Munch Moffat Toffee

Advantages: yummy, reminds me of home
Disadvantages: not really available outside of Dumfries and galloway

...There was once upon a time in Britain before confectionary became corporate and the hegemony of Nestlé, Mars and Cadburythat each town and area had their own local specialty of sweets. Berwick had its Cockles, Devon its fudge, Edinburgh its rock and Kendal its famous Mint Cake. In my native Dumfriesshire, the local specialty was and still is Moffat Toffee. Moffat is a small town about 20 miles from Dumfries and is just off the M74 motorway. Once it was a spa resort but is now a busy stop-off point for coach tours heading north to Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands. It is also famous for its sweet shop the Moffat Toffee shop. A family owned business that has been making this local delicacy to a secret recipe since the early nineteenth century. The shop has always been a family business started by Janet Cook Johnstone, now owned...

MuckDonalds

Advantages: The milkshake was OK but I'm not sure if that should be considered advantageous
Disadvantages: Dirty surroundings, foul food, surly staff, food bears no resemblance to advertising photos

...Back in the mid 1970s, there was a buzz going around about the newest ?culinary? (for want of a more appropriate word) indulgence from the USA. The subject of this buzz was none other than our now institutional McDonalds, which was standing in line, all set to enthral, and replace the scampi & chips in a basket 1970s pub food culture. My dubious claim to fame regarding McDonalds was that my now late brother-in-law had installed the central heating system inside the newly built, shiny glass-fronted monolith with the huge yellow "M" outside, in the High Street of my then home town. The completion and opening of this new eating house was the first step down the path of architectural atrocity, culminating in the many ensuing eyesores that, over the decades, has turned the once rather elegant and tasteful High Street of my home town into...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about Ģ100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE AT McDONALDS

Advantages: No Strict Dress Code!
Disadvantages: Service, Cleanliness, Atmsosphere

...I'm not a huge fan of McDonalds but my two children seem to regard it as a treat so we go every once and awhile. History, menus, etc can all be found in other reviews so I would like instead to share with you my most recent, unpleasant and frightening experience. I arrived at the McDonalds restaurant in the Meole Brace area of Shrewsbury at around 5pm on a Friday before Xmas with my son, then aged 10 yr. and my daughter 4yrs. The restaurant is situated in quite a pleasant retail park about 2 miles from the centre of Shrewsbury. There is ample parking and the surrounding gardens have matured to make the exterior of the restaurant quite attractive.. There are tables outside should you wish to sit in the cold or have a smoke. The exterior of the building itself is of typical McDonalds design - perhaps now rather dated and in need...

Mc Donald's

Advantages: Convinient
Disadvantages: Not a lot if any nutritional value

...Mc Donalds Fast Food Restaurant I often visit Mc Donald's all though the food has not much of any nutritional value at all I still occasionally enjoy their food. There are a few branches in the local area which I prefer as they seem to prepare hotter food that tastes less revolting than some places do. The standard of Mc Donald's food varies dramatically from day to day and from branch to brand, sometimes it's warm and fresh other times it's over cooked on the edges and cold. They are very good if you do complain about the quality of the food and do replace it with fresh food usually a whole meal, I've found if you complain to head office they usually send out vouchers. It is very convenient being able to use either their drive though or sit in and have a meal. They also have very use full opening times and are great for late...

McDonalds, literally 'fast' food

Advantages: Affordable, good if you're in a hurry
Disadvantages: Unhealthy if eaten lots

...I don't know too much about the background of McDonalds, considering its a massive US corporation and I'm from little old England, so I'll just get right into my experiences of MDs and what to expect from one of their' restaurants'. I don't know when fast food surfaced, but its certainly made lots of lives easier. Especially, MDs, as there's one EVERYWHERE. Every city, every town, they are literally like an infectious disease, but in a good way. When most people think of MDs, they think of dirt, filth, grime and grease. That's a stereotypical image of a fast food joint, and MDs is, after all, the King. However, I think that most of my MDs experiences are actually rather pleasant. The first thing I generally notice from outside is the big familiar M, recognised by most cultures and ages. They are afraid to let everyone knowwhere they...

McDonalds

Advantages: Cheap food, tasty
Disadvantages: Same everywhere, unhealthy

...Introduction ~~ There everywhere, on high streets, retail parks – you name it its hard to go somewhere and not see the big yellow M and with it a greasy smell of burgers and chips. Yup I’m on about good old Maccy D’s. Not that you didn’t know that as it says quite clearly in blue writing. Well if your after cheap food when your out’n’about that isn’t from the greasy spoon that was almost shutdown or the filthy kebab van then McDonalds or Burger King are your safest bet. The Food ~~ In other words the most important bit! At McDonalds you can buy the following burgers and sandwiches: Big Mac: My favourite! Two 1/8 pounder burgers, salad, Maccy D’s secret source (only 2 people know it at one time in the world!!) Gurkins and mayonnaise. And obviously the burger buns! Quarter...

Review of McDonalds, Windsor

McDonalds - We know it's unhealthy but it's cheap!

Advantages: Cheap food, not bad tasting burgers.
Disadvantages: Unhealthy & full of fat & salt.

...Most people in the UK will be within 5 miles or so of a McDonalds restaurant and within 5 miles of my house we actually have 3! Two of the three have had a make-over now and have the new McDonalds look of funky chairs and big tables whilst the other one still has the old McDonalds look of old diner style seating and little padded booths to sit in. Generally the three McDonalds in question are all the same. The prices of the products are the same everywhere because they are a franchise and you can get burgers, salads, chips, fruit, drinks, milkshakes, donuts, chicken sandwiches and vegetarian options. I normally have either a quarter pounder meal or a fillet-o-fish meal as if you request a fillet they generally have to cook one fresh as they aren't so popular so they can't just mass produce and wait for an order to roll in, also...

McDonald Junkie Around the World

Advantages: Full meal at reasonable price
Disadvantages: Full of calories and cholesterol

...of new burgers makes me wonder if their customer base is being eroded by other more healthy options such as pret-a-manger more quickly than perceived. There are pasta salads, toasted sandwiches as well as mini donuts by Cadbury. By far, I have enjoyed the new taste, especially the toasted Ham and cheese melt and chicken salsa flatbread. Both, very nice and very different to the usual McDonald's burgers. Furthermore, they have also introduced discounts to students carrying the Virgin student Vcard as well as coming up with the McDonald advantage card (MAC). With the MAC, discounts are provided for the family in the form of discounted DVDs, cinema tickets for the children as well as free dessert with the purchase of a happy meal. No doubt, it is another marketing ploy to entice the family to dine at McDonald's. The success of this will still...
