Wester Digital External Hard Drive 80GB USB 2.0
Advantages: Portable, easy to use, never failed on me yet!
Disadvantages: Perhaps only the disc size, but it has taken me 2 years to fill it!
...Wester Digital, a respected brand name, and i agree!
I have owned the unit now for around 2 years, and have 0 problems. My internal hard drive has died on me twice but my external one, never!
This 80gb HDD is perfect for storing large files, home movies, photo albums, music etc. It's ideal when transfering data from one place to another, simply unplug it, plug it in elsehwre and hey presto!
It supports drag & drop so moving files couldn't be easier.
Standard power adpater with 3-pin plug, and USB 2.0 connection to your pc, mac, server etc.
It is easily recognised by each operating system and i have yet to find one that doesn't support the unit. Plug it in, wait around 30secs and it's up and running.
Can be stored horizontally, and if you have 3 like me, you can stack them perfectly, or store them vertically...

Viking USB 2.0 Flash Drive 1GB
Advantages: Small, High Capacity, Quick Transfer Rate
Disadvantages: None As Yet
...I bought this pen drive when I came across a website that I found on google by accident. They were selling it in their sale for £14.99. So I though that I would give it a try.
It cam in the post, and I opened the bag that it came in, and I was shocked by the size of the pen. It was the smallest pen that I had ever seen. I was worried at first because it is so small that it would be easy to lose it, and I thought that I would very quickly. Although there is a hole at the end where you can put a clip through so you can attach it to something, i.e. around you neck, on a key ring, etc.
It has a lid to keep the USB connection clean and so that it can not be broken. Once it has been taken off, you can plug it straight into the USB port on you computer. It works at its best via the USB 2.0 port. This allows high speeds of data transfer...

Fast, neat, reliable; everything you would need in a pen drive
Advantages: LED light for when in use, large memory, no cap
Disadvantages: looks a bit worn after a while, no cap could be disadvantage
...There seems to be an influx of reviews on ciao at the moment of netbooks, but also pen drives and I thought how difficult it must be to write a meaningful, in-depth review of something that most people possess, rely on but ultimately have the same problems ? its so bloody small that you undoubtedly going to misplace it or leave it in a computer somewhere. Then I thought, I have quite a good pen drive and use it as part of my job as a teacher like its part of me; it contains years worth of resources and materials that I simply cannot live without.
Key features
So the ?Verbatim Store 'n' Go 4GB Retractable USB Flash Drive?, or ?pen drive? as I like to call it has the impressive sounding Interface Transfer Speed: 480Mbps, Read Speed: Up to11MB / sec, Write Speed: Up to 8MB / sec as well as a 2 Year Limited Warranty. Ok, so we get...

Freecome DVD RW Recorder USB 2.0
Advantages: ummmmm
Disadvantages: Doesn't work very well, slow, intermitently recognises disks, poor back up service, need I go on?
...I ordered my Freecom DVD Recorder LS USB 2.0 after my CD/DVD drive packed up on my 15 month old HP Desktop. I wanted it mainly to load CD ROM and burn DVD's from movies already converted to DVD format on my hard drive. Being that my PC had no disk drive I relied upon this external drive to load the bundled DVD burning software (Roxio 9). This took several days and many attempts. Then I tried burning my first DVD. After taking 3 hours to do a task that previously took about 30 minutes, this recorder produced a disc that no dvd player in my home recognised (and I have 4). I found the user interface very unfriendly and it simply didn't work. Needles to say, I'll be getting a refund!...

Always Handy. TwinMos USB2.0 Mobile Disc IV 512mb
Advantages: Spare-Caps, Reliable, Cheap
Disadvantages: Basic, NOthing Special, 512mb
...The Mobile Disk IV is your basic 512mb USB2.0 Drive. The 'Hi-speed' appears no faster than any other 512mb USB drive, and believe me, I have more than a few. The main competitive advantage of the 'Twinmos' is that it was supplied with spare end caps, not an obvious problem, yet I'm positive anyone who has used similar items on a regular basis, can surely relate to; However if the problem's clearly there, instead of the cost of manufacturing spare caps, would a better investment not be to equip the usb stick with a swivel, or essentially non-looseable lid.
The outer casing feels sturdy enough for day-to-day life and the stick has a robust feel, like it'll last any coat pocket or briefcase journeys. The device is not too big, nor really small, just your average size USB. presented in a smart purple color, it features a useful hole...

Amacom all the people, living for today

Storage facility - 1GB

Amacom all the people, living for today - - - John Lennon

Imagine not having the world, wide web; the www, or not being able to access your digital data onto digital media devices, or even to store it all in one folder onto a USB connective flash drive. It's hard to imagine isn't it. It isn't too long ago that these small devices weren't available for mass market. = Since they have been available the storage companies have let off a vast amount of storage facility products that have consumed the storage market, like a plague of locusts on a field of wheat.
I've reviewed quite a few digital data products, yet I've not even touched the service, when it comes to the number of sub-companies that are employed to develop USB 2.0...

Verbatim Store 'n' Go 2Gb U3 Smart Drive
Advantages: Capacity, speed, looks good, nice blue LED, U3 feature
Disadvantages: cap could be tighter, not Vista friendly until you update it.
...My current USB drive is old & slow and packs a humungous 128Mb so I figured it was time to upgrade. I decided to look at this Verbatim because the price premium was small over a no-name equivalent with the 2Gb version clocking in at just £14.99.
The device comes in a nice looking display package which contains the USB stick itself plus a good quality black lanyard for hanging it around your neck, assuming you like wearing USB sticks.
The package is the sort that usually results in blood loss when you crack it open so use scissors and take your time. If there is an established technique for getting in to these tough plastic bubble packs, I'm not aware of it!
In the flesh it's a nice looking thing in matt silver with chrome edging. The cap is fairly tight, unlike many and can be fitted to the opposite end when in use so you don...

Total Recall in a Flash
Advantages: Easy and handy to use
Disadvantages: Easy to lose
...it around the house.
I find the 4 GB Amacom USB 2.0 most useful for storing folders stuffed with word documents that need transporting between devices. For example, whenever I finish writing my Ciao reviews on my laptop in my local Café Nero I copy them onto my Amacom and then at a later date upload the files to my home computer. This Amacom 4 GB flash key is so easy to use, just plug it in to your USB port and it will go into automatic set up - there is no need for any cables or adapters. You can also use such devices as a simple means to share presentations, digital photos, video and MP3s with colleagues and friends or to carry files between work and home. I steer clear of using flash keys for long term storage because as I always advise, long term back-up data should be stored on CDs or external hard drives.
I was surprised to see...

Looks good with its flashing LED
Advantages: Reliable
Disadvantages: Might lose its head
...Due to changes in the way we operate our computers at work it was deemed necessary to supply us with Memory sticks. I was not involved with the choice, myself along with my colleagues were all supplied with these Integral USB 2.0 splash drives with a 512MB capacity. That is over 60 of the little beasties.
For those who do not know what a memory stick is, let me explain. All media (word processors, pictures, videos, presentations etc) can be stored electronically; normally you will save media to the internal hard drive of your computer.
If you want to move media from one computer to another you can email it (provided both computers have internet access), if both computers share an intranet connection (server, once only found in offices these are now more common in homes with broadband and routers) then the media can be shared...

Easy Access USB 2.0 Front Panel
Advantages: EASY ACCESS TO USB PORTS
Disadvantages: INITIAL SETUP FOR NON-PC PEOPLE
...the world to install, but far from the hardest too. You will need a little PC knowledge but not much. Basically what you do is open the pc up and fit the plate to the front of the PC (either to a 3.5 or 5.5 inch drive bay, adapter is included for larger drive bay), then you run a lead to the back plate which has a notch for the lead to go through (also included) then you plug the lead into your current USB port on the back of your PC and job done. (NB. Should you plug the lead to a USB 1.0 port on the back of the PC everything can only then run at up to USB 1.0 speed not USB 2.0 speed. For that you will need a current USB 2.0 port on the back of the PC).
EASE OF USE
Once installed this is the great part. I mean USB was sold on its plug and play nature, you don?t have to reboot your machine to plug in a new device. However you always...
