Dungeons and Dragons
Review of Diablo (PC) by KingHerrod

Advantages: True to D&D
Disadvantages: Repetitive, dated

...This is a good game, absorbing and interesting to play. Ok it is dated and the graphic shows this, but a good game always remains playable. The idea is dungeons and dragon, warrior, wizard, or rogue are the characters you can choose from. There are many quests and plenty of wepaons and spells to find. Yes as in dungeons and dragons your man goes up levels with experience and there is gold bounty to be collected. The game is addictive and well though out, although a little repetitive. But for £9 it is a bargain.... Read review

Dragon Court
Review of Dragon Court (PC) by fattbob

Advantages: Free game
Disadvantages: Limited tasks, so playing time is limited

...I stumbled on Dragon Court about a month ago. I thought I'd give it a try, and I have been on it every day since! It is a free, Java based role playing game, where you are the lead character. You have quests to complete each day, to improve your skill, guts, wits and most importantly, your Social Rank. This starts at peasant and goes as far as refent. I am currently a viscount. The higher your level, the more quests you get. After your quests have been used for a day, you have to wait until the next day to play again. Built into the game, is a Clan system. You can join Clans to help you with money, weapons etc. As there are many Clan members, you get to know other players and get advice on what certain items do. I suggest the Damage Inc. clan, as I am a member of it! This game is the most addictive I have played, so I suggest all you... Read review

Hobbit Holes forever
Review of The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien by Telute

Advantages: One of the best books around
Disadvantages: Predictable

...The hobbit is a great book. All to often it is potrayed as a kiddies book, merely a precursor to the epic Lord of the Rings. Instead the hobbit is in its own right, one of the best fantasy novels written. The plot is a basic quest to claim back some dwarfs gold from a dangerous dragon. On the way the hobbit, Bilbo, and his dwarf companions face allsorts of hazards from orcs to war. The simply nature of the plot belies its involving nature. Bilbo is a reluctant hero and his transformation from incompetent theif to expert adventurer is compelling. His riddle contest with Gollum creates a superd feeling of tension and the descriptions of Smaug the dragon are some of the best pieces of writing around. The hobbit is a great book, well worth a read. It is not to long and the language although dated is still compelling. Its major... Read review

Dungeons and Dragon 80's Cartoon Classic.
Review of Dungeons And Dragons - Complete (Animated) (Box Set) by drow22

Advantages: A full series of DVD's so you can watch the whole lot. Nice sturdy box in which they come in
Disadvantages: None

...called uni. The evil in the realm is Venger who is constantly trying to capture there weapons and prevent them from returning home. He rides a black flying horse, and the only being he is scared of is a three headed dragon. Through there quests to return home they meet others who live in the realm, such as the cloud bears and many more. The action is thick and fast and the animation is good especially considering the age. It is a timeless story of good and evil, fun and enjoyable to watch. It could be a little scary for the younger children as Venger is a scary character,as are the dragons that appear in it. Well worth watching.... Read review

Not up to the class of its predecessors...
Review of The White Dragon - Anne McCaffrey by CaptainDisaster

Advantages: Great descriptive prose as always...
Disadvantages: ... but characterisation and plot development lacking substance.

...Overview --------------- Centuries ago, humans colonised a planet called Pern. In these centuries genetically-engineered creatures called Dragons (due to their similarity to the mythical creatures of earth) were developed to combat an unthinking but deadly enemy called Thread, which fell towards Pern from a nearby planet termed the "Red Star" every 200 years or so. Another plan involving genetically engineered grubs was hatched but this fell out of memory, as did the origins of human life on the planet. This is the third chronicle of Pern. In the first (DragonFlight), Weyrleader F'Lar and his partner Lessa had to resort to bringing Dragonriders forward in time to save Pern from the Threadfall. In the second (DragonQuest), the Oldtimers (those brought forward in time) are not too happy with the changes in Pern since their time... Read review

A Classic Read
Review of The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien by Demon3311

Advantages: Suitable For All Ages
Disadvantages: Arent Any!!

...The Hobbit by J R Toklien is a classic, that leads off to Lord Of The Rings, another classic. The best thing about this book is that it is suitable to children and adults, it has beliefs of another world and species which would encapture children, and aswell as that, the text is suitable for all. If you enjoy reading this then I suggest you start to read the lord of the rings, as it is the sequel, The story of the hobbit is all about Bilbo Baggins and his journey with gandalf the wizard an his dwarf friends, and they try to find the treasure guarded by the dragon, during their quest they find a ring, which we hear no more about until the sequel.... Easy fun for all ages
Review of Spyro the Dragon (PSX) by sk8rman

Advantages: lots to do
Disadvantages: none

...That butt ugly Gnasty Gnorc guy has turned all the dragons to crystal. But he mist Spyro the smallest of the dragons but the one with the most attitude. It now looks like It all up to you as you take Spyro on the advancer to save the 5 dragon worlds and Gnorcs world from Gnasty Gnorc and his monster type things that Gnorc has made to stop you on your quest to find treasure, eggs, save dragons and kill Gnasty Gnorc. On your way throw the 6 worlds you will see lots of different types of enemies that come in large or small. Large enemies can only be flamed unless it’s in the ice world where you have to push them of cliffs. Small enemies can be flamed or charged. Enemies that were armour must be charged or wait until they turn round. Don’t worry about spyro to much because his best friend Sparx the dragonfly is there to protect... Read review

Time To Get Some Exorcise!
Review of Dragon Quest V (SNES) by tom1clare

Advantages: Vast adventure, ambitious storyline, nice sense of humour, several well-conceived ideas, decent visuals and sountrack
Disadvantages: Occasionally slow-going, menu screens often create work for the player, no save points in dungeons

...During the late eighties and throughout the nineties, a gaming rivalry raged in Japan. It divided a nation, became the topic of many a debate, and yet there wasn't a blue hedgehog or a fat plumber in sight. What rivalry do I speak of? The battle of the role-playing games - Dragon Quest versus Final Fantasy. The latter of the two franchises is now little short of a global phenomenon - when Squaresoft released Final Fantasy VII upon an unsuspecting world, they couldn't have imagined the 15,000,000+ sales the game would clock up. The rest, as they say, is history. Refusing to budge from established Japanese and American territories has ultimately cost the Dragon Quest series (developed by Enix) the worldwide recognition it deserves, and is therefore almost completely unheard of over here. This doesn't mean it hasn't had its own success... Read review

A Dragon with a Scottish Accent
Review of Dragonheart DVD by Simoncook1

Advantages: Fun movie that will appeal to families
Disadvantages: Plot a little weak at times

...rushes out to obtain the crown. In doing so he is mortally wounded through the heart; the queen, hoping that the young Prince will change the ways of the land, asks a Dragon to help her son. Draco gives the Prince half of his heart thus inexorably linking the prince to himself, and essentially giving the Prince immortal life (until the dragon dies). When the prince becomes a worse tyrant than his father, Bowen becomes disillusioned. Blaming the dragon for the corruption of the Prince, Bowen vows to destroy all dragons. As his quest unfolds, he finally meets up with Draco - Draco now is the last dragon. After a tumultuous battle that ends in stalemate, the two decide on a compromise which will profit them both - i.e. Bowen will profit in Gold, Draco will remain alive. The two decide to 'con' villages by Bowen saving them from viscous dragon... Read review

A Quest in Fantasy
Review of Hero Quest by Timski

Advantages: Fun for all fans of the genre
Disadvantages: best with 4 or 5 players

...I have been into fantasy & Dungeons and Dragons since I can remember. Always read the books, watched the films and played the computer games of that genre. When I saw the board game "Hero Quest" in my local Toys'R'Us I was like a child with a new toy, rushing all the way home. I read the back of the box and it sounded like the type of game which both intrigued and entertained, but not for too long. Those who have played Dungeons and Dragons Role Playing Games are aware that a game can last for several weeks or even months, however, Hero Quest usually lasts approximately 2 - 3 hours. If you have ever played a computer version of Hero Quest (I had a copy for my Amiga years ago), the board game is very similar in that the four characters are the same, namely a Barbarian, an Elf, a Wizard and a Dwarf. Each of the characters take turns... Read review
