DIRECT HOLIDAYS IS A DAWDLE

...After not having a holiday abroad this year, due to lack of funds, I was adamant that next year I would be going no matter what. The Direct Holidays brochure came through my letter-box and I briefly browsed through it and then discarded it into my poffee along with all my other magazines/newspapers. Yesterday whilst out shopping me and the hubbie went and got a armful of brochures to look through. Having two children we thought our best option would be an all-inclusive break thus avoiding constant purse-dipping (hopefully). Going via the Internet I visited many of the tour operator websites to get some quotes on how much it would cost, on finding a hotel we liked. I got a price, and then phoned the Travel Agents too to see if they could beat the web price, they could not even get £300 close to the amount quoted on the website...

Advantages: Great value for money, good website

...The countdown has begun, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6........ and yes you guessed it, I'm talking about the countdown to my next holiday! I am off to Malta in 6 days time and I have booked with Direct Holidays. This isn't the first time I have traveled with them but the 5th. I have mainly visited lots of places in spain as its only a couple of hours away which is great with a 3 year old. So far most things have been good and fingers crossed they will be this time. Direct holidays is a company that makes the claim to cut out the middle man,with no agency to pay, therefore reducing the cost of your holidays. I would totally agree with this statement as I have yet to find a lower price on any of the holidays that I have booked with them. Direct Nonsense

Advantages: Cheap, fast service
Disadvantages: some accomodation bit out of the way

...I've been a customer of Direct Holidays for about eight years. They were cheaper before being swallowed up by the Mytravel group. On the whole offer they still offer holidays at budget prices. A number of their accomodations I've stayed in have been a bit out of the way, like on the outskirts of main towns with no mentioin of this in the brochure. However there has normally been plenty around the complex in the way of shops/bars etc so not too many complaints there. My only gripe is the training of their resort staff. A few years ago I was in Salou when ETA set off a car bomb outside our hotel at 8 am. After an hour we were told we couldnt get back in for the rest of the day. ...what can i say folks, this year booked my first family holiday with direct. booked over the internet and without knowing it i had saved £££'s not pennies. after i had booked with them i decided to check out the competion and ask for exactly the same details flight, hotel and transfers. in total i saved for a family of 2 adults and 3 children £376 on the cheapest on the high street (going places)(same company!!! amazing eh!) so on my return home i checked out other sites on the worldwide web and no one came close. so much the case i have booked next years holiday with them to florida once again, and it's cheaper than last year booking early taking all the discounts available. the flight normally with my travel, very comfortable and staff very friendly, talking to neighbouring passengers found that they had booked with lun poly...

Holiday Inn Kensington Forum

Advantages: Near tude station, modern hotel
Disadvantages: Expensive car parking

...I recently visited London for a couple of days (Monday to Wednesday) and rather than sleeping on a friends sofa decided to try out a website I had seen reviewed on Ciao (priceline.co.uk). After trying the site a couple of times to see the variation in price I booked a 4 star hotel in the Kensington area for £41 (plus taxes etc). When the confirmation came through I was informed that the room I had booked was in the Holiday Inn Kensington Forum (for anyone who has never seen this site before I recommend reading some of the reviews on it, it will save you loads of money.). ...of the holiday. Unfortunately the kids all caught verrucas from this pool so even a dip in the pool led to trouble. Other forms of entertainment in the park involve you spending lots of money. The huge amusement arcades even have teeny machines for little kids to play. My daughter spent a fortune winning tickets from machines to exchange for prizes from the shop. The bowling alley was ancient and in need of a revamp but at least they guy there let the kids play unlimited games on the air hockey table for £1, sometimes having staff that didn't care was a good thing. An attraction that Haven boasts of is direct access to the beach from the park, in reality it is a good long walk to get there and when you do arrive it is strewn with seaweed and is not very nice or relaxing.
