Enrty level drysuit
Advantages: cheap price, good seals and zipper, heavy duty boots
Disadvantages: wears quite quickly,
...Typhoon nexus drysuit
I bought my Typhoon nexus drysuit 6 years ago from new, and so far have used it on around110 dives in the UK in a wide variety of conditions from fresh water lakes in winter to off shore boat dives in the summer.
It comes in at the entry level price range for a membrain suit made from nylon trilaminate it is not that hard wearing compared to the more expensive suits and it will start to wear on the high friction parts such as inside leg and knee areas but this is easily fixed with a 2 pac adhesive such as Aquabond by Beaver.
The suit is rear entry via a large zip across the shoulders and must say that it has never proved to be a problem in fact it runs more easily then my other more expensive drysuits. It has a dump valve at the wrist which is simply raised above your head to expell unwanted air. The wrist...

A Rolls Royce of a drysuit
Advantages: Quality, telescoping trunk, rock boots
Disadvantages: Price
...INTRODUCTION
When I began diving, I was told that the greatest and most important asset of the cold-water diver was thermal protection. Any lack of this was to be forever cold, wet and miserable. It stands to reason - the UK's waters (inland and offshore) can be bitterly cold and the diving that is to be had is quite variable, with many dives only accessible after some time on a hardboat or RIB. Because of these things your thermal protection's got to be spot-on.
A LEARNING CURVE
I bought drysuits for Sar and me, as we'd started diving together with a small club. I was pointed in the direction of a cottage industry which made drysuits to measure and, not knowing any better, coughed up the 300-odd sovs for each suit. The suits were ill-fitting and uncomfortable. They were quite iffy too, with both of ours having problems...

Vaseline how do you use yours?
Advantages: cheap and versatile
Disadvantages: erm can i get back to you?
...Vaseline Petroleum Jelly, street name Vaseline doesnt really sound all that appealing does it, but forget what you think of its name.
I couldnt live without it, its my lipbalm, my handy mousturiser for when i glance down and see my skin is getting dry. And i have dry skin permanently. And its my antirust agent for my dive knife, as well as being the best way to prevent the latex seals on my drysuit chaffing.
Ok my little tub of vaseline is the little 20g one but you can also get 100g and larger tubs, i have a larger one to live with my dive kit.
It looks slightly unappealing too, its kind of yellowish and greasy looking with no smell at least. Its texture in the tub is sort of gooey but rub it from you finger across your lips it feels smooth and well nice, not at all greasy. When its first applied it has a pleasant shine to it...

Do Just Use It on Your Baby, Try it Yourself
Advantages: Smells really nice, fresh and clean.
Disadvantages: None
...things it is slightly better value for money to buy the large pot which will only set you back about £2.50. The talc works really well so you only need a tiny bit. This means that the pot will last for ages so it makes it good value for money.
Any scuba divers will know that it is best to use talc on your drysuit seals so they last longer. This is another great use I have found for this product. It even leaves your suit smelling nice and fresh.
I recommend this talc to everyone, it is not only for babies!...

Open the Gates on cold water diving
Advantages: Never had any problems with produce at all
Disadvantages: Requires undersuit for insulation
...When I decided to get more serious about diving, and dive in Scotland regularly, and not just when I was doing a course, I decided it was time to invest in a drysuit.
So, after raking through magazines, and phoning up loads of shops for brochures, I decided I liked the look of the Gates drysuits.
Since getting my Gates drysuit, I have been very pleased with it. It is a membrane type suit, and as such definately requires an undersuit to be worn with it. This isn't a problem, as there is a plethora of undersuits from loads of manufactures, and finding one the suits is not a problem.
I didn't have to trim the neck or wrist seals on the suit prior to use, but I think I've jsut been lucky, as most people who get a drysuit have to either trim or stretch the neckseal prior to use.
The inflator valve is a swivel, and there is...

Loads of great diving
Advantages: Great viz, lovely scenery and loads of wrecks
Disadvantages: Cold and remote
...Shetland is situated to the far north of Scotland. Although only 70 miles long it has thousands of miles of coastline, due to the number of Voes (mini fyords) and smaller islands (over 100).
In general the tide is less than the rest of the UK and the waters can produce visibility of up to 30m in winter, dropping to 6-8m if the plankton is bad in summer.Temperatures vary from 4C to 12C, so a drysuit is advisable.
There are numerous scenic dives around Shetland, lots of seals to be seen, and a lot of wrecks. Diveable within 30 mins of Lerwick harbour are (Along with their maximum depths) The Glen Isla (45m), Gwladmena (39m), Valkyrie (50m), Samba (25m), Pionersk (22m), Lunokhod (5-45m), Queen of Sweden (15m) and numerous others, ranging from shallow to about 80m.
There are many other wrecks around Shetland including a WW1 E...

A natural answer
Advantages: Impressive speed, flexible, good performers
Disadvantages: Pricey, flimsy straps, poor feedback
...frank, I doubt there's much evident improvement. I much prefer the improvised bungee fix anyway.
The one thing I miss with these Twin Jets is the ability to "balance" on them, to stop any roll, in other words. There is little resistance on the fin when it moves through the water in comparison with other more solid fin designs. This may also affect your performance when trying to make headway against a stiff current. I have had no real problems. You might get used to this, you might not.
WILL I KEEP THEM?
Probably not in the long run. I am now considering changing them for Turtle Jetfins, as I prefer their heavier construction and more rigid blade. They would offer a nicer compromise with the lower fin-kick inertia and perhaps better "balance". I cannot find a pair of Scubapro's Jetfins to fit over my drysuit boot. These more rigid...

Barclaycard - no product protection
Advantages: None for the customer that I can see
Disadvantages: High interest charges and no protection against bad products
...I have had a Barclaycard Visa and a Mastercard for around 12 years and have always paid my bills promptly. I used my Barclaycards for almost all my purchases because I believed that in doing so it would offer me some form of protection against unscrupulous shop owners. Sadly, this is not the case.
For the first time, last year, I made a claim against the owner of Splashsports, a shop in Glasgow which sells diving equipment, because I had received bad advice from them which resulted in me paying £440, with my Visa card, for a dry-suit which didn't fit me. I asked Barclaycard to intervene because they claim that they will help sort these situations out for you. They sent me a claims pack and I filled it in and provided my receipts and explained what had happened. I wasn't complaining about the quality of the product I'd been sold. I...

Come dive with me.
Advantages: Very nice display. Batteries last ages. Case is blue.(Gotta be a plus!)
Disadvantages: Batteries not user changeable.
...I have dived on my Air X Nitrox for about five years now and still think that it is one of the best computers for beginner divers. The large screen displays are well laid out with the dive data on the upper screen and information on whatever you are breathing on a lower screen. This information is constantly updated from a radio transmitter mounted onto your first stage.
I found that this was a little bulky when first screwing it into the first stage but realised that I no longer required a pressure gauge hose because this information is relayed to me straight to the computer.
My dive kit, with a single cylinder now requires only a hose to my drysuit, one to my main DV and a hose to my BCD. The BCD 'controls' offer me an alternate air source, this lack of 'bulk' is brilliant when I am doing training dives because it keeps...

Bubbles in the Caribbean
Advantages: Warm seas, Amazing marine wildlife
Disadvantages: Yeah, right!
...of Montserrat is the warmth of the sea. I dive there in a swimsuit and t-shirt. It is so warm that a wetsuit is unnecessary and a dry-suit would be unthinkable! If you are down there for a long dive and don't move around much, you may feel the cold, but I have never had any problems as long as I have been moving.
I highly recommend a dive in Montserrat, should you get the opportunity to visit there. The sea is warm, the sea life beautiful and exquisite....
