Travel City Direct
Review of Travel City Direct by
tcdtraveller
Advantages: First Class cabin
Disadvantages: Hurricanes may delay take-off from UK
...We have travelled with Travel City Direct twice now, and I have not had any problems that stick in my mind.
Although we did travel 1st class for better service and easier check-in etc, there were no delays and the flights were fine.
I would recommend utilising their pre flight bag check in: basically you check your bags in with TCD in the morning of your last day away and you don't see them again until you arrive back.
Unfortunatley our summer holiday time does coinside with Florida's hurricane season but have only had two minor ones when over there.
The planes were the ones featured on their website and the food was better than any other airline I have been on, would definately go with them again...

A company who don't care
Review of Travel City Direct by
tattydon
Advantages: Very Cheap
Disadvantages: When something goes wrong you find out why
...You only really find out how good a company is when something goes wrong: I had booked through Travel City Direct for my flights to Florida this year. On arrival at the airport at 7:30 am, Saturday we were told that the plane was delayed until 6pm due to hurricane problems. No problem - nothing they can do about that,.
However, what followed (over the next 56 hours) was almost comical.
1 Throughout the day we were told that we would fly that night. We were repeatedly told that we would not be 'dumped' as the Virgin passengers had been (their flight was postponed 24 hours and they were all told immediately to go home)
2 At 6 pm it became evident that we might not fly. We were told we would fly but if not, they would ensure we had hotel accomodation. They told us to gather at 8pm for an announcement.
3 At 8pm all 450 passengers...

The city break operators
Review of Bridge Travel by
jo1l
Advantages: great service excellnet customer care
Disadvantages: none that I have found
...I can highly recommend using bridge Travel if you want to buy a city break. Bridge travel are better known as Paris Travel Amsterdam travel etc. Yuo'll find them in most high street travel agents. when ever I've booked with them I have actually booked direct mainley so that I can customise my trip eg go to two cities at once or just pay for accomodation. The service by Bridge is second to none and they will go out of their way to help you. They are also very knowledgable about the cities they are sending you to. They offer a wide range of breaks and hotels But if you dont see it in their brouchures just give them a ring and see what they can do. They also have thier own web site....

Travel Insurance, Don't leave home without it.
Review of Member Advice on Travel Insurance by
sharondyer
Advantages: Cheap and good cover
Disadvantages: None
...I have just booked our Travel Insurance over the Internet again this year and have found that Norwich Union Insurance have the cheapest in money and best cover. They cover you for 10 million Medical Cover etc as does every other company so they aren't skimping on anything by offering cheaper Insurance.
By ordering the Insurance over the Internet you also save 10% and it is really easy. All you need is the amount of people travelling, dates of travel and whether it is Europe, UK etc.
For myself, my husband and a 3 year old daughter it was priced up at £38.25 and that was a saving of around £25 off some Insurance quotes that I received.
Direct Line were very expensive as were HSBC but the policy by HSBC was a very good one....

Booking via teletext
Review of Travel City Direct by
bayantiques
Advantages: Friendly and helpful
Disadvantages: none
...Have you spent hours looking through teletext for holiday bargains only to find that they are not available when you get round to booking them - I have.
Travel city direct, specialise in flights to Orlando and unlike others, when you ring them, the advertised flights are available at the advertised prices. The agents are helpful, not pushy at all and give genuine help and advice.
I have used them now for several years and they continue to give the best value flight only or accommodation inclusive deals to Florida. Well done - keep up the good work...

Need a cheap flight ?
Review of Direct Travel by
prouk
Advantages: Grate price, Grate people, excellent Service
Disadvantages: Based In sheffield but are happy to deal over the phone or via email
...After searching around the travel agents trying to get the best deals on flights i stumbled upon this travel agency with a difference.
1st of all the staff are actually friendly ( not something i'd usualy associate with some travel agesncies)
2nd They know what they were doing, delt with my enquiery straight away and i caould actually tell that they really wanted to help, not just take my money and run, they spent time making sure that they get me exactly what i wanted.
3rd, PRICE, now that is always important but they were cheaper than anyone alse i had asked for a quote.
I have since used them many times and have reccomended them to may people who have also found them to be the the best.
So What company am i talking about, well it's called Direct Travel
Tel (0114) 268 7500
Give them a call and ask for paul, he'll only be too...

Dont get ripped off by Travel Agents
Review of Lunnpoly by
costas1234
Advantages: Convenience
Disadvantages: Ridiculous profit margins for a basic service provided by the Travel agents
...I recently made a price comparison for hotels in Europe and
Las Vegas USA.
I was amazed by the results i found a big difference between the prices offered by the travel agents and by booking directly with the hotel company.
This puts the case for need to book using travel agents and tour operators into perspective.
1 phone call to the Hotel Loren in Las Vegas was priced at $65. $65 in Pounds sterling is priced at approximately £32-£35. Ok i know this rate would vary based on the exchange rates and transaction fees.
However multiple searches using online sites showed the price to be in excess of £60 a night per person per room.
So using a travel agency/tour operator for a 10 day stay would cost over £300 more than booking the accomodation directly with the supplier.
The hotels need the capacity to and generally have...

Poor Service
Review of Travel City Direct by
awfultravel
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: No customer care service either by telephone or at the airport
...I have just arrived at 22.47 on 9 September 2004, having been delayed from 4 September 2004 due to Hurricane Frances. The hotel was fantastic and the staff members treated us very well throughout the disaster. We were well informed by letters and by telephone. The only disaster we had was with TravelCityDirect (Tour Operater) on flight 5A123. The staff members treated us disgustingly. They advised we were due to leave at 8.00 pm on 7 September 2004 (this was delayed) and then at 10.00 pm o 7 September and this was again delayed. We were boarded on the plane at 1.00 am and at on the plane for 4 hours and then advised that there wasn't any crew members. We slept in the airport overnight. The staff were unhelpful, there were no apologies. We were the only couple in line and requested information from crew member and she was so rude...

The World at Your Feet
Review of Bridge Travel by
JosieJo
Advantages: Complete Freedom
Disadvantages: No holiday reps when you get there
...For those independant travellers who are happy to leave the holiday reps in "Costa del Package Tour".
Bridge the world will tailor make your holiday, organising all your travel arrangements and accomodation as well as booking tours within your holiday before you go. Alternatively you can just book your flights and have complete freedom to choose what you do when you get there and organise things yourself.
This is not to say that this all they will do. They do have well travelled advisers who suggest places you might want to see, the best/cheapest options for travelling around when you get there etc. but when you get there you are on your own. I went to Austrailia last year and Bridge The World organised all the flights (direct flights and internal flights), all the accomodation - advising us on the best places for our budget. Also...

Clever Motorways
Review of Motorway Speed Limits by
lesinge2k
Advantages: Cuts journey times, Safety Maintained, Less chance of being caught speeding
Disadvantages: Safety lobbiests a little pissed off
...The motorway is a clever thing. Consisting of three wider than usual lanes all travelling in the same direction, with a central reservation involving a crash barrier which has been engineered to bounce any cars back into the direction of flow should they unwittingly veer off.
In the days when the M1 was first opened, there was no speed limit. Jaguar cars (the type Inspector Morse drives) took advantage of this and could be seen travelling at 160mph. Unfortunately, in these days, although this was a quality car, it had poor safety features and braking in comparison to todays modern cars, so proved dangerous. The Government intervened and imposed a speed limit of 70 mph.
Now today, even the most basic new car has better safety features than cars of this period. So therefore it would be safe to have a higher speed limit. Obviously...
