...My niece has a beautiful dolls house called the Marlborough Dolls House which is a John Crane Pintoy product ? in fact I wrote a review about it some time ago. There are various sets of furniture available to fit in this, or indeed any other, dolls house including bathroom, living room, kitchen, nursery and bedroom furniture. Earlier this year she received the set of living room furniture which she loves playing with and it is so cute I just had to tell you about it! Since I had no idea how much it cost I have just searched via Google and found the set ranging from £14.99 at Mail Order Express, to £13.95 at Amazon, down to just £12 at www.kidsrooms.co.uk where they also stock furniture for all the other rooms too! At a local Car boot sale there was just under a dozen of the Dolls House and Miniature Scene magazines in a pile all marked at 10p each ! Dolls houses fascinate me so I handed over my sweaty pound coin and bagged the lot. The magazine is a very well known monthly publication that focuses on shows,books,craftsmen and the individual collector. The magazine includes projects either in 1:12 or 1:24 scale ,among the projects there will be doll clothes to make,furniture,knitting or fine embroidery projects. I Want A House With A Pink Roof!

Advantages: excellent price, comes with furniture and doll's, good quality for what you pay!
Disadvantages: tiny hinges make assembly a bit faffy.

Not quite so real House and Doll.

Advantages: Good sound effects, lots of accessories
Disadvantages: Quite heavy, expensive, nowhere to store accessories.

...My youngest daughter kept going on about the Barbie house where the toilet flushes and the doorbell rings, so for Christmas we got her the Barbie Totally Real House with Doll. *PACKAGING* The box had a flap which opened to reveal parts of the house, which is a good idea when you want to see what's inside the box. It even had a piece of velcro on the box to keep the flap closed. But when the box needs to be recycled anyway, it seems an unnecessary waste of card. Of course the box pictures all of the accessories included, with captions for the sound effects. *UNPACKING & ASSEMBLY* As with many toys these day, it took an age to unpack and assemble. Far too long to expect any child to wait on Christmas morning. But our daughter is fairly patient, and she did have other things to occupy her with, so this wasn't much of a problem...

...When I was a little girl I could spend hours playing with my dolls' house. It was a hand me down that had been lovingly made by someone's dad, with working lights and a doorbell and one day I really must relocate it in my mother's rather full loft! When I had my own daughters I suppose it was one of the first toys that I thought of buying for them, I hoped that they would get as much pleasure as I did from mine. For my first daughter I bought a wooden Toys R Us version - which was about £50 all in, furniture, dolls and all. I had seen this Pintoy version in John Lewis - they seem to have one in every store I have ever been to, but at £100 for the house itself with no furniture or dolls (additional sets are about £10-15 from John Lewis or online) it seemed like a big outlay.
