Beverly is played by Drew Barrymore who I feel plays this part impeccably, the way she portrays Beverly's determination and drive helps us to believe as a viewer that we all can achieve our goals if we really strive for them. This film really touched my heart strings as it showed that once you put your mind to anything you can achieve it and I really enjoyed the way it was shown over a twenty year period rather than rushing the story, Penny Marshall took the time to show most of the aspects of Beverly growing up with her young son. The film was made in 2001 and as I said before was directed by Penny Marshall and produced by Morgan Ward. The running time is 132 minutes and it is a PG certificate. There are no extras to this DVD as I am reviewing the DVD only. I purchased this film from Music Zone for the bargain...

Riding with Drew Barrymore

Advantages: The story itself
Disadvantages: Adam Garcia's somewhat wooden performance

...the book that Beverly has written. This film has all the makings of a romantic comedy gone wrong, but the powerhouse performances are enough to take it up to another level. The fact that its based on a true story is neither here nor there, as it is a tale that is often whimsical, sometimes funny, and mostly heartbreaking. Drew Barrymore proves her acting chops here as Beverly, shifting with ease between vulnerable and gutsy, and she is completely believable in every era - given that her character ranges between 14 and 35. Steve Zahn is instantly loveable as the good for nothing Ray, who is full of promises but no wherewithall to see it through. James Woods is wonderful, but underused, as Beverly's disapproving policeman father. But perhaps the best lines go to Brittany Murphy, who is completely believable as the equally downtrodden...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead

We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. Damn! This Drew Really Looks Good In Bellbottoms!

Advantages: Nostalgic for those that remember the series from the 70s
Disadvantages: Some will not find the dated references

...the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew are never appear together in the first season; when the series was originally aired, they each would get an individual episode every other week. In other words, the Hardy Boys had their mystery the first week, and Nancy would get her own adventure the next week, and so on. The way the episodes open, they insist on listing all three actors, despite the fact you wouldn?t find out until a narrator would say something like ?Tonight, Nancy Drew will solve the mystery of (fill in the blank)!? All of the episodes are 48-50 minutes is length, and usually the commercial break would come after a cliffhanger or vital clue, as the books have when they end a chapter. Even though the DVD set is split into two DVDs, one for the Nancy Drew episodes and the others for the Hardy Boys, I will be listing the episodes chronologically...

...having watched this scotsman for my own eyes , drew can actually play well and could cause a major upset one day --he just needs to pull together and prove it to everyone out there. drew plays at my local snooker club (churchills snooker club,glasgow)and is just as good a player as anyone out on the circuit. he has good break building skills and potting talents to go with it. although he is playing well not many people would be able to tell you much about him ---well he should realy let his snooker do the talking as he has the potential o do very well against the big players. ha has won some big games but has yet to establish himself as one of the big guns ---but he is closing in on the top ranking players by working well at the start of tournaments. i have been know to bet money on him at the early tages of each tourament...
