...Schools will rock - Ben Elton Stage 84 in Bradford was given to go ahead in 2007 by Brian May to be the only dance school to do We Will Rock You as a stage musical. Anita Dobson is the patron of Stage 84 and she convinced Brian May to give the go ahead with the show. The show took place on 15-18th October 2008 at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford and it had a total cost of 225 students that performed in the show aged from 6 to 25. The show was a great success and the last night of the show was a complete sell out, in the audience on the last night (Gala Night) was Anita Dobson and Jack Shepherd (David Platt - Coronation Street). ...This was the first novel of Lyn Andrews that I had read, and not the usual type of fiction that I go for. Normally I read modern chick lit stuff, but this book is set in Liverpool in 1933. Eve and Eddie Dobson run a pub in Liverpool. They have three daughters. Times are hard for many people, Eve and Eddie included, because of the Depression and Eddie is told by the Brewery to economise so that the pub will survive. Eve takes matters into her own hands first and sacks their flirty barmaid Doreen, only for Eddie to follow Doreen. Eddie genuinely thinks that Doreen is interested in him, but she is just interested in a good time and needs someone to finance it for her. Comedy horror

Disadvantages: Overly silly at times

...'t really work - she provides a pretty face, but very little more. I've not heard of the actress before, probably for a very good reason - she just isn't anything special. There are a number of other characters involved in the film, but apart from the doctor's dead husband, played by Peter Dobson, and the mass murderer, played by Jake Busey, no-one is on-screen for long enough to make an impact. Dobson gives an extremely slapstick performance which just about works, but is a bit over the top; Jake Busey looks exactly as a mass murderer ought to, but the role really is based on looks rather than his acting skills. The special effects are fairly basic, but in its day probably would have been quite impressive. Most of the scary 'monsters' are seen bulging through wallpaper, others are 'ghosts' that glow in the dark and sometimes have bones showing...

Not quite the Krays

Advantages: Fascinating look at 1960's crime in England

...I quite liked the film, I think that Luke Goss gives a good performance as Charlie Richardson I also found the film to be quite interesting and certainly better than I had expected after reading other reviews. For those interested in British underworld during the 1960's Charlie is a film that is worth watching and with a running time of just 93 minutes is one of those films that is entertaining after a night out. There are far worse gangster films than this, however in terms of films based on real events Charlie is not as good as the Krays.
