Donkey Swings onto your GBC
Review of Donkey Kong (GB) by
Ice_Blaster
Advantages: Challange
Disadvantages: small screen, makes it hard to see
...Donkey Kong Country is certainly one game not to be missed on the Game Boy Color. Nintendo fans have got a second chance to get what some could argue to be one of the greatest games ever, on their Game Boys!
For those who don't know, this game is the first in the series of side-scrolling platformers that lets you control Donkey Kong. Ok, there was the Donkey Kong Land series, but those were based on the SNES games and were made without the knowledge that the SNES version of Donkey Kong Country was going to be ported to Game Boy Color.
In this game, you control both Donkey Kong and his sidekick Diddy Kong in donkey Kongs first quest. The main aim of the game is to defeat the Kremlins which are lizard-like monsters who have stolen your stash of Bananas. To do this you have to use the basic "Mario" system of running, jumping and landing...

Monkeying Around In 64Bit
Review of Donkey Kong (N64) by
mastersupersaiyan
Advantages: MASSIVE Gametime
Disadvantages: A Little Too Massive
...If you go monkeys for monkeys, then this is definitely the game for you. Donkey Kong’s back with new family members, who each have their own unique abilities. The Donkey Kong game on the Snes was revolutionary in the fact that Rare had used to 3D modelling to create amazing characters who looked like they should be on a 32-bit computer. The game was a sell-out. Now comes the 4th game in the series, Donkey Kong 64. Will this be just as revolutionary?
First off are the new characters. There’s now Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Tiny Kong, Chunky Kong and Lanky Kong. Each of them has their own special ability as I mentioned earlier on. Donkey Kong is basically the ‘average’ of the lot. Diddy Kong is just a smaller version of Donkey Kong. Tiny Kong is the tiniest of the bunch, which enables her to creep through small...

Quite a challenge
Review of Donkey Kong (N64) by
bjlangley
Advantages: Great fun to play. Challenging
Disadvantages: Flying through rings with Diddy is too hard!
...I received this game as a Christmas present from my wife, and we both think that it's awesome! Since Xmas many evenings have been spent guiding this strange collection of monkeys past various baddies, and solving puzzles. After 1 month we've both comitted around 25 hours to it, and there's still quite a bit of the game left to play!
The story to the game is nothing special. King K Rool has kidnapped Donkey Kong's buddies, and stolen his gold bananas. So you take on the part of Donkey Kong and try to find your bananas. Once you've freed the other Kongs, you can also play the game as each of them. There's Diddy Kong, Tiny Kong, Lanky Kong and Strong Kong. Using their different abilities you'll be able to reach different areas to collect the gold bananas.
The game is played over 8 levels, with each level hiding 25 gold bananas, 500...

A Donkey (Kong) Of A Decision
Review of NES Classics: Donkey Kong by
scream4bruce
Advantages: Donkey Kong is a good game
Disadvantages: Missing a stage, not too hard to loop
...Donkey Kong is an arcade game where, as Mario, you negotiate platforms whilst dodging obstacles to save the damsel-in-distress Pauline. I guess it's not Super Mario, since, should he fall from a great height then he loses a life (actually, he's known as Jumpman here).
The NES version is not arcade perfect - it was missing one of the four stages (the cement factory level), but that's perhaps forgiveable given the console's limitations then. This NES version can actually be found in Animal Crossing for the GameCube, yet the N64 game Donkey Kong 64 features what must be a pretty accurate port of the arcade game. Then there's the Donkey Kong title for the old Game Boy, which, whilst not intended to come close to the real thing, offered a great deal beyond four stages. But for Nintendo to release the NES version for the GBA (and the Wii...

Donkey Land 2 pretty fun game for Gameboy
Review of Donkey Kong Land 2 (GB) by
Gamedude
Advantages: Graphics, special tricks, music
Disadvantages: None
...Donkey Land 2 is a pretty fun game based on Donkey Kong series and also based on Donkey Kong Country series.
Story:
Diddy Kong, I believe the son of Donkey Kong has to rescue his dad from the clutches of an evil monster named Captain K Rool. He must face his hoods to get to him. The first couple of cool stages begin onboard a pirate ship and take
place on land and below the sea.
Graphics ***
Not too shabby, I have to admit pretty good graphics for a Gameboy Color Game. Pretty good detail around from Diddy himself to the pirate ship levels you have to escape him. The monsters in the game which include one legged aligators, bats are all drawn up pretty well. I was pretty satisfied in terms of graphics.
I am trying not to give too much away, but the underwaters levels and pirate ship levels are just an example of how the graphics...

DK fanchise runs out of steam
Review of Donkey Kong (N64) by
cecchi
Advantages: Looks good, good music, BIG game
Disadvantages: poor gameplay, lack of originality
...After Rare's innovative, original, funny and VERY playable series of Donkey Kong Country on the SNES it is a great disappointment to have such an unoriginal, repetitive and sometimes boring game representing the great ape on the N64.
Taking the concept of the 2D platformer and moving it into 3D like "Mario 64" Rare have created a technically proficient but soulless game.
Start the game with Donkey Kong and pick up 4 other family members along the way - each one has special skills suited to certain areas/problems.
The problem is we've seen it all before - the impact of a REAL interactive 3D world is now not so breath-taking as when Nintendo unleashed "Super Mario 64" on us in 1996, the various worlds we visit hark back to those seen in Donkey Kong Country on the SNES, the control method is not as intuitive as "Mario 64" or say "Shadow Man...

Donkey Kong Land
Review of Donkey Kong Land (GB) by
Indie_Star
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...This cartridge. This little yellow cartridge has given me hours and hours of pleasure. Hours and hours of time were spent pressing buttons on my Game Boy to defeat each level. To kill Kremlins. To ride rhinos, ostriches and frogs.
I helped Donkey Kong through the jungle. Over snowy mountains. Through dark caves and pyramids. I even helped him swim under water. And for what? So I could sit here 11 years later and say "Oh yes. I love that game. Pity I still haven't finished it". The fact is though, I don't care that 11 years have gone by since I received it along with my first Game Boy for my 7th birthday and still haven't finished it. I don't care that on eBay it's only worth around $5.50AU. This game has immense sentimental value to me. It represents my childhood. It is the first video game I ever received and I'm proud to say that I...

Adventure of the kongs
Review of Donkey Kong 64 (N 64) by
vinodgm
Advantages: Amazing Graphics, Great Gameplay, Excellent Multiplayer
Disadvantages: None
...Rareware have produced an incredible amount of really good games in the past and Donkey Kong 64 is definitely the best of the lot. This game is very close to what is known as the PERFECT game; amazing graphics; remarkable gameplay; cool kongs; great sound; and the best multiplayer mode ever.
Unlike all DK games in the past, this game is quite different.
King K. Rool has stolen all the golden bananas and captured all the kongs, except Donkey Kong, from DK Isles and is planning to blow up the island. Fortunately the machine fails. Will Donkey Kong be able to free his buddies and save DK Isles…………. Well that’s in your hands.
