Doctor Who?
Advantages: High quality detailed figure.
Disadvantages: Will never come out of the packaging.... ever!
...With the regeneration and revival of the legendary Doctor Who TV series in 2005, it was strikingly obvious that a modern merchandising campaign was going to be rolled out as soon as the first episode had finished airing as new generation of fans of had effectively been captured. In my mind Season 1 starring Christopher Eccleston as the Time Travelling Doctor gave us some good episodes to further the legacy of the Doctor.
In the=is Season there were a number of two part stories, the second two-parter of the Season was called 'The Empty Child' and 'The Doctor Dances' and this story, split across two episodes introduced us to Captain Jack Harkness for the first time. It was quite a frightening story with a lone child in a gasmask roaming war torn London looking for his Mummy, come Monday morning it was an episode that was still fresh in...

Doctor Who changes tack slightly
Advantages: Great stuff
Disadvantages: None really
...Now well into the second series of the revamped Doctor Who, we see the writers take a bit of a different tack with the plotlines. We have another double episode story with The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit, and then a foray into an episode where the Doctor and Rose are not greatly featured, with a band of other actors taking the top billing for the episode, in Love and Monsters. This is a welcome change from the norm.
The Impossible Planet
The Doctor and Rose are sucked out of the TARDIS and onto a spaceship, which they find out is being held in orbit around a black hole. The ship has a small crew of humans running it, and cannot explain why the black hole has not swallowed them up. The ship also has a horde of a slave race known as the Ood on board, controlled by the crew. They are drilling into the surface of the nearby...

Doctor Who hits back with a bang!
Advantages: Great rebirth of the doctor
Disadvantages: None really
...For the past 4 years or so, my wife has consistently watched the revival of Doctor Who, first with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor, then with David Tennant taking over the role. She tried to persuade me to watch them, but it is something that I had never really been fussed with. Growing up at my parents' house, I would occasionally watched a rerun of one of the older Doctor Whos, such as Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee, and I found them interesting, but I didn't really follow them and the aliens just seemed farcical to me.
Fast forward to last year. The fourth series ended in what my wife called a gobsmacking double episode that made her go out and buy the box set of the series starring Christopher Eccleston as the doctor. It was her intention to make me watch the last four series in as short a time as possible. So, we sat down...

DOCTOR WHO - THE STEALERS OF DREAMS
Advantages: good read
Disadvantages: nothing new
...Doctor Who: The Stealers of Dreams.
The travelling trio arrive in the not so far future and find that Fiction has been outlawed. In fact anything that makes the mind think too much or adds to mans desires and fantasies is against the law, the penalty being death.
Who can be controlling society with such an iron grip and more importantly why?
The Doctor, Rose and Jack arrive and soon are in touch with the resistance but are the resistance right to challenge this oppressive regime or should things be left alone, things it seems are not as straight forward as you may think.
Here and now in this time, Dreams really can kill you! Thinking too much can be detrimental to your health. A problem if you're the Doctor!
The good guys soon become he bad guys and the bad guys soon become extinct. And in...

Doctor Who - a totally different type of adventure
Advantages: Loads of variety, great performances,
Disadvantages: bit too emotional, some of the episodes. Sniff.
...Doctor Who started way back in 1963, with William Hartnell playing the Doctor! And his performance must have been so strong as we as a whole are still obsessed with this gripping programme, 44 years later!
In the 21st Century, we met a brand new, fresh Doctor when the show was decided to be brought back. In come Chris Eccleston! He was perfect material to introduce Doctor Who to the younger generation who may not have known what the show was about. The Doctor went about on his adventures with his new, young and bubbly companion, Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper. In this first series of the phenomenal show, together they embark on thirteen teriffic adventures, and they have invited us along with them...

Doctor Who series 1
Advantages: Great viewing for all the family
Disadvantages: none
...Well, it had been a long break since the last Doctor Who and bringing it back in the 21st century would always be a risk, but with all the modern special effects tricks available the new series should make interesting viewing.
*The first episode, Rose, sees the doctor (Christopher Eccleston) rescuing Rose (Billie Piper) from the dreaded shop dummies in a department store on their very first meeting.
The Doctor is on Earth hunting down an Alien creature, 'the Nestene', who is in control of all the plastic on earth. then when the shop dummies come alive and begin to attack people in London the Doctor and Rose have to stop the earth being taken over by this thing.
As an opening episode it was well written with an easy to follow story line for the return of the Doctor. The minimal use of special effects making the episode more...

Who's for the Doctor?
Advantages: Great sci fi for children of all ages
Disadvantages: No extras on DVD
...Everyone has an era and their own special Doctor Who when they were growing up, and mine was Tom Baker, that clever yet funny timelord with his wonderful sonic screwdriver fighting off sea monsters, robots and aliens. I was not the sort of person (or child) who would hide behind the sofa, but I was mesmerised. Now the new series is here, and my daughter's era is upon us, the era of Christopher Eccleston. My five and half year old does not hide behind the sofa, but she does reach for the cushions sometimes and she - like me all those years ago, is mesmerised. I looked forward to the new series until it began, and Borg Junior did too, and where we disappointed? No! Well, perhaps we are both sad that Mr Eccleston would not be reprising his role next season, but you cannot have everything. I was lucky enough to be given a copy of Doctor...

Doctor who, series two
Advantages: Good special effects
Disadvantages: slow storylines
...) 'dying, really showed why Doctor Who should never have disposed of the only two stars it really had.
Don't get me wrong, David Tennent IS a great actor but I never thought he was right for the role of 'the Doctor', to me he is much to 'dramatically' for the role.
The first series made people interested again about watching what was already a classic sci-fi series for decades. The show gaining a new, younger audience as well as keeping the die-hard fans, but then the second series for me was a slight let down.
I am not saying that the second series is not worth watching, it is.
The story lines are good, but without the special effects the show would fail.
Without telling you what happens in the episodes and spoiling it for people who haven't seen series 2 yet here are the basics?.
In the second series we went forward in time to see cats...

A great Doctor Who
Advantages: One of the best Doctor Who episodes
Disadvantages: Deserves to be a bit longer
...This Doctor Who takes its place among other great episodes like: Inferno, Pyramids of Mars, Earthshock, Planet of Evil and many more. Its storyline is the archetypal clash between man and the machine which it has created, rather like Terminator, etc.
Its brilliantly well done with great performances - especially from Tom Baker (of course) who I think is the best Doctor Who, close behind John Pertwee and Patrick Troughton.
What distinguishes the old episodes of Doctor Who from the newer series being shown on TV with David Tennant, is that these stories and adventures take place in a variety of different theatres - like on different planets, on spaceships in the middle of space instead of Council estate after council estate in London, like in the new series. Different destinations give greater interest to the audience and also opens up...

Doctor Who Series 2
Advantages: Amazing episodes, phenomenal cast, widely varied
Disadvantages: Emotional
...Doctor Who started way back in 1963, with William Hartnell playing the Doctor! And his performance must have been so strong as we as a whole are still obsessed with this gripping programme, 44 years later!
In the 21st Century, we have met two new Doctors. The 9th Doctor was played by Chris Eccleston, a cheeky chap. But at the end of Series 1, the Doctor regenerated, and introduced us to our latest 10th Doctor, David Tennant! His battles were accompanied by his latest companion, Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper. In this second series of the phenomenal show, together they embark on thirteen teriffic adventures, and they have invited us along with them...
