A wah pedal for the 21st century player
Review of Boss Wah Pedal PW-10 by mastodonathon

Advantages: 6 different wah settings, distortion/overdrive effects, 3 digital memories
Disadvantages: none

...The Boss Pw-10 Wah pedal is the first of it's kind, offering 6 different wah settings, distortion and overdrive effects, 3 digital memories and many other little extra's all wrapped up in a tiny pedal. This is a stunning new wah pedal wich is aimed at any guitar player for it is very versatile. The pedal is very easy to start off with, the knobs and controls are extremely easy to figure out with simple instructions printed on the back of the pedal and more details in the manual. The pedal has many features wich I have already mentioned wich are: 8 Distortion/Overdrive effects 6 Different wah effects Advanced Infared Pedal Detection A new 'Voice' effect New 'Double Resonance mode' New Uni V effect 3 digital memories and a range knob This is a very cool pedal to have as I have found out recently, normally you would have to buy separate... HUGE SOUND
Review of Boss Metal Zone MT-2 by Paolo1

Advantages: Huge Sound
Disadvantages: Loss of social life

...This pedal will convert your small combo into a full on marshall stack. No kidding! There are a range of distortions available from fairly light overdrive type distortions to full-on Metallica-esque distortion. The latter is truely awesome. By setting a scooped setting the sound is second to none. It features treble, bass and 2 midrange tone controls which gives complete control over the sound. For use in metal playing, sustained power chords or smooth solo sounds I cannot recommend this pedal enough. Brilliant. I wouldn't recommend it to people who are after a less full on distortion as there are better pedals for dealing specifically with slight distortion. But for more full on stuff, buy it!... The Marshall Guv'nor 2 - Distortion Pedal
Review of Marshall Guv´Nor Plus - GV-2 by richnfg

Advantages: Indestructable! Great range of tones.
Disadvantages: Dials rubbed off and drains batteries very fast

...When I went looking for a distortion pedal for my guitar and amp I instantly went for Marshall. Marshall have a great name for amps and I was hoping the same for the pedal. After trying the pedal out in the shop I handed over my £45 (which is very cheap for what this pedal can do!). -CONSTRUCTION- The Guv'nor 2 is built like a tank, it really can take a beating. This pedal is made from all metal (and no plastic, like other pedals) meaning it would be great to gig with - you could not break this if you tried! The dials are a little fiddly at times, especially if you have large hands like me, but it is not too much of a problem. -SOUND- The Guv'nor 2 can produce a variety of sounds and even comes with a booklet with a list of presets. You can play distorted blues, rock or even metal, if you really wanted to, all with a few changes... Read review

Boss MT-2 - Excellent distortion pedal!
Review of Boss Metal Zone MT-2 by cambria83

Advantages: Great Sound, Extremely Durable, Lasts a lifetime
Disadvantages: None

...If like me you like a bit of distortion then I couldn't recommend this Boss pedal to you enough! it hosts a whole range of distortion levels from light to extremely heavy and let's you customize the EQ levels to fine tune the sound you want. When you buy a Boss pedal you know you're spending your money wisely, because not only are they built out of metal to last a lifetime but the audio quality is exceptional and will never let you down! I do recommend buying an Ac adaptor for this pedal, however a 9v battery will last you a very long time as long as you don't leave the jack cable plugged into it (as this causes the battery to drain). CONCLUSION If you play any form of rock be it punk, metal, grunge or rock n' roll I guarantee you'll get a great sound out of this pedal to fit your exact distortion needs! I can't recommend this pedal... Read review

Ibanez SM-7
Review of Ibanez SM7 by onlineguitarhero2

Advantages: It is sexy and gives a good sound
Disadvantages: It's a distortion pedal.......how can there be any cons?

...The Ibanez SM-7 is a tough one to review, it most definitely full fills it's task as a big crushing metal distortion pedal but does very little else. So, let's just have a run down of all the features on the pedal. Clean Channel --------------------- This pedal works a real treat when switched off. This may sound very strange to most people but trust me, some pedals when you aren't using the effect on them will still alter the sound coming from your guitar ever so slightly, the smash box avoids this totally. DISTORTED channel ----------------------------- Oh yes. Here we go. Although this pedal is of what I would call limited capacity in effects it does cover a wide horizon in one field of effect. The smash box features four recesible dials (they push and lock in so you can't knock them and change the setting on stage... Read review

BOSS PW-10 V-WAH
Review of Boss Wah Pedal PW-10 by hes_quadraphonic

Advantages: Memory, Distortion, 8 pedals in one, 8 distortion effects
Disadvantages: 6 AA batteries 40hrs battery life, pricey Ac Adapter (£25)

..., and it wouldnt even scratch. ----------Functions---------- As mentioned before, the pedal emulates 4 main wah pedals. Additionaly, there are 4 other options, three of which include Voice, Bass Mix and Advanced. With the voice function, you can make the wah pedal pronounce and make vowel sounds, to make it appear that it is talking. A weird feature, agreed. You can actually make it say "oh yeah" but other than novelty value, i cant see when this can actually be used. Bass-Mix is a wah effect specially configured for bass guitars, though you could run a bass through the other effects if you wished. As well as this, the wah pedal has a custom setting, which is pretty self explanatory, and three memory settings, selected by pushing your heel down on the pedal. The features don;t end here either, for the pedal also has distortion functions, all of which... Read review

"The Equalizer"
Review of Boss Equilizer GE 7 by richard_richard

Advantages: Good sound, flexibility, reliable
Disadvantages: Almost too much to fiddle around with!

...are, 100Hz, 200Hz, 400Hz, 800Hz, 1,6kHz, 3.2kHz and 6.4kHz. Each slider has a boost/cut of +/- 15dB. This allows for a great deal of flexibility for those that like fiddling around with their guitar tone! This pedal can be useful in a number of ways. It can help you to produce a specific guitar sound, i.e. if you like the modern “scooped” distortion sound, this can be achieved by reducing the middle three sliders on this pedal and boosting the 100hz and 6.4khz sliders. It is also useful for fine tuning your guitar sound as it gives you have far more flexibility than the tone controls on most amplifiers. Another use for this pedal, (and the way I use it) is as a boost for lead guitar solos. Even though I am using a three channel Marshall TSL100 amplifier, this pedal still comes in handy for adding a bit more boost and thickness... Read review

Ibanez Tube Screamer TS9
Review of Ibanez Tube Screamer TS 9 by 01GrahJ

Advantages: Beautiful creamy overdrive, well built
Disadvantages: None whatsoever!

...I am using the Tube Screamer with a Gordon Smith SG2 (great guitar) and a 65 watt Marshall JTM60 valve combo amp. With the TS9 on, I'm able to play great sustaining solos, and crunchy riffs, which sound better than they ever did before with only my amps built-in distortion. If you want a lots of distortion, then you can put the drive knob all the way up, but don't forget that the TS9 is an overdrive pedal, and sounds best when the drive knob is put around 1-2 o'clock. This will give a nice raunchy rock sound, excellent for solos. I'd suggest you use it with and AC adaptor, as you never know when batteries are going to fail on you! If you're after a good pedal to give you some slight overdrive to your clean sound, this will do the trick. This is a great pedal. It doesn't suck tone and the overdriven sound is fantastic. If you need... Read review

What great pedals!
Review of Line 6 Stomp Box Modelers by corianlightsphere

Advantages: Great build quality. Very professional sound.
Disadvantages: Batteries aren't economical.

...) The Filter modeller is my next favorite. It really fuses the gap between acid rock and electronica nicely. Some of the sounds this thing can help you make, cannot be identified. The growler is especially special. The Modulation modeler is great too. It makes anything that goes through it sound much fuller (if that's what you want). The uni-vibe is a great effect, and the manual even tells you how to set the optional expression pedal, to recreate the effect of the pedal situated on the original unit that was used for modelling. The Distortion modeller has some excellent distortions available. I reallu like the compressor though, which is kinda anti distortion. Whatever. One of my favorite things to do with the distortion modeller, is to set the optional expression pedal so that as I push it down, the distortion increases. This is a very clean... Read review

Jumping On Purple Boxes Is Fun Too
Review of Boss Flanger BF 2 by Champ666

Advantages: Loads
Disadvantages: None

...Jumping on brightly coloured metal boxes is good work if you can get paid for it, I don’t I do it for fun. However there comes a time in every electrical guitarists life when he needs to make funny noises out of his guitar, well I have this need anyway. Most people start off with a distortion pedal as I did but after a while you need more effects and more and more and more, one effects pedal is never enough (insert sinister laughing here). I always wanted a flanger partly because of its slightly rude name but mainly because of my desire to go all heavy psychedelic space rock on your ass. The flanger is the pedal for this job. Ok so what is it? The flanger rather obviously produces a sound effect. In the good olde days the effect was obtained by playing back two reel-to-reel recorders containing the same material, and placing a thumb... Read review
