...If you have the money to spare and are looking for a car that has Looks - Style - Comfort - Reliability and a real name that's had a good following over the years, I would highly recommend the Land rover Discovery. The biggest asset at the moment is that the price throughout the range has been reduced dramatically due to the recent changes in importation and dealership, and if you shop around you really can pick up an excellent deal, Even Secondhand. With the TD5 ( Turbo Diesel ), you get real quality even with the earlier models. The only drawback with the earlier ones is that the ride tends to be a bit bumpy, but having said that the early models are more economical to run in general averaging 30 - 35 MPG. The more recent models ( I.E 1997 Onward ) usually run at around 25 - 30 MPG, But obviously they are much more luxurious...

Doncaster's Minster Church

Advantages: Free to visit, lots of history
Disadvantages: Limited opening hours

...Originally called the Parish Church of St George and now officially reclassified as a Minster, Doncaster Minster has the outward appearance of a Cathedral and dominates the centre of Doncaster town. This is a landmark that I have been familiar with all of my life but I was actually surprised to learn that this current church dates only from 1854. It does however stand on a spot that has been occupied by a church since the 7th century and it is known that a church dedicated to St George has stood here since at least 1061. A fire destroyed this particular Norman church in 1204 but some of its stones were used to rebuild a new, more elaborate church. A Land Rover with the manners of an executive car.

Advantages: Exceptional towing vehicle, comfortable & reliable

...I have owned many large, spacious and comfortable vehicles; both 4x4s and cars (Mitsibishi Shoguns, Mercedes...). However, now on my second Discovery (a '52 Reg' TD5 GS) I can safely say that the Land Rover has blitzed the others. It offers a unique blend of ruggedness and comfort without sacrificing luxury. When I bought my first Discovery, again a TD5 back in 2000, friends of mine were sceptical of my choice of Diesel over the V8 petrol. However, when they experienced the smoothness and adequacy of the Turbocharged 5-cylinder unit they quickly congratulated me on my choice. Also in terms of MPG the TD5 offers around 25-30 compared to the horrific consumption of the V8. Land Rover TD4

Advantages: Powerful engine, it makes you feel safe
Disadvantages: sounds like a tractor

...could "skip" gears and the car would still pull you up to speed without any trouble. The ride I found to be a very smooth one, with only the odd bump disturbing the gentle ride. **Looks** The outside of the car I think looked great, with its big wheels and its high cab. The car has a rustic "get up and go" look but sum how it still has a sporty ness about it. The interior had a modern stylish look and feel to it. The colours that my grand parents decided to have (Cream with green) complemented the car and just set it apart from any other Land rover I have ever been in. I am disappointed to say however that this is all let down by the poor quality of materials used in the car. After only 2 1/2 years the paint on the grill covering the speakers started to rust and the paint fell of leaving a horrible mess. The chrome...

Baby Range Rover

Advantages: quite economcial, very comfortable, loaded with equipment

...This is the first 4x4 I have owned. The other cars on my drive are Japanese import sports cars which are low and very very fast. This is to some extent the complete opposite but is a wonderful experience. Our car was delivered in shining black with a black leather interior with .4 of a mile on the clock. Looks The car looks bigger than it actually is. It has a strong resemblance to its Range Rover big brother. It is lengthwise about the same size as the car it replaces for us, a Peugeot 407. But its height and rugged looks make it look a far bigger proposition though. The car has some tasteful silver coloured vents and trim which break up the all black look along with some tasty 19" alloys. Interior The interior is superb. Who wouldn't you want a Land Rover Discovery?

Advantages: Good driving position, reliability, capacity
Disadvantages: MPG, rust, gearbox

...I recently bought a 1990 (G) 2.5TDI Land Rover Discovery and have been really impressed with the overall package so far. First of all the driving position is fantastic, you cannot get any better than being up high and being able to see everywhere, the 360 degree visiblity is also very good. The only part that is difficult is getting used to how they steer, the linkages are different to most cars so you can't make frequent, tiny adjustments or you can get a small wobble on. However drive one for an hour and you will master this. Don't go on a motorway straight away like me and then learn there! My Disco has done 140, 000 miles, the inside of the car isn't fantastic but it is still clean and once I'd polished it up it looks suprisingly good. The outside has minor marks such as paint bubbles on the rear arches but this is...

...The Earl of Doncaster hotel was built in the 1920's and retains alot of the character from this period. They cater for weddings, christenings etc with a range of function rooms varying in size depending on your party. The restaurant is light, bright and airy and still retains the 20's charm. Rooms Generally good sizes with usual facilities. Nothing out of the ordinary with regards bathrooms, extras ect. Average price around £67 per room b&b. Bar Good selection of spirits, wines - reasonable prices for a hotel. Restaurant Has got better over the past few years. Menu has been better designed and food appears to be back to the quality it was 5-6 years ago. Special nights are organised and the Valantine's one is particually good. Pianist is good when he's playing. Overall Good hotel with average facilities. Worth trying...

...The Land Rover Freelander is one of Land Rovers most popular cars of the last few years, and its understandable for my experiences. It?s a 2005 ?55? plate facelifted Freelander. In black, which is without doubt one of the best colours- along with silver. My dad owned the TD4 Adventurer, but I drove it everywhere. It has a 1951CC Diesel Engine, which was virtually the same as you get in the 2.0D BMWs. Its an excellent engine, it pulls well upto 70mph and beyond where its safe to do so and has plenty of torque, it also makes a nice fruity sound and is without doubt (having test drove the other engines on offer) the best engine available for the freelander. ...My Land Rover Discovery 2.5 TD5 GS is the 5-seat model, first registered in December 1999. It was bought in June 2000 for £20,000, having cost approximately £27,500 new. It had nearly 5000 miles on the clock. Bodywork was and is immaculate and the previous owner (a rural chemist) buys a new one quite frequently (every 6 months!). This car had also had lamp protectors and fog lamps fitted over the standard spec, with floor mats and mudflaps also fitted. The point at which bought it was just after the start of the drop in new and used prices and appeared to be priced to keep cash flow going as it has only depreciated by £2000 over 1 year.
