sid James & Bernard Bresslaw. The touching almost romance going on between Bernard Bresslaw as Ken Biddle & Dilys Laye as Mavis is a lovely part too & one I remember most from watching this as a child. Hattie Jacques appears again as Matron, one of her most famous roles. Barbara Windsor appears as a sexy short-skirted nurse, to send the pulse rates of male viewers rocketing sky...

...really good and Harry already loves sitting with me to read this one! On the top half of the book, you can see there is a rectangular space where the magnetic shapes are kept. This is just a thin, sliding plastic drawer which houses all of the pieces that comes with the book. This is a see-through drawer so your toddler can see the pieces and want to get to grips with them straight away. The drawer slides out easily, with a little groove for you to put your finger in, and it took Harry all of 1 minute to figure this out, and now he loves opening and closing the 'door'! The magnets themselves are a good size, and vary in size depending on who or what the magnet is depicting. The larger 3 magnets are Fireman Sam, FireFighter Penny Morris and Fireman Elvis Criddlington. There is also a Dilys magnet, Norman Price, Mandy, Woolly the Sheep...

...Carry On Cruising is the 6th film in this series and the first one in colour. It was released in 1962. The cast includes Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Liz Frazer, Dilys Laye, Esma Cannon and Lance Percival. As the title suggests this film is set on a ship. Sid James plays the Captain on the luxury cruise liner S.S. Happy Wanderer who tries in vain to keep control on his passengers and staff alike. Carry On Cruising sees the smooth running of the ship disrupted and eventually destroyed by the many comic situations and misadventures. One of my favourite parts of the film is where Kenneth Willaims tries in a desperate attempt to impress the Captain, by playing a game of table tennis with the delightful Esma Cannon. Esma quickly takes to the game and gives Williams a run for his money. Williams decides to put in more effort in order...

Cruising into Colour - and still funny!!

...This film represents the first major watershed in the Carry on series. Last one written by Norman Hudis, the introduction of some new, familiar faces, and the brand spanking effects of colour! First Impression ------------------------ The ultimate low budget film series shelling out on a cruise? Don't bet on it! The producers do credit P&O with their help in the film, but the fact most of the on board deck scenes are around the same area (Swimming pool and walkways around) can tell you something!
