Advantages: great ideas Disadvantages: comedy sketches
...DIY SOS is on BBC One and it is a programme that i enjoy as it is about DIY and gives you some great ideas in how to decorate your home and it is now ready to start its 10th series.
DIY SOS is a show that picks someone each week that has a DIY disaster and they then go and redecorate the whole of the space whether it be a kitchen or the front room they always do a great job and give me some great ideas on how to decorate the home. Also unlike most DIY shows they have a week to do the show in so manage to do a proper job where as some shows these days have 60 minutes or something silly to try and decorate a house in, which to a high standard is impossible.
With the presenter Nick Knowles, Billy the electrican, Jules and Chris the plasterers, combined with the Irish charm of carpenter Mark no job is too big or too small. The team work...

Review of BBC1 - DIY SOS
Advantages: Lots of Pictures Disadvantages: Impossible Dream!
...the rafters and a 2 foot wide hole above the door leading to the back-extension. I don't know how we missed all these problems when we were looking round, but suffice to say that ours were not practised eyes!
I asked for the Collins Complete DIY Manual as a birthday present, as our repairs expenses were getting obscene, and I felt confident that we could tackle some of the tasks alone. And I thought it might be fun too. It duly arrived via Amazon (£9.75) and my H. was bemused to see me so excited over something so potentially disastrous. I'm quite a practical person, and always used to help my dad with the decorating, but my DIY knowledge is patchy and H's is worse. I chose this particular manual because it seemed to be designed for novices like myself, looked very comprehensive in its content, and, vitally, included lots of pictures...
Advantages: A thoroughly enjoyable show Disadvantages: None really!
...WHAT IS IT?
DIY SOS is a home makeover show that focuses on those who really desperately need help after an unsuccessful attempt at some serious DIY. I'm not talking the odd wonky shelf here or there, more like massive holes where walls should be and rooms that look more like a building site than a home. The team have 5 days to turn these houses from disaster zones into beautiful living spaces that fulfil the owner's wildest dreams. There is usually a genuinely good reason why these people ask for help sorting out the mess they have made - often illness or a sudden change in circumstance has left the family with no proper home. DIY SOS has been running for 10 years and is currently on its 18th series! You can catch it on a Thursday on BBC at 8.30pm.

Review of BBC1 - DIY SOS
Advantages: Money saved, job satisfaction, can be shared with friends Disadvantages: Cost to set up, a job for the summer days
...I recently read that since the current recession started there has been a significant increase in the number of people you have started to carry out their own DIY repairs on their vehicles to save money.
At the same time the breakdown recovery companies also report an increase in call outs to people who have carried out DIY repairs on their vehicles & have reported non starts or catastrophic problems.
Doing it yourself can save a lot of money but it can cost you dearly or worse still it can be fatal if you don?t know what you are doing.
The option of doing it yourself has to be seriously considered & there is a strong case for it. Presently, labour charges at garages are sky high, an average franchised dealer will charge around £65.00 - £75.00 per hour plus V.A.T. for one hours work. In London with a prestige franchised dealer you...

Review of DIY installations
Advantages: Detailed with lots of pictures Disadvantages: Know your limitations
...I moved to a larger house and wanted a really good DIY manual that covered most aspects of house DIY. The Collins book is one of a handful that cover most aspects of DIY/ house construction to varying degrees of complexity., and is reasonably priced around £20 for over 500 pages. The book is well ordered with an excellent index.
Each section (usually major items like electrical/plumbing/roofs/decorating etc) begins with an overview so you learn the lingo of the trade. The sections then go into greater detail on specific aspects that should allow you to recognise the constructions/designs you are viewing, diagnose problems, design new features, and then get everything installed properly. There are plenty of pictures to show exactly what they are describing. There is also quite a large section on tools and fixings that are commonly...
Advantages: A very cheap lay!!! Disadvantages: Making a rod for my own back?
...As I slouch through the kitchen for my hundredth time in one morning I actually notice the tiles beneath my feet, grubby and well past their sell by date. Never one to hold back on another DIY challenge I take baby monster to his favourite toy store....... Homebase.
Walking around the flooring area I realised I was going to be hard pushed to tile my kitchen on a budget, until I spotted the Essentials range, easy to miss in boring bland orange and white packaging. But as I wasn?t going to use the box to walk on, I took a chance. There were several different patterns from blue to a wood effect. I chose 10 packs of "brick sand", (similar to natural and pale terracotta stones in a 9 tile mosaic effect) and considered my £22.90 very well spent. This worked out to be £2.29 per pack of 6 tiles which cover approximately 6sq.ft. They have...

Review of Homebase DIY Flooring
Advantages: customer service, quality of units, price offers Disadvantages: need larger display area
...minutes, then queuing at the customer service desk a young man wanted to take our details and then get back to us about booking a home measure and quote. "Can you not give me a booking date now?" "No" He said "We are booking into February now. If your serious I might be able to get a cancellation" "So what if I do the measurements myself and plan it here?" "Well you can, but we will still have to come out to do them again" With this we turned tail vowing never to darken their doors again. Driving home mumbling about the state of customer service and retailing attitudes it dawned on me that we may have the solution a mile away from where we live.
Homebase for me had always been the DIY place just up the road for all the decorating and household needs. I had had a quick look around the gallery upstairs where they display kitchens and bathrooms...
...Well, as my mum would say, I am definitively my fathers daughter! The product I will now review certainly demonstrates that fact.
My family (bar for my dad) are diy-phobes, they are lucky in the respect my dad takes most of the responsibility for redecorating and renovating, my mum, (at a push) will occasionally paint, preferring her role as the design co-ordinator!
As I have been left home for more years than I care to recall I do try to do as much as I can myself, although daddy does get the occasional SOS from me!
The product I will now review is a wonderment to me, making old surfaces look as if they are new..
The product I will now review is " Unibond anti mould grout reviver, ice white"
Ok, so you were probably expecting some amazing new fangled piece of equipment after that build up, but trust me, this product...
