An Old English pub (The Plough Inn Country Pub and Dining Room)

... THE PLOUGH INN GALGATE Inside the pub there are several small rooms - including a games room with pool, games and darts. It is all very traditional - no need for any 'distressed' decorating her, you are really in an old English pub. The only downside is that if you do eat inside, due to the size the tables are quite close together. The garden is of the Plough is really beautiful. The owner has spent a lot of time ( and money) landscaping it and there are water features, planters and decorative features everywhere - it is a really lovely place to stop on a summers day for a drink or a meal. Between Easter and October there is a 12M x 6M marquee that is available for hire for special events - it is also a handy place to eat if the rain starts. Posh and civilized - unlike me!

Walking through the ground floor at around 7.30 on a Saturday evening, we could see that there were a number of tables already full - always a good sign. The decor was plain - cream and white with brown leather chairs - but not at all unpleasant, but it doesn't exactly stand out either. Upstairs on the first floor is a private area for parties - we were the only group up there, which, judging by the amount of noise we made, was probably just as well. We were all greeted with the offer of champagne, Bucks Fizz or orange juice, as well as a collection of canapes - stuffed olives, nuts and the like, all of which were very tasty. ...I would just like to write a review on Come Dine With Me, a reality TV show that is shown on Channel Four at around five o'clock in the afternoon along with regular repeats on E4. So what is the idea behind the show? Well, four or five people who don't know one another but all come from the same area/ town take it in turns to cook a three course meal for the others in the group who are their guests for the evening. Although they are meant to ideally cook the meal from scratch, there is nothing to stop them from buying the food in already made so as all they have to do is to reheat it. But the only item in theh rules that stops them from cheating, is that they are not really allowed o get any help from another person (also some of them do!). Our Table Table at Carlisle Bordergate

Advantages: Unique design works well, quality pub food, reasonable prices.
Disadvantages: Close proximity to motorway makes outdoor eating a no no for me, tiny loo's.

Those Who Dine

Advantages: Entertaining often car crash TV
Disadvantages: Can become repetitive

...at these ignoramuses. I also feel that there is rather too much alcohol consumed considering this is a day-time show, some of the contestants get absolutely bladdered, and again this is entertaining, but when someone?s passing out at the table, I think it?s gone a little far. As well as the standard format, there are occasional weeks where the contestants are celebrities who are competing for their favourite charity. The celebrities are never the most famous, but have included Linda Lusardi and some guy from Blue. These are possibly even more entertaining as it?s always nice to see how the rich and famous live and eat. I do find Come Dine With Me addictive and find myself watching it every weekday evening at 5.30pm on Channel 4, and occasionally on More 4 at 2pm. My partner and I also watch it together on Sundays where a whole weeks worth...

I'd recommend a table at Table Table!

Advantages: Food presentation, good seating and decor, portion size, quality of food, vegetarian dishes
Disadvantages: Temperature of the restaurant, long waiting time, extras that weren't stated

...were the one that chose to sit there if you didn't like it - there's no one to blame! Seating So, the six of us looked around the restaurant, that was oddly quiet for the evening, and eventually decided on a lovely booth that was pretty secluded, but not too lonely, and took our seats. Although it appeared to be quiet, I think it is simply because of how huge the restaurant was. Trust me, the amount of tables is enormous! But despite this, there's a great amount of space between the tables, and are several secluded, larger tables for family or social gatherings. I remember from a previous evening at this restaurant over a year ago, we even got a table that was practically in its own room! I loved this, because we were still able to see other parts of the restaurant, so it wasn't too secluded, but it did make the meal seem more...

There are traditional meat and fish choices, including wonderful steak and ale pie, burgers, pasta dishes and a vegetarian selection all served with fresh vegetables or salads and a selection of potatoes. They will happily make minor amendments to accommodate your requirements so, if for example, you wish to change from the mash to chips it is never a problem. Desserts change from time to time so are listed on a little blackboard which the waitress will bring to the table. Once you have made your food selection you place your order at the bar.
