I paid £19.99 for the adaptor in PC world who only had Belkin at the time which I thought was not expensive. However installing it was a nightmare. The 3 easy steps on the box seemed so easy; Install the software, plug the adaptor into a USB PORT - start networking! If only it was that simple. Every time my computer searched for a network it crashed. I phoned the Belkin company who took me step by step through the technical part and still we could not get internet. Eventually the Belkin assistant told my for some reason my computer was not recognising the new network. Being increasingly frustrated I considered taking the adaptor back for a refund...

...Back in March 2007, I bought my first laptop. This brought the number of computers in our house up to a grand total of three (my own desktop, my daughter's and the new laptop). It struck me that perhaps it was time to get networked. A hard wired network was out of the question, as I didn't want to start drilling holes and running cables everywhere, so a wireless solution seemed to be the way to go. I did a little research, as I'm not too au fait with this side of computing (though I have assisted in installing one before). Eventually in Pissy Werld (sorry, PC World), I found this package from D-Link. It consisted of the wirless router itself and a seperate antennae (destined for my daughter's bedroom PC). Also in the box were installation CDs for each of the two bits of hardware, a power supply and an additional ethernet cable.. So...

...I bought this kit (along with an included DWL G122 USB dongle; see my separate review) as a package from Ebuyer mid 2005 for £58. I had read all of the reviews I could reasdily lay my hands on and thought it was a bargain at this price and to a degree it is. However... Looking at the specification (see the blurb pasted at the bottom) this is a nice piece of kit for little money. It is firmly in the mainstream of wireless kit still, giving 54g performance and DLink are still releasing firmware updates (it is well over a year since product release). I've found that in practice it works well...when it works. But to get back to the beginning... I live in a large two bed apartment with telephone connections in all rooms BUT the one where I wished to place my PC. Not wanting to mess around with wiring up a new telephone line to the room...

...I bought this router on eBay for £20. I used this to connect 2 computers to the same internet connection to save running another lead through to the new computer. I plugged the router in and connected it up to a computer and read the instruction manual which is very useful. It comes with a wizard that gives you step by step instructions on how to configure the router with your internet connection, so I ran this and it worked fine. The instruction manual is also very good in telling you how to set up different restrictions on the router to allow certain computers to connect to it wirelessly. After about 20 minutes I had both computers working with the internet connection. I also wanted to use this router to connect computers together wirelessly to create a network so games can be played on individual workstations. It is so easy to...

...The D-Link DWL-G650+ is a PCMCIA wireless (WiFi) card, which plugs into an available PCMCIA slot on a laptop. With this card, it wireless-enables a laptop, assuming it doesn't have built-in wireless already. The card cost me about £25 at the time but you may be able to find the same one cheaper now. Most of these seem to be in this price range if not less, since they are becoming redundant with new laptops already having built-in cards. Buffalo WBMR-G54 wireless router - a real buffalo?

Advantages: Reasonable price, easy to use, lots of advanced settings

...I bought this router from a local Argos shop at an emergency situation i.e. I want it now and therefore not at the best price - 49.99. Reason: My all singing and all dancing Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-EG - wireless router had lost its main function, 'internet connectivity' after a month or so of continuous use (see my other review, now updated, for details). All is left is wireless communication i.e. useless. The return of this router back to Amazon caused me a week (lots of emails + recorded delivery + check that the refund includes the recorded delivery etc) For Argos, there is an obvious advantage - if there is something wrong with it, I just take it back for a refund/replacement on the same day. This router comes with detail instructions (step-by-step) for installation however it does not cater for the presence of a firewall...
