...You would not think that the world of gyms is a topic that would work well in a comedy film. However, in the 2004 film, Dodgeball - A True Underdog Story, two rival gyms compete to win a sports tournament. Dodgeball - A True Underdog Story is about the owner of a small and financially unsuccessful gym Average Joe's, Peter LaFleur, who must raise $50,000 in thirty days to pay for his mortgage, which he defaulted on. Peter?s rival gym owner, White Goodman, who owns the successful Globo-Gym across the street, purchases Peter?s mortgage when he defaulted on it and plans to demolish Average Joe's and build a car park. Advantages: Endlessly quotable, great if you have a nasty sense of humour...
Disadvantages: awful if you don't. No plot, no character development

...If Peter La Fleur can?t repay his mortgage in thirty days, his arch-enemy White Goodman will bulldoze his gym and turn it into a car park. His only hope is a Las Vegas Dodgeball tournament. But with his team of misfits, he doesn?t seem to have a hope of winning? So what is dodgeball? Essentially it is an evil pseudo-sport that American teenagers are forced to play in PE. It involves throwing football-sized rubber balls at the opposing team?s heads and bodies, knocking them out of the game or their senses. Despite only having a runtime of 88 minutes, its well worth the buy/rent/watch. ******May spoil film if you haven't seen it******* Peter (played by Vince Vaughn) is the owner of a pretty average gym. Hence the name of it: "Average Joes. When the gym is faced with being closed down unless outstanding debts are payed, money has to be made quick. The first attempts are just really for the humour. After this, this is where the bulk of the movie kicks off. All the members of the gym form a basketball team and try to win a big event (prize money $50 000, the amount of money needed.)
