Hotel Don Juan,Magaluf - A pleasant suprise!

Advantages: Well located, friendly staff, spacious rooms
Disadvantages: Evening meal could've been better

...It's been a while since I wrote a review and I had said to myself that I would wait until after my holiday to put fingers to keyboard once again. After sunning ourselves for 2 weeks in Magaluf, Majorca it's taken me a while to get back into the swing of everyday life in Blighty but I think I'm almost there (worst luck). Well it's been almost a week since we got back and so I thought it was about time I put my review writing cap on once again and what better to review than the hotel we stayed in on our holiday. The Don Juan Hotel is part of the Hoteles Saint Michel group and is a 3 star hotel situated in the quieter area of Magaluf. It was built in 1972 and extensively renovated during the winter of 1999 and has 182 rooms in total (161 twins and 21 single) which stretch over seven floors. Advantages: close to beach
Disadvantages: Can be noisy at night

...outdoor freshwater swimming pool, with separate children's section, which was very nice and they did tend to keep it quite clean. The sun terraces were also a good size and were furnished with plenty of sun loungers and parasols ********KIDS********** There is a children?s playground and mini-club and they also had pool and table tennis tables. *********ENTERTAINMENT********** There was a good programme of daytime sporting activities (pool games, archery, aerobics) organised each day. Castilla Hotel Alicante Playa San Juan

Advantages: close to the beach
Disadvantages: service poor.

...My wife and I have just spent a week at the Castilla and have returned home very disappointed with the hotel itself and the concrete jungle in which it resides. To start with the pluses: The hotel is spotlessly clean - though we did find in our room a cockroach of the sort of proportions which might have got it some extra work in the film "Alien". The cleaning staff and indeed all the female staff working in the hotel were helpful and efficient, pleasant to talk to and always wore a smile. Anything else? hmmm the lifts worked! None of the male staff measured up to the female. Surly, unhelpful and distant are the kindest words I can find. The food was poor - it was never served warm. Juan is a Colombian that test drove for Williams 3 years ago. He has been contracted out to Chip Ganassi in CART racing for 2 years where he won the title at his first attempt. I dare say with a more reliable car and better luck, he would do the same thing in F1. Yesterday in Brazil we saw his true class. ...We chose to visit the Holiday Inn Alicante Playa de San Juan for a week in July after having three very pleasant stays in Express by Holiday Inns in the UK. We were not sure what to expect in terms of quality, however it was probably one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in. The cost was ?94 per night for an en suite room with king size bed and an ?almost double? sofa bed. The room was on the third floor of the hotel and had a view of another apartment block to the rear of the hotel. However, this did not cause any problems as the apartments were quite a distance from the hotel, therefore not blocking the panoramic view. Fiesta Don Carlos Hotel Ibiza

Advantages: Relaxing, very close to the beach,10 mins away from shops
Disadvantages: not the place to go if you want nightclubs, as its the quieter side of the island

...I first stayed at this hotel, two years ago, with my boyfriend, and he and his parents had been going to this part of the island for many years, but when he mentioned Ibiza my first thought was, its going to be very noisy, full of clubs, bars and lots of drinking, as i had heard all the stories, but i thought i would go just to see, i couldn't have been more wrong,. The hotel itself has just been redecorated, and is very well kept, there is an indoor bar, and restaurant and they also have an outside dinning area, but space is limited so you have to be early for dinner, there is a large pool, which has a seperated area for children, There are steps leading down to the beach, and another outdoor bar just off to your left as you reach the bottom of the steps, which is also part of the hotel. Good gambling times in San Juan

Advantages: close to the beach, casino in the hotel, clean and friendly
Disadvantages: bus or taxi ride to the old San Juan, beach too small

...two blocks from the hotel on the right. There is a deli and a pharmacy/cosmetics store near too so you have everything you need. Oh, and of course Burger King and Subway or something like that across the street. If you prefer to eat cheap. Not that food was expensive but eating in restaurants 3 times a day takes it's toll on the purse. You could spend that money gambling... When you book the trip on Expedia or any other site, don't choose a shuttle to the hotel for $50 per person as the taxi costs $13-17 one way. The trip to Old San Juan in a taxi will cost you also around $12-15 however, there is a bus # B21 running to Old San Juan which drops you off by the bus terminal in the port area. The bus costs 75 cents. The bus goes supposedly every 20 mis but you can wait up to an hour if you're not lucky....

The best hotel in the tourist trap of Benidorm

Advantages: Good service,great location, fine food.
Disadvantages: entertainment.

...Benidorm is full of third rate hotels catering mostly for the mass British tourist market. It is easy to see why it is so popular,with a great climate,blue flag beaches,good transport links,and close to a number of theme parks.Finding a good hotel however is another matter.Most of the Benidorm hotels are booked by the large travel companies and to be honest with a few exceptions remain cheap and cheerfull. The Don Pancho however is another matter. The WOW factor begins when you arrive as you walk thru the Mayan themed garden, with river and waterfall,to enter the hotel. The check in is one of the quickest in Spain and you are then taken along with your luggage to your room (unheard off in the rest of Benidorm hotels.)
