Review of Pearl Forum Drumkit by
mountainbikeboy
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...The Pearl Forum Drum kit is one of the best kits i have ever played on. It is a very good Drumkit for intermediares but it is still good for all levels. I really like this drum kit so iwould reccomend it to anyone who is at any level if you are going to spend around 600 pounds. The nice thing about this kit is that the skins are very ajustable and if you do ajust them they dont suddenlly sound really weiord. I would reccomend it to any one so go out and buy it....

V-Series
Review of Mapex Venus Plus Drumkit by
Arbobug
Advantages: Great sound, very nice looking
Disadvantages: Can be a little too quiet for recording or live gig purposes.
...I've had my Mapex V Series drumkit for abou three years now and I'm still very happy with it! I heard the actual kit is designed to be more of a fusion kit that can't really be relied on for playing live gigs but I've played many a gig with it and it's one of my favourite kits to use.
Appearance
-----------------
The Mapex Venus drumkit comes in a wide range of colours. Mine is Midnight Blue, which suits the drumkit very well. It's a very shiny looking kit and when it's new you can see the lighting in the room shimmer all over the body.
One downfall however, is that the body doesn't really come painted, it's more of a sort of undercoat, which means yes it's scratched far more easily.
It is easy to look after though. The kit doesn't come with any bags, but I bought some Big Dog bags for the drums and they won't get scratched...

Let's make some noise
Review of Thunder Drum Kits by
jammez
Advantages: Durable
Disadvantages:
...I received a white Thunder drumkit for my christmas in 1995 and it's falling to bits! (Probably because of the extreme use and regular transportation - I play in a band with no regular practise place) The drums themselves give an excellent sound quality with skins on either side and when used in line with premier accessories (premier's drums are crap, but their accessories are good) gives an extremely robust drum kit with long-lasting durability (if it's to be transported around!) A good size, not too bulky and the girls always go for the drummer!!!...

Pathetic - Not interested in the customer
Review of Footes by
willkeen
Advantages: None really, It's just a shop.
Disadvantages: Uninterested staff.
...I went into Footes in london to check out their drum equipment, having seen an ad in Rhythm Magazine. I went in and looked around for 10-15 minutes, during which time not a single person inquired as to whether I may need help, or even said hello. In the end, I sat down at their demo electric drum-kit and spent 25-30 minutes playing on it while my mum watched. The staff at the counter must have seen that we were clearly interested in the product, but during that time, not a single person paid us any attention. In the end, we decided that we wanted to buy an electric kit - but thanks to the behaviour of the staff, Footes have missed out on over £2000 worth of business....
Don't shop at Footes!...

Excellent quality from a top make at a good price.
Review of Pearl Forum Drumkit by
calumc
Advantages: Price, Quality, Looks.
Disadvantages: In some parts - Quality
...- this is to be expected, as they are made using the same techniques as all of Pearl's drums, including the rediculously expensive masterworks custom-made ones that cost from around a grand per drum upwards. Hardware (stands etc) is resonable, and has so far managed to withstand everything I've thrown at it over the past four years. Mine, being an older model, came with only single-braced hardware, but I see that the newer models now come with a sturdier double-braced set (ie each 'leg' on stands etc is now 2 pieces of metal instead of one reducing flex).
Sound quality is far above that of any other 'entry-level' drumkit on the market. As with any kit, it depends much on what heads are used, but put on a decent set and it'll sound just as good as something costing twice the price.
'Ready set go' packages, complete with cymbals, sticks, a stool etc make...
